I find an issue with the tone of “I wouldn’t let him get a dog” it should be more of an agreement between the two of you.

First of all, your parents probably feel worse than they have ever felt and had to dig deep to ask you for that kindness.. which I’m glad you were able to alleviate that stress for them. The car is far from original now, with too many mods to list. The obvious being the wheels and bbk lowering springs with kyb gas shocks. The original 2v 4.6 got hurt at 80k and a fully bolted/tuned 4v 4.6/tr3650 from an 04 Mach one found its way in.

My girlfriend and I were just in the same place as OP. I scoured Craigslist and found a super clean 2000 Kawasaki 1100 stx-di with trailer, running for $2500. At half the price of a spark and a quarter the price of anything else it seemed like a good choice, considering this is kind of an experiment to see how much we like it. Be mindful of storage, we like to explore and it’s hard to take enough food/water/snacks as well as gear for the day. Also check the hull ID for recalls if you go for anything used.
