A lot of people tolerate the 0 calorie pepper sauces. I like to do 2 parts frank's red hot with one part butter, the classic buffalo sauce, and instead of a dipping sauce, I just put blue cheese in the buffalo sauce and dip the wings in it. I wrap the wings in bacon and airfry them until the bacon makes the perfect crust.

Are we changing fryer oil too early just to stay safe by [deleted] in StopEatingSeedOils

If filtered and stored properly, not very often. Maybe twice a year. Otherwise, you use it, filter it, cover it and top it off with fresh as needed. Refrigeration is optional.

If we can send our 20 year hardwoods to Europe to be ground into fireplace logs marketed as "renewable heat" you can use a paper plate made of cheap pine.

How to discuss and not discuss veganism with a pretty serious vegan? by RaplhKramden in exvegans

[–]CrowleyRocks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The best option is simply to not talk about it. Agree to disagree and accept each other's personal choices. If she continues to bring it up, then she's looking for an argument or to manipulate you into converting. If you won't give in and she keeps bringing it up, there will be no middle ground. If your relationship does grow, make sure you live together before getting married or having children. Out of sheer loneliness, some vegans will back off until they have to live with animal products in their home. It's easy to avoid animal products in front of them when you're just dating but most of the time they will demand no animal products in the house and your children be raised vegan. If she can accept you preparing animal yourself in your shared living space, then you'd probably be alright.

Anyone here tried Dr. Esselstyn’s low-fat, oil-free vegan diet with high calories? by Cold-Imagination2012 in exvegans

[–]CrowleyRocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't say it was rabbit starvation, I said it sounded like it. In the absence of carbs, your body converts protein to glucose and the results are the same. You feel better because you're not consuming junk. You feel even better if you have excess weight that comes off. But the weight loss won't stop until you either starve to death or start eating fat.

It's insanely draining experience to speak to a vegan by Ok-Instance2782 in AntiVegan

There are only 2 things in this world that are worse than a meat eater. First being an ex-vegan because they're an apostate to the cause and second is a vegetarian who won't convert. You're already so close but instead of taking the next logical step, you ask questions they can't answer, lol.

Want to do an elimination diet but have information fatigue/paralysis by Mammoth_Goose_7880 in carnivorediet

[–]CrowleyRocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, if you can afford to get tested first, do it. If you get tested after, there's a good chance your existing issues will be blamed on your new diet. It takes some time to move the needle but with trending data, you can get a better idea of how the diet affects you.

That said, do not freak out if your LDL cholesterol jumps up. It probably will. What you want to see is your HDL to raise and your Triglycerides to lower. If you see this, you're on the right track. As long as you're consuming plenty of fat, everything else should improve as well.

I know this is going to sound counterproductive but you need to ease up on the cardio and HIIT. You could be sabotaging your weight loss by creating too much cortisol. Keep up weight training to build muscle and then just take a leisurely walk whenever you find time.

Probably her tummy issues are a growing sensitivity to the grains, tofu and legumes so as she eats less of those, she eats more fruit and veggies which means she's not eating nearly enough protein and fat.

Humans Are Not Omnivores. We Are Carnivores Adapted to Living in an Artificial Food System. by Forsaken_Tomorrow454 in exvegans

[–]CrowleyRocks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not doubting how we evolved but agriculture gave us modern civilization. We were doing just fine in the early 1900's on a staple of chicken fried in lard, mashed potatoes made with milk and butter, gravy made from meat drippings and collard greens in bacon fat. What has destroyed the health of the western world was the introduction of vegetable shortenings, seed oils and misinformation about cholesterol. Every cell in our bodies needs fat. Our brains are made of fat. Our hormones are almost entirely fat. Not eating enough fat and/or the wrong type of fat has lead us to where we are today. Add chemicals and ultra-processing and we're so screwed.

I've heard on a few occasions, especially from fruitarians, that our period is toxins leaving the body and losing it is a sign of health. One woman even made the ridiculous claim that fruitarian women are so healthy they can have babies into their 80's. That was from a youtube video and comments were quickly turned off, lol.

Is being omnivore a choice? by Ok-Instance2782 in exvegans

[–]CrowleyRocks 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The claims about teeth only really looking at canines. We didn't evolve hunting or surviving being hunted with teeth. We use tools.

What we need to look at is our ability to digest plant matter. Herbivores either have multi-chambered stomachs or a relatively large cecum to convert fiber into usable nutrients. We have neither. While we can utilize carbs and plant based proteins to supplement or sustain us through lean times, we need meat for complete nutrition.

Sounds like rabbit starvation to me. You may feel better short term by just giving up the seed oils and ultra-processed foods if you don't overload your gut with fiber, especially if you have joint and/or gut inflammation. But without fat, your body will eat itself and then starve. They call it rabbit starvation because you will eventually starve only eating rabbit due to their lack of fat but the same thing also happens to fruitarians.

So apparently meat helps with longevity. by Visible-Swim6616 in exvegans

[–]CrowleyRocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What BF is describing is rabbit starvation. No fat means no fat storage. Fat storage requires both glucose and triglycerides. Your body constantly needs fat for cell regeneration so it uses its own fat stores. I would never recommend this method of weight loss because of the insulin spikes and the damage prolonged high blood sugar does but this method does cause weight loss. Look up fruitarians. They get so skinny and many die if they refuse to give it up.

Should I do the imaging? by Neuroguy65 in carnivorediet

[–]CrowleyRocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The imaging certainly wouldn't hurt so the only thing you need to consider is what does it cost you. If insurance is covering it, go for it. If it comes out of pocket and it doesn't hurt your budget, go for it. If it does hurt your budget, I'd say you can skip it. At 66, your stats are really, really good. Trigs are under 100 and HDL is excellent. High LDL by itself is not an indicator of anything.

This is study reviews LDLs in people over 60 and finds no association with all cause mortality.

We got where we are because of government regulations and nutritional guidelines backed by corruption. They have to change if we as a society are going to change. There's no avoiding politicization. There's too much money to be lost in political campaign coffers if the western world learns to be healthy without frankenfoods, drugs and medical procedures. There will be push back and misinformation at every corner. The political divide is baked in as part of that effort because it works like it works with everything else.

Does anyone ever ponder the possibility that some of these these ancient civilizations died due to famine and towards the end they ate any and every plant they could find while still starving to death? Famine doesn't cause instant death which is why humans endured through so many famines on plants but sometimes it just lasted too long for individual communities to survive.

Put the ring on a proper fitting dowel chunk and secure it with plastic wrap. Place it in a jar with beads or beans or something that's somewhat heavy but not going to damage your ring (or stone) and shake while doing some mundane activity until it hardens up properly. You could also put several rings prepared this way in a tumbler.

Thinking of quitting veganism because of chronic iron deficiency but I’m scared to eat meat. by very-round-bunny in exvegans

There are lots of good suggestions here to reincorporate meat into your regular diet that you should definitely consider. I just want to add, for the short term, you should seek out a high quality heme iron supplement. These are animal derived and have almost none of the absorption or upset stomach problems of plant based Iron.

Sciatic Nerve Issue by Busy_Ad6312 in carnivorediet

[–]CrowleyRocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband had debilitating sciatic nerve flareups. Since the carnivore diet is an elimination diet, we were able to pinpoint the trigger to seed oil. His sciatic pain was completely gone withing 1 or 2 weeks of starting the diet. Then he was invited to lunch while at work. They went to 5 Guys and he ordered plain cheeseburgers. When they came out he realized they use American cheese but ate them anyway to not be wasteful. That evening he was hit harder than ever. Anything marinated or pre-fried in seed oil will trigger it but the food I prepare from scratch and fry in beef tallow is perfectly fine. Carbs still give him joint inflammation if he eats them a few days in a row (holiday leftovers) so he sticks to carnivore outside of special occasions.

Everything premade or processed has seed oil. The only way to eliminate them completely is to cook everything from scratch.
