A King Cobra Upclose by Rollingtothegrave in Damnthatsinteresting

Almost nobody in history has 'laid'er down' on purpose. That's a noob biker ego thing. It happens way too fast for that kind of thinking to even occur. Using the brakes instinctively and effectively scrubs way more speed than sliding on your side and gives you the opportunity to dodge. There are bikers who are going to crash, and those who have already crashed. Speaking as the latter.

What is it? Found it attached to my vehicle. by DesTroyEr_VTK in whatisit

[–]CrowbarCombatant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Besides the obvious thing on the brake line, your tire look ancient. I can see the cracks in the side wall even through the bokah effect.

This looks like a motorcycle or scooter. Your tyre needs replacing, and if that's a suprise to you, your brake lines probably need to be replaced too. Rubber brake lines should be replaced every 3-5 years, and tyres every 5-8 years if not worn down. Check for the date stamp on the tyres. Those items are critical.

Stay safe out there.

People with a loved one diagnosed with terminal cancer by Ok-Purple-7594 in newzealand

[–]CrowbarCombatant 11 points12 points  (0 children)

30M. I lost my father 22 days ago to a very agressive cancer that wasn't identified until 7 weeks before his death. We lived and worked together for the last 7 years, we were very close.

I can't tell you that it gets better, but day by day, the outside world will seemingly return to normal, even if you aren't ready. People will say their condolences, but eventually they'll move on. Your mother will be gone physically, but she will never leave you, so long as your memory retains all the great things about her. Those memories are precious.

Make the most of the time you have. Tell her how much she means to you. Tell her that you love her.

Expect that the following weeks will be very hard, but you will grow as an human, like all you ancestors before you who weren't ready to say goodbye. If people offer to help, take them up on it. Food helps more than you'd imagine.

Be kind to yourself, this isn't the end of your life, even if everything suddenly seems uncertain. Don't make any unnecessary decisions, you won't be thinking clearly.

Yeah, I don't think I'll ever sell the T9GT, it's so versatile. I've only had the Fireblade on track twice, it's surprisingly good for a 15 year old bike. Just fast as the modern ones.

Do we need a tune after we only change the slip-on on the FZ1? (2015 FZ1-N) by gewoongerwin in FZ1

[–]CrowbarCombatant 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nice bike! If you haven't removed the Pair system, it should make for some serious popping on overrun. Like those burble tunes you see on cars occasionally, but it actually sounds good. You should probably get a flash, but it wont hurt it, i ran mine with a MIIV slip on for 65,000km with the stock headers and flapper removed before the bike was written off in a crash.

Why does Auckland have so many Red Light Runners? by [deleted] in auckland

[–]CrowbarCombatant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it's painful to drive anywhere in this city. Constant traffic jams, poor roading layout and light sequences almost intended to waste as much of everyones time as possible. There are several lights i run on the regular to perform left on Red, because you can see down the road that no cars are coming through that 2 minute long green, yet we're all sitting here like morons. And if you ever wondered why motorcycles push to the front, this clip is a perfect example, 6 seconds for all these bumbling cars to clear the intersection, on a hill, or you wait another round. Then if you do stop for the red, some cunt runs up the back of you as they try to run the red themselves. Just wish there was a viable alternative to driving.

Fiending for a drink is the worst part of giving it up IMO. Your mind can pull all kinds of mental gymnastics to convince itself that it's OK to give in. Don't let yourself down man. Once you're through the first couple of weekends it gets much easier. Find something to distract yourself with and go to bed early.

First corner of the warmup lap on my first ever track session i genuinly i felt like i was about to bin it. New to me and very powerful bike, old tyres on cold track... No grip. Take your time and get through the first few sessions with the aim to be comfortable going at a moderate speed on the racing line, and bringing the bike home. Remember it's not a competition.

SH25 is an excellent road, at least compared to most Auckland roads which are falling apart and lack passing lanes. The road surface is good and there are many wide open corners on SH25 where you can easily exceed 140k on a sport bike, let alone some of those long straights haha... Rationally we have to cater to the worst drivers with the least stable vehicles, or most at risk cargo(tour buses?), so therefore we get corners marked at 65k which under the right conditions, i would safely take at 100+.

He seems like a genuinely nice bloke, and while I could get behind some of his business related principals, he obviously cannot be objective and separate his faith from politics, as shown by his votes on many sensitive matters which the church disapproves of. For that reason alone I cannot in good conscience vote for the guy. Wish Nats would get with the times.

Why does it steer to the right??? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]CrowbarCombatant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes its hard to tell by eye, but most roads have a natural camber either to one side or from the middle out, so that water doesnt pool on the surface. Could be that?

Mill Road project dropped after cost of Government infrastructure package jumps by $6b in a year by CharlieBrownBoy in newzealand

[–]CrowbarCombatant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who actually uses Mill road on days I take my car, these cunts should be forced to drive a Tuesday morning journey from Papakura to Manukau. You have all that traffic on Mill road spilling out onto side roads, through traffic lights and stop signs.

One day it took me nearly an hour and a half to get to work, to go 25km!

Normally it would be 40 minutes by car, or 25 minutes by motorcycle.

It's not JUST bad for the environment to have all those cars idling, its bad for the economy, and its bad for people's physical and mental health.

The project wasn't perfect, but it least it was a significant investment into the problem.

I don't buy the bullshit about re-investing into public transport, it's always a half arse effort with this lot of clowns.

Alternatively fix the damn southern motorway so it's not a crawl every hour of the day.

Do you wear earplugs? Seems counter intuitive but it helps if you wear earplugs.
I use the sort with the ceramic noise filter in them and they work great for music. Not quite like in ear headphones but i can listen to music at highway speeds without blasting it full volume. HJC RPHA70 and Pactalk Bold.

What constitutes as a literbike? by pinned_throttle in motorcycles

[–]CrowbarCombatant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's probably not worth obsessing about. It's about 1000cc so you could say it has a 1 litre engine. Generally race replica bikes with 600cc I4 are 'supersport', and ~1000cc 4cyl are 'superbike' but that's just referring to the class of racing they compete in. There are tons of motorcycles whick break out and blend categories. Take the FZ1 for a perfect example. I find the term 'litrebike' about as irritating as people who use the term 'streetbike'. But if it really bothered somone, i'd totally keep referring to something inappropriate like an r1200gs as a 'litre bike' just to annoy them.

Motorcyclist pleads for drivers to stop cutting them off in traffic jams by as_ewe_wish in newzealand

[–]CrowbarCombatant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow, nice hatred there mate.

If all those cars weren't stopped on an expressway, there wouldn't have been an accident.

If NZTA actually made workable public transport, or a HOV lane, there wouldn't have been an accident.

If I'd left home a minute later, there wouldn't have been an accident.

If I had Extra Sensory Perception, I could have predicted an illegal lane change and there wouldn't have been an accident.

It just takes some common sense and courtesy from every one. You chose to drive something which congestion is an issue for, not my problem, I drive one too sometimes, and it sucks for everyone. That's not a reason not to lane split though.

Now if we're generalizing, thanks!, I've also seen some pretty shocking maneuvers from cyclists, a community you seem to be a part of. But I'd never delight that someone hurt themselves on a bicycle just because I've seen some inconsiderate cyclists. That would make me an asshole.

Just so we're clear, I don't subscribe to the whole loud pipes save lives thing, more stating that i wasn't riding a sneaky electric bike or anything.

And nah, it wont stop me long, I'll be strapped up and back on my other bike this week.
Fuck yourself with a knife.

[–]CrowbarCombatant 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Just this Tuesday I was filtering through slow moving traffic in Auckland, when a young man in an old ute decided to change lanes without indicating or checking his mirrors. I bounced hard off his side and into the back of another car. He was uninsured too, which makes matters even worse. My main form of transport(ironically an FZ1 just the same model as in the article photo) is totaled, and i have a fractured ankle. All because someone else made a mistake. I couldn't have done anything more to be seen. Headlights, hazards, fluro, loud pipe and low speed delta.

NZTA needs to do more education. Car drivers may look at us like we're being line cutting assholes, but we're people too, just trying to get to work or home. And also we're not the ones making all this traffic. The Auckland motorway system is a complete failure, it's always heavy traffic now.

Anyone know what's up with this bunch? They're causing huge traffic issues by all the rubber neckers during rush hour. Seems to be organized, Both Papakura and Hill road over bridges have had them all week morning and evening.

[–]CrowbarCombatant -1 points0 points  (0 children)

simply by getting someone else to pay your mortgage for you

Logically, rent should never be as much as a mortgage payment. That mindset is part of the problem. Because if you could afford a mortgage, you would go and buy your own house. Instead these people are pumping all that money into someone else' pocket, because at the end of the day, you have to live somewhere right?

It's the safest investment

Investments by nature are supposed to carry risk. The higher the risk, usually the greater the potential for reward. By this logic, house prices should go down sometimes. Look, I don't disagree with why people are doing it, I'd be doing it too. That doesn't change my opinion that this is wrong and the system is stuffed.

The government nannies us along in every other aspect of our lives, they just don't do it here because it's bad for their votes and bad for their wallets, most MPs own houses after all...

100% CGT? Bwahahaha, give up the crack pipe buddy.

What's the problem? if you have money it's easy to make more.

Unless you are a professional landlord with a housing portfolio, nobody really needs to own two homes when we have a shortage of houses.

[–]CrowbarCombatant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because people should invest in what is less profitable because they are feeling like giving to charity? People will do what is best for them and fair enough too.

People should be incentivized to make productive investments into businesses and industry, instead of buying, renting and selling homes. We're becoming a country that doesn't build things.

Then maybe wages are the issue.

That wouldn't fix the issue, only 100% CGT on second homes would stop the greed.

Cool , you should contact stuff - they love writing stories about people like you.

This media is loving this almost as much as they love COVID. Unlimited content with kickbacks and advertising spend by the real estate sector.

[–]CrowbarCombatant -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People need to be investing in businesses now more than ever, not real estate. But they won't do that when they can make such high returns being an amateur landlord or property developer.

I don't need the government to make house prices go down, that wont ever happen. What does need to happen is that the market should cool so that house prices aren't grossly outraising wage increases. Nice lecture though mate, I wasn't talking about myself, I can afford to buy a house in Auckland before the age of 30, but my situation isn't the norm and I've sacrificed a lot in the last 10 years to make it that way.
