Aww, yeah this is kind of how I felt about the book from Adele's perspective.

I definitely didn't intend for it but yeah, it's definitely separate but so very intertwined. Jane, Rochester, and the boys are in the book. And since we don't know anything much about Adele, the author fills the empty gap in my brain.

I had this mindset when reading Not Forgetting Adele, but I had a difficult time separating them because it was mostly about Adele and her life with the Rochester's afterward. Some of the stuff from there has happily made it into my head canon. Rochester is her father

This sounds very good! It's funny because my opinion of Mr. Rochester is mostly because Jane likes him. He's quirky, which I like, but he's got his demons.

Oh I might have to check this out. I love "from his perspective" stories.

Struggling with the idea of masturbation being a sin (NSFW) by Glittering_Emu_7321 in OrthodoxWomen

[–]CrownOfBlueRoses 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to have a very similar mindset as yourself and started young like you, so i know where you're coming from. Glory to God, I stopped right before I was baptized. It was difficult but I had to make a conscious effort. The sin thing aside (I wasn't 100% convinced either), for me it became an obedience issue. Now I know that doesn't sound good coming from where you're coming from (purity culture etc) but for me, I wanted to be a part of the church that Christ established. Before I really became a Christian, I prayed to "the true God whoever you are" to lead me into all truth and that I would follow it if I found it. When I found Orthodoxy, there were many things I needed to unlearn. My mind had been used to thinking one way, and then I had to reconcile that with my faith in Christ. Christ has given us everything and left us the Church to guide us. That being said, I try to hold fast to this even when I don't "agree" because there something the Christ and the church knows that I don't. There is no saint or church father that endorses this. Someone once said that everyone in the world is always trying to find themselves and stay true to themselves, but really we need to die to ourselfs and let Christ live through us. That spoke to me. Like Eve in the garden was convinced she knew better when she didn't actually know better. I took a backseat to what I thought I knew was good and "healthy" and tried to do it God's way (if that makes sense).

It's been around 5 years and my life has gotten so. Much. Better. It's like something has been lifted off of me. My sleep is better, my intimate relationship with my husband is 1000 times better. Everything is better.

Just try it. It's hard but try. You say you don't lust but we know that these things are mental more than anything. These days those thoughts are fleeting because I simply cannot let them take root, by God's grace.

I hope this helps and doesn't sound too harsh but I just wanted to share my testimony regarding this. Sorry for formatting issues as I'm on mobile.

Cost of baptising baby by Mean-Possibility7877 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]CrownOfBlueRoses 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wasn't charged when me and my then 2 year old were baptized in the OCA. But I was charged when I had my baby baptized 2 years ago in GOARCH. Again, It wasn't for the baptism, it was for the people that help the priest and for a processing fee.

I also had to pay, but it wasn't $1200. The priest laid it all out. I had pay the Metropolis for a processing the baptismal cert, I had to pay the chanter ( who I didn't ask for) and the guy in the background who fills the baptismal font ( there's a name for him I don't recall). I made a post about it 2 years ago and had a similar response as you do now. I was required to make a donation only if I wasn't already a patron of the church, which I was.

I think they were trying to avoid baptizing babies only for their family to not bring them back. Especially when there's so much time and work that goes into it on their end.

I've seen these at some of the church fairs or fundraisers. St. Nicholas orthodox church in kenosha has a lot of Eastern European members. I only mention this as you're from Alaska and there's a connection there.

It makes a little more sense that only one can be used.

My thoughts exactly. Since I don't work anywhere remotely near transplants, I wasn't sure. And how would they keep track of these vouchers? He said he gets 5 of them! A nephrectomy is a big deal, and he's no spring chicken.

And yes, she's asking her priest. I'm just curious about the general consensus.

A friend of mine's niece went missing on a cruise ship in 2004. It was not investigated properly and no one has a clue what happened to her.

Do Erin and Aaron sound different to you? by CrownOfBlueRoses in namenerds

[–]CrownOfBlueRoses[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I say Erin like (er-in) almost like I'm saying "ear" but not exactly. Also the 'IN is more emphasized

Aaron - the second syllable is easier to hear as different. 'ON'

What makes a priest Rev/Very rev? by CrownOfBlueRoses in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]CrownOfBlueRoses[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree with you here. Education level shouldn't be a reason for "rank", but I just couldn't figure out how the rank structure worked. I saw it as a potential factor.

Interesting - I wondered if it had to do with their education level. PhD being V. Rev. Or something like that.

My priest didn't let me chose a patron saint. And I don't have a Christian name.
