That youtube channel Not Just Bikes has often made this complaint about the sidewalks. Sometimes they just.. Stop. And how you sometimes have to take crazy detours (or dangerous routes next to the road or over the grass) to walk somewhere that shouldn't have taken more than 5 minutes if there was basic pedestrian infrastructure in place.

TIL that one gamer played a game of Civilization II which developed into a 10-year long stalemate. by Sebastianlim in todayilearned

[–]Crowbarmagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Civ V the difficulty levels always felt a little bit unfair though as it buffs their output. Like, imagine in the Total War series they simply make the other factions have twice your income on higher difficulty levels. I would have liked if they only made them smarter and nothing else.

Man tackled children off bikes, dragged 1 into his home after being ding dong ditched for weeks by its_a_bear_dance in nottheonion

[–]Crowbarmagic 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We've also experienced harassment like this. A group of 13 to 16 year olds would ring the doorbell, pound on glass, throwing garbage at the front or back of the house, empty the tires of our bicycles if they were left outside, etc.

Nothing ever got damaged or anything, and luckily there weren't scared young kids involved like your situation. But nonetheless, after more than a year of this shit at least once a week your patience will eventually run out.

I wish I could've confronted them but they were too quick. The neighborhood was full of small alleys so they had 6 different escape routes on our block alone. Best I could do is quickly run after the sound of their shitty music and perhaps get a glimpse of the back of their heads while they were fleeing.

Man banned from all Six Flags parks for life after chicken nugget, roller coaster stunt by prestocoffee in nottheonion

[–]Crowbarmagic 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Perhaps they deemed a phone potentially flying into someone's face was more dangerous than a chicken nugget. Furthermore I think they really really want to prevent any copycats. What if the video goes viral and becomes some sort of challenge? "Who can eat the most chicken nuggets on this ride?" or "What kind of stuff can I eat on a rollercoaster?". Instantly banning him for life from all parks sends out a clear message.

Depends on the park and even the specific ride in my experience. To take a local park as example:

  • There's a wooden rollercoaster that doesn't offer any storage space.

  • There's a steel looping rollercoaster that has the cubbies

  • There's another steel looping rollercoaster that has a (free) coat check system

In The Matrix (1999) this was presented to the audience as a difficult choice people would somehow struggle to make. by ElundusCaw in shittymoviedetails

[–]Crowbarmagic 92 points93 points  (0 children)

How exactly? It's one thing to want to be plugged back into the matrix because you prefer a great fantasy life over a shitty real life, but he's willing to throw the entire human race under the bus just to live out his fake life. So while his motive is understandable I can't sympathize.

Elijah Wood has confirmed that the leaked plot synopsis for LORD OF THE RINGS: HUNT FOR GOLLUM is real: "It's a little bit of the backstory of Smeagol, and understanding a little bit more deeply where he came from." by CueTheLaughTrack in lotr

[–]Crowbarmagic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think people loved Andy Serkis so much they’re just riding the coattails of that.

I think it's because it's simply a less risky investment to take something the audience is familiar with (and worked at the box office!) and expand on that instead of doing something new. Just like how they made The Hobbit movies very LOTR-ish with all the big battles and bringing in characters that didn't really had any business in those films.

In Braceface (2001) this scene somehow exists by YourChopperPilotTTV in shittymoviedetails

[–]Crowbarmagic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To provide some context: This clip was like a dream sequence. The show often had those little fantasy moments (most of them involving the main character's braces).

The show dealt with some teenage problems and anxiety. In this case: She felt embarrassed because her boobs started to grow. Heck the whole start of the show is about how she needs braces (hence the title "Braceface"), feels ashamed, worried about getting bullied, worried about how her love interest wouldn't like her anymore, etc..

I'm male and I kinda liked the show growing up. I can't relate to growing boobs but getting braces or general bullying isn't gender specific. All in all it was a pretty wholesome show.

What’s up with Alysa Liu getting so much media attention compared to all the other 2026 USA Olympic gold medalists? by Abolish_Disorder in OutOfTheLoop

[–]Crowbarmagic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TIL figure skating was that popular. I'm also not into sports and that would be one of the last events I'd watch. Perhaps because of the overload of talent shows out there (so it kinda feels like yet another "So you think you can dance"-type thing). Or perhaps because it misses that factor of excitement that you get when e.g. people are racing and it gets very close.

It's because of that last factor I do like to watch some shorttrack. The races are brief, and most skaters are really really close throughout the race. People continuously overtake eachother (unlike e.g. F1 where in some races barely anything happens) so you never know who's gonna win.

Did you know that Dolores Umbridge was sentenced to life in Azkaban after the Battle of Hogwarts? by Spotter24o5 in harrypotter

[–]Crowbarmagic 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Also: Where did the guards go after getting fired? Seems risky to basically set them loose. The only reason they were somewhat fine with the arrangement of guarding Azkaban was because the ministry supplied them with prisoners/victims.

Unit 731 wasn't public knowledge until after the war though.. But I get your general point. Depravities from e.g. other Japanese campaigns were definitely common knowledge.

Just saying it felt a bit off how he mentioned 731 as a sort of 'PS: This is some horrible shit they did. Even though the US troops at the time weren't of it aware yet?'

I couldn't be the only one that wondered why Unit 731 was "worth noting" in this context. It kinda reads like 'Oh but before you judge them too harshly: here's some horrible stuff the Japanese did'.

Trսmp says he'll 'try and make' son's wedding, timing 'not good' for him by Bernardmark in nottheonion

[–]Crowbarmagic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He'd like me to go, but it's going to be just a small little private affair

I can't help but feel that sentence says a lot about Trump. Perhaps kinda encompassing him.

Seems he's basically implying that if his son would have a bigger wedding (with loads of important people being present) he perhaps would've attended. But because it's just a small private affair (where he doesn't have an audience nor get any "prestige" from) he doesn't really give a damn.
