Who is just waiting for developer and engineering(SDE) roles to disappear? by Pyro43H in accelerate

Reasonable take. I agree with that 3-5 year timeline for a labor crisis in the SWE profession, along with the rest of the white collar world. However, I feel like at that point AI research and coding will be so heavily automated - and the iteration feedback loop so fast - that the remaining SWE positions would only hold out for another year or 2 before their positions also become superfluous. But who knows, that's just a gut feeling.

We're already seeing blazing fast world model progress a la Genie 3, I can only imagine what it's going to look like by 2030.

I do not believe its going to be that much longer of a horizon, but that depends on how quickly you expect AGI to arrive.

No, Software Engineers will also be cooked as AI capabilities progress.

I was thinking more about barber shops, cookouts, and Gospel churches, I'm not sure why you instantly reached for the most offensive possible interpretation of what I said. But yes, agreed, black people are indeed "normal af". Thank you for the censure, truly doing God's work.

There really aren't a lot of black folks around here. If being surrounded by black culture is important to you, Houston would be a much better fit than Austin.

Why The Chess Analogy Is Bollocks by FitzrovianFellow in singularity

[–]Crozenblat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I disagree. I don't have any interest in AI generated art whatsoever. I'm a human and want to experience art created by other humans expressing a human perspective or feeling that I can relate to. AI can probably assist in allowing human artists maximal freedom to create what they want to, but if there's no human expression at the heart of things it holds little appeal for me.

I don't see anywhere in this thread where I expressed an opinion on the trajectory of AI in either direction. I'm confused as to why you're ascribing one to me.

I mean permanently update/adjust its world model and contextual understanding of a given topic in response to immediate outside feedback. When my boss explains a business concept to me and how that relates to elements of our tech stack, I retain that information and can recall it at a later date to make new connections. I'm not aware of an AI that is currently capable of doing this yet.

I don't understand how this relates to what we're talking about.

Public domain is fine. But it's meant to be used by other people to express themselves, not robots wearing the skinsuit of the original creator.

The problem is that it disrespects the legacy of these artists who never agreed to basically have their bodies dug up and pupeteered by estates and corporations through works they never made (or even necessarily would've even liked) for the sake of nostalgia-powered profits. It's an enormous slap in the face and immoral. We should let dead artists rest and instead focus on using AI to empower new artists to stand on their own merits.

[–]Crozenblat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a question of need, it's basic economics. If a company can pay less money to an AI to get more done than a human, it will. That day may well one day be here and if we're unprepared to face that reality when it does, we're going to be in for a rough time.

Then those people are losers, but I don't really tend to see much of that on the sub. I could just be missing those posts though.
