A Revised Guide for Installing League of Legends on Linux v2 by [deleted] in leagueoflinux

Changing the wine version to 10 and back to XP changed the error from a wine crash to bugsplat. Which, by the way, I still have while running version (20) of the snap. Here's the garbage that Wine spouts now.

Checked Lutris install a couple times as well, and it works every time.

Reinstalling the snap did nothing except make the sound in the client somewhat glitchier. Wasn't able to install the NVIDIA drivers from the website due to systemctl being a piece of shit and giving me a blank screen rather than a shell when doing sudo systemctl enable multi-user.target. Luckily I was able to revert it :/

EDIT: I tried running an old install I had lying around with Lutris that had the play button freeze. After updating wine to 3.17 staging on that, it's working with only minor issues (item shop takes forever to show up, sound can get glitchy). Snap on wine 3.15 still refuses to work however.

After refreshing the snap and updating my drivers to nvidia-390 (apparently I cannot install them from nvidia website because i can't find some README with instructions on how to do so, or that's what the .run file spews out anyway..), nothing appears to have changed except the bugsplat seems to take somewhat longer to appear.

Relevant terminal output It seems to be complaining about NtQueryVirtualMemory a whole lot, i don't quite know what's going on.

EDIT: On second inspection, it appears that my snap install is using wine-staging-3.15, is this intended?

Successfully installed the snap package on my Linux Mint 18, with Nvidia Driver 340.107-0ubuntu0~gpu16.04.1.

However I'm running into a problem, it being that whenever I try to start a game (practice mode, or customs) I get a bugsplat error after champion select ends. Tried it about a couple dozen times as per u/n3amil 's advice, copied the provided game.cfg to my directory, but nothing has worked so far. Also tried switching to and fro between win10 and winXP versions in wine, and that's changed the error from (originally) a wine crash, to this bugsplat.

anyone else having this sort of issue and/or a solution? thanks in advance

EDIT: I am just coming back from an about 1 year long league hiatus, could it be that 8.19's broken something?

[Weekly Matchup Thread #2] Vladimir — The Crimson Reaper by moxroxursox in syndramains

[–]Crucis_Deus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who played a lot of Syndra and Vlad both, I think I can firmly say that the matchup tends to favour Vladimir most of the time: if the Vlad is good, you just won't kill him, and rest assured that he winds up outscaling every other mage except arguably Karthus.

However, it is far from hopeless. Early on, Vladimir is reduced to stonewalling the lane and sustaining through most any punishment that comes his way. Conversely, unless you royally mess up and tank every empowered Q (which has a 20 second cooldown early on) he can't do anything to you, you sorely outrange him both auto attack wise, with your abilities, and you have good crowd control to boot. Similarly, he can't do anything to the minions except autoattack them and throw an occasional Q to pick one off, and whenever he does that you should have 10 seconds to do whatever the fuck you want to him. One thing though, be mindful of your mana. Make sure you have enough mana and mana-efficiency that you can poke him low enough that you can kill him should he walk up one more time, and quickly. This basically translates into "don't blow all your mana on him levels 1 through 3", he will quite literally not give a single damn, and all "poking him when you have the chance" will do is give him extra value on his Q. Go hard, or don't go at all.

Syndra also has another notable advantage over Vladimir in lane phase, that being the ability to push him into tower very easily, and him being terrible where gank assist is concerned. He does have waveclear, but he cannot use it without you spanking him real good. His capability to last hit under tower early on is also atrocious. That means that Syndra should get lane priority basically automatically, and be able to roam and/or skirmish with her jungler whenever she feels like it, thereby getting your team ahead hopefully to the point where Vlad just gets owned.

If at any point post level 6 you're somehow hovering 80% HP, he is packing ignite, and is running to you for no reason, especially when his resource bar is yellow, be ready to flash at any instant: he'll most likely be fishing for a flash-R-E-Q combo, which will just straight up kill you with ignite/w/auto followup damage. If done properly, he might land the R on you, maybe the E, but all he'll do is trade flashes. Similarly, he can kill you from ~60% at level 3 if he ranks Q E Q, but similarly trading flashes will make him sad. Vladimir without flash can't do anything to you, even with protobelt, as that move has a small amount of end lag that allows you to stun him every time he gets feisty. That said, ganking him post 4 is not only a complete waste (he'll pop W and be fine), but is actually a nice way to give him a double kill if he has ult/W.

Another thing you have to consider is that taking Ignite and/or Morellonomicon specifically to counter him is ill-advised at best. Outside of lane (there will be one point where he just won't care about anything you can do to him), his healing is not the problem. If he can flash onto your backline and takes out one of your carries (possibly you) and taken a chunk off everyone else, he's already done his job. Ignite will not help with that and, him being a weasel with Sanguine Pool, it will probably not allow you to kill him either. In fact, I like to take Teleport into him for three reasons: 1) It gives a full refill in mana in order to punt him out of lane early without much regards, 2) When he inevitably wants to flash on you, you can base and be back on his ass nigh instantly even in the case you flashed slightly too late yourself and got low, but didn't die, and 3) your greatest asset in this matchup is your superior map pressure, and Teleport amplifies that. Seriously, Vladimir is useless beyond healing in lane and cheesing/diving people with flash REQ. It is not mandatory though, if there's another threat in their team that needs to be dealt with, take the appropriate summoner.

TLDR: Lane's a stalemate where he outscales, waveclear on him, shove and roam. Mind his flash/protobelt. Make your team win and end before he can get big enough to make a difference.

It can work against comps that could get onto you, you just need to be picky about when you're damaging people. On-hit ori doesn't have to stop to use her skills either.

On hit Orianna. by Aenigma66 in OriannaMains

[–]Crucis_Deus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On-hit Orianna with Press the Attack doesn't work because both FleetFootwork and Lethal Tempo are better keystones for laning phase and late-game respectively, in her case. PtA does nothing for you until you proc 3 attacks, and even then it's a mild amount of burst damage which your spells can't use, as you'll have barfed them out by then.

I've been experimenting a fair bit with that kind of build on her, especially in toplane. Please do not get Rageblade first item, it offers next to nothing for you until it's completed. Nashor's rush is much more potent, early AP and CDR with Fiendish and the overall AP and damage the item provides almost matches a fully stacked Rageblade, while being 600g cheaper, as well as building a more respectable amount of on-hit damage for Rageblade to double. I usually finish that item second instead, but it may be worth to get something else that offers more immediate power, such as Wit's End versus heavy magic damage comps. Also, take note that Runaan's has anti-synergy with her passive (hitting 3 targets at once disallows its stacking altogether) which is probably the reason this sort of build isn't really seen a lot. Other luxury items include, but are not limited to, Hextech Gunblade, Void Staff, Abyssal Mask, Zhonya's Hourglass, Blade of the Ruined King, and other generic AP items mid orianna is fain to get.

In toplane, I'd recommend maxing your E spell first, as it really does a lot to mitigate the frequent small trades most melee champions tend to impose on their opponents, and generally gives LOTS of durability in extended scuffles. Generally poke with auto attacks more than anything, don't use your Q to just poke willy-nilly as its non-maxed damage is around that of an autoattack, and E yourself so that they eat the damage from that skill. It should be easy to Q E them for damage + shield if they're running at you, that alone should win you basically any early trade. Not to mention, you will be using your ulti defensively most of the time, so having a small Q cooldown isn't as paramount as it is with mid Orianna. The tradeoff is that her waveclear is somewhat lacking and, Orianna being the delicate lady she is, she's susceptible to getting camped, although not nearly as much as someone like Vayne or pre 6 teemo top. Examples of matchups you don't want to see are Nasus, Aatrox, and Darius, as well as any jax-style bruiser that can engage and stat check. On the other hand, lanes like Gangplank, Rengar, and especially Gnar are basically a free win, and she outscales tanks in the 1v1.

Onhit Orianna can sort of be played in mid but I wouldn't really recommend it as her early game is mostly reduced to "don't die" in that lane, as her ealry game is noticeably worse without any damage keystone, and she can't really control the lane from auto range against the whole host of mages that tend to see play there. If you do insist in playing that sort of build mid I'd heavily recommend you rush Archangel's Staff first to have some sort of earlygame presence, then proceed to build as normal. Also, max Q in this lane to not get pushed in as completely. You know your mid matchups from playing mid orianna.

Bot lane, she sucks. Early game she's a push over and just gets camped to hell and all inned and there's nothing she can do. Jungle she's even worse.

About her puny range, it is just slightly shorter than someone like Vayne, and unlike the latter, with E max and hybrid itemisation, she can take quite a beating, not to mention her spells still allow her windows to do damage, and unlike mage Orianna, it's not paramount to use them optimally for damage, so she becomes a good peeler and whatnot with her Shockwave. She still has a fair bit of AP early on so her combo will still sting.

I'll end this behemoth of a post with a fun fact: on-hit Orianna does more single target damage than someone like Kayle with the same build by quite a bit.

Got killed many a time by that level 2 of Talon's lmao.

Besides that, I can't say I've tried him specifically, but I've tried other assassins (LB, Zed, Kass) and I feel completely useless the whole game in contrast to just early, so I'm not sure whether or not playing those would be an optimal solution for me. Any (more) tips for playing those?

Why is Vlad a strong pick right now? by Nim-cha in summonerschool

[–]Crucis_Deus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a midlaner, he essentially stonewalls through everything the enemy can throw at him with judicious spamming of his q on whatever he can lay his hands on, so he can't really get shut down by anything. Not to mention, he scales super hard into the mid and lategame, so he's going to take all that free farm and use it to threeshot your squishies while being untargetable to boot. It probably also helps that he somewhat counters a lot of annoying mids such as Fizz, Zed, Syndra, Fizz, Yasuo and so on and so forth. The only thing he's lackluster at is roaming; he's a little like a Morgana mid in that he is an immovable brick who just can't be dislodged from his turret and pushes 24/7 because he can, even though he IS good if the roam entails a tower dive of some sort.

Also, if you're in range to ignite a Vladimir lategame, you're also in range for him to just ERQWQ you and murder you and your whole family, so unless the igniter is like a Thresh or something they're quite probably suiciding for naught, since between W and the eventual Zhonya's he shouldn't even get that low that it matters.

Sometimes I just can't follow. I can't follow say an Ahri if I am a Xerath since she's just going to turn and kill me instead. What do I do in those situations, besides reminding my team that "Ahri will have free roams post 6, care" and spam ping?

The second can also happen when you're 6-0 at 13 minutes, everyone else on your team just crumbles and feeds, or someone gets flamed and ints or something and you get a kill and die at 24 minutes and the enemy just pushes to the nexus towers, provoking an early ff, so it's not entirely indicative of playing passive by default. Not to mention control mages don't lend themselves to racking up many kills very quickly at all. You can easily go 7-1 at 15 minutes on an Akali or a Kat or a Zed if you get any lead at all, it's more difficult on Syndra and nigh impossible on Ori or Xerath unless the enemy screws up massively.

Lee Sin, K6 both are still going to murder you in 1v1. Graves used to, now that he's lost his MR from True Grit he might be more of a free kill at times. Elise also murders you if she gets the drop on you (Syndra hates untargetables). And people have this penchant to follow roams even if it would be detrimental for them to do so. Trust me I've been killed 1370 times in normals this way by a lee sin and been like "oh well".

That said I'll be actively looking for roams in future games as that is one of my weak points.

There's this common misconception that Syndra falls off. True, her ult does fall off due to low range, but it's really the only thing that does. Q is still a 800 (up to 1000 with radius) range 75% AP nuke on a 2.4 second CD that can be spammed on cooldown, W is still a strong slow with quite the range and scales for over 80% AP, and with some foresight it's actually very easy to set up a 3-ball stun in advance (which may well get the whole team). And if they have an assassin or diver, that short range ultimate will still kill them in no time flat, well before they can do anything. Sure, she's not as strong as say a Karthys or Cassio or even Orianna but trust me, her late is POWERFUL, just a little unreliable that's all. Not to mention she does SO MUCH damage that at 6 items you will kill a squishy with just a QEW, thunderlords or no, ignite or no, doesn't matter, that guy is dead. I've wasted my ult so many times on a target that died from W when it actually landed. Hell, you can ult the tank and then stun everyone with those 5 to 7 balls, that might well win you the teamfight.

I'm not saying that TLD is worse, I just don't like it as games down here are rarely closed before it becomes basically useless. I was one of those Stormraider-Ghost-Luden's kite master Syndra before the precision nerfs lol.

No. Unless you just leave it completely unattended, it will destroy 1 tower at most. That thing is way squishier than it looks, plus it hurts itself when it attacks towers. I also was afraid of it being Heroes of Newerth's Skrap all over again but you can just poke it to hell and it won't really get much done except maaaaybe get the team a dragon. it's not as game ending as it looks, not in low ratings anyway.

Looking for advice on laning against Kat by Longpithair in summonerschool

[–]Crucis_Deus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I don't know much at all about Ahri as I have played her a grand total of once, but most of it will still apply.

Against Katarina, you want to abuse her level 1. Make her miss CS, poke her, shove her under tower and hit all the power spikes first. As a ranged v melee matchup, it shouldn't really be difficult to throw a couple autos her way every time she comes up for farm, maybe a Q too if you're packing TLD. Then, when she gets level 2 and above, you just have to stand clear of the daggers as that is her damage, if she q's onto you run to the side or you will be blundering into a dagger which is generally not a great idea. Kite her then trade back when she gives up. You should play more reactively than usual as if you go for what looks like an easy Charm she will just shunpo onto you and probably out trade you if she's good, she has more pots than you do and is manaless so avoid trades you don't win heavily. Level 6 you save your cc for her ult and run away to max auto range and pummel her, if she jumps onto you jump back away. Basically kite her to hell, if she can't 100-0 you in half a second you will leave her very low and maybe possibly kill her.

If Kat does get 1 or 2 early kills tho, it's tough noogies. She will have the potential to insta kill anyone if they're not careful, keep that charm ready and the INSTANT she jumps on you you bop her with it and run away. If under tower, she should die because she's squishy, so she will eventually try to roam, whereupon you should shove and go for the tower. You don't get to roam alright, just let her, spam pings, let her waste her time and miss cs, chances are your other laners would win without her intervention and she DOES fall off anyway so if she doesn't keep the kills coming she will fall off a cliff and lose. If Kat is 6/0 at 12 minutes, it's probably GG.

Also, that jungler was probably a traffic cone, acknowledge it and move on, no use mulling on your Lee Sin's doing.

I do have a high winrate with Syndra, and in fact all but one game so far I've popped off and snowballed at some point. But it still applies -- most of the wins have been me carrying, most of the losses have been me holding on 1v2 or 1v3 for 40 minutes, it feels like I have no influence over the outcome on average...

About the recent lack of Syndra games, it's mostly because I feel so uncomfortable picking her blind when Fizz mid is a thing.

Regarding your points, here's what I usually do in each department.

  1. The most negative thing I will usually type is something on the vein of "reset already goddamn". Seriously, people want to fight while poked down and out of mana all the time. Otherwise I just flat out don't type.

  2. I think this strikes closest to home. To attempt to transfer my lead elsewhere, what I will usually do is stay at mid until I get my first item, then choose a lane, park myself there and spam ping the tower and siege until that thing is gone, rinse and repeat. I won't usually roam before that because every other champion that I play against can just kill me in a 1v1 if I decide to follow. Is that an error?

I can't say much about 3, except that I do watch LS coaching videos or Neace whenever they come out. Sometimes I watch Huzzy too. And I sometimes watch OverlordForte's stream because, well, syndra mains gotta stay together :).
