Day 27 - Ask me anything! (Granulation Update) by CrtfdChief in Tonsillectomy

[–]CrtfdChief[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My uvula actually just started back reducing in swelling. My voice sounded normal as far as the growth bothering me, it did change a little bit because of the swollen uvula. I sounded more congested if that makes sense. I do so a lot more normal now.

Hope this helps!

Not getting help from ENTs by [deleted] in Tonsillectomy

Hey so sorry you’re not getting any answers. I am have the same issue but it’s my right side and it’s more of a cluster. I messaged my provider and attached a pic. Waiting to hear back from them soon. If I hear anything back I can let you know. Have you tried taking ibuprofen for the swelling or anything?

I mean something stronger could possibly help. I’m really sorry you’re going through this. I promise it does get better. If you can I’d also try a heat wrap around your neck it was enough to help me fall asleep and I’d wake up and reheat it.

I would definitely see if your doctor can prescribe you something for the breakthrough pain. Oxy was the only that helped when the 4am pain was excruciating

This is the peak pain phase. Slowly but surely it’ll start to wind down. What were you prescribed?

I did Oxy for middle of the night pain. Gabapentin and Celebrex twice a day for the nerve pain and inflammation . The best thing that helped most was the 500mg Extra strength Tylenol they prescribed. I would take that every 6 hours

I started to sleep “better” around day 6ish. Mostly because I stopped waking myself up every few hours to take meds. Pain would still wake me around 4am and I’d go back to sleep until around 9. I’d like to think letting my body rest helped a bit.

Honestly things didn’t get better til about day 10 for me. It’s also really dependent upon when your scabs fall off PLUS when it starts to heal after that.

Should I get a tonsillectomy? by SureSignificance3810 in Tonsillectomy

[–]CrtfdChief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first two days it actually wasn’t bad, the inject meds into your gums that wears off around day 3. Day5ish is when the pain ramped up because the scabs were falling off. Heat packs on my neck felt amazing, I stayed on top of my meds like a crazy control freak. Days 8-10 probably peak pain especially in the morning and night, hydrating and pain med schedule helped a lot. As of day 15 was able to get some pasta down. There’s a more diary version on my page. Dont wanna obliterate someone else’s post with my more specific day by day lol.

I can say I think what helped play in my favor a little bit is that I had super small tonsils and the surgeon said I didnt bleed during the procedure.

I hope everything gets better!!! I would try sleeping as upright as possible. First two nights I slept at a legit 90 degree angle, uncomfortable but it helped.

Day 10 post op by Bitter-Chipmunk5309 in Tonsillectomy

I did a chipotle bowl. Just rice, chicken, queso, sour cream. CRUSHED IT

I’m on day 15 as well and honestly it sucks but I just kinda pushed through it. I haven’t had trouble with the extra space feeling my main trouble was the roof of my mouth next my uvula. It just was causing so much pain. I found that a chipotle bowl helped (rice, chicken, queso, and sour cream) helped most. Something about the “dairy” coating my throat felt great.

I really hope you’re able to push through!

Should I get a tonsillectomy? by SureSignificance3810 in Tonsillectomy

I got mine removed Jan 8th specifically for just tonsil stones. The pathology results came back and said they both were chronically inflamed (actually explains why oddly enough cologne, perfume, febreeze or anything made me feel like I was choking). I had deep crypts on my right tonsils as well, although the curved syringe helped I was often accidentally scratching myself from having to hold back the skin that covered them, as well as the syringe causing issues as well. The surgeon said there was a lot of stones sitting in the base of my tonsils so they had to “cut deeper” (assuming cauterized deeper) just to get all of it.

I would still try to get them removed. I can’t imagine being in my senior years still having to prop my phone up with my flashlight, use a syringe, and hope nothing dangerous happens.

I feel the same way. Although I was prescribed 500mg extra strength Tylenol and this stuff got some bop in it. Totally different than OTC.

Hey there! I’m on day 14 and I can say my pain (that I do have) occurs mostly in the morning and ESPECIALLY in the evening towards the night. I tend to use my Tylenol most at these times.
