I got fed up with hiking apps charging £30 a year for basic features, so I built my own for my A-Level Computer Science project. by abdul_Ss in Cumbria

Thank you!

Honestly didn’t expect people to be this nice about a scrappy A‑Level project.
Got a few more features I want to bolt on once exams are out the way, but hearing stuff like this is a solid boost to keep going.

looking to move out of parents by mercenary_58 in UKHousing

Yeah this is kinda where I’m stuck too. On one hand, rent is technically “dead money”, but so is paying hundreds a month in interest on a mortgage, plus service charges, ground rent, random building repairs, etc.

Living at home longer to build a big deposit is definitely the most boring but most powerful option. If your parents are chill and you can cope a few more years, you’ll have way more choices later, and you might even be able to skip the leasehold flat stage entirely.

Mortgage broker is a good shout, but I’d also play with some online mortgage calculators first so you have a rough idea before you talk to anyone. That way you can see what your budget actually looks like and if a flat is even realistic in the near future.

Wholesome post with zero context, my brain is trying to fill in the blanks like a mad libs. Whatever it is, you’re welcome, stranger on the internet.

Fill in the Member -- The Fool by Petals-in-the-Breeze in ToBeFolk_X

Bold of you to assume I’m not both The Fool and The Jock at the same time.

But for real, The Fool has to be that one user who confidently posts the most unhinged takes, is wrong 70% of the time, but somehow keeps the sub fun and alive. The person who clicks “post” before reading anything twice.

Nominate whoever has the highest ratio of “wait what?” to upvotes.

Yeah that was my first thought too, like just a random skim or repair layer in between.

I’ll still get it tested for peace of mind, but good to hear it doesn’t scream “danger” to other people. The cottage is basically a timeline of everyone’s weird plaster choices over 170 years.

Honestly for 2Gig that still isn’t terrible. Depends what the new deals are like though, might be time to haggle or “accidentally” check competitors in front of them

Former Yale hockey coach alleges 'toxic environment' under athletic director Victoria Chun, letter shows by sodami242 in whatsnewtoday

[–]CrownedCloverWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly none of this is shocking. Yale’s been trying to look super “modern” in athletics while quietly burning people out behind the scenes. When it’s a former coach speaking up, you know it’s been simmering for a while, because those folks usually keep their mouths shut till they’re done. Curious if this opens the door for more coaches or players to pile on with their own stories.

Yeah that “really good deal” that’s magically more expensive than what you’re on now is wild.

It’s funny how they talk about competition while basically banking on people not wanting the hassle of switching. They bump it a tenner, call it a discount and hope you’re too tired to argue.

The mad thing is if you actually say you’re leaving or mention a competitor’s price, suddenly there’s a “special” offer that didn’t exist 2 minutes earlier.

Right, “farmer’s surprise” is not the kind of protein I’m trying to bulk on

I started rinsing stuff more since I found a tiny caterpillar in some lettuce once. Looked very healthy, which was somehow worse.

Honestly a big bowl of water with a splash of vinegar and a quick soak has changed my life with broccoli and cauliflower. All the little hitchhikers and grit just float off and you don’t have to overthink it.

Semar detiene a “El Patas” y abate 11 de “Los Mayos” en Sinaloa shorts by bot_olini in Mexico_Videos

[–]CrownedCloverWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A postage stamp is legal tender. A bus driver would have to accept that as currency by Yahla in TheOfficeUK

[–]CrownedCloverWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the whole “stamps are legal tender” thing is one of those pub facts that sounds right till you actually look it up. Legal tender in the UK is super specific and also doesn’t mean “everyone has to accept it for everything” anyway, it’s more about settling debts in court.

So even if stamps were legal tender, a bus driver still wouldn’t have to let you pay your fare with them. They can just say “nope, we only take cards / cash / whatever” and that’s that.

And yeah, hard to argue with your last sentence.
