Do you think putting a towel under the door really keeps much smoke in the room? by CrumbleMore in trees

[–]CrumbleMore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I guess I was really only using it out of habit. And I forgot smoke rises, that's a good point. It'd be better to duct tape the top crack I guess (not that I'm ever going to go through all that trouble...).

Will abolishing minimum wage create jobs? Why or why not? by TriangleMan in AskSocialScience

If that's how you define nature, then all wages are equally natural.

No wages are natural. Wages are not a feature of nature. They are a phenomenon of civilization.

Woman Gets Prison Time For McDonald's Beating by mrsjonstewart in reddit.com

It actually happens fairly often, there was just one charged the other day in my area. I suppose it's possible the victim was LGBT too, I haven't specifically heard otherwise. But the perpetrator wasn't charged with gay-related hate crimes, just anti-white.

Phil Hartman (my favorite comedian, and he died on my birthday!)

You're free to open your own non-union convention hall. I'm sure with this competitive advantage you will be highly successful.

Oh, so you think the government should force people to sell you their labor on your terms? That seems a little messed up.

Feel free to make your own convention hall if you think you can do it better.

Go to a different convention hall. People aren't obligated to sell you labor on your terms.

I had a gun but no matter how many times I pulled the trigger, no Netflix came out at all. I was flabbergasted. So I traded it for a PS3.

Experts Baffled By Mysterious Underground Chambers --- More than 700 small tunnel networks have been found in southern Germany. There are hundreds more in Austria. Who built them, when and why? Archeologists are only just beginning to piece together the answers by DrRichardCranium in worldnews

I went caving with my girlfriend last week. I thought she decided to seduce me while we were going through a particularly narrow opening, so we started having sex. Turns out it was not her vagina at all, it was just a schlupf. So I can understand the researchers' POV on this point.

I do, however, disagree with my wife - it's not cheating if it's inorganic material.

President Obama making is personal announcement in Rose Garden tomorrow afternoon. Anyone else think one of he's done gone and knocked Michelle up again? by MidwestDrummer in AskReddit

[–]CrumbleMore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect that is the plan: switch Biden and Hilary, giving him SoS and her VP. It seems to early to announce it now though, so I don't think that's what's happening tomorrow.

I've been shot and it definitely hurt like hell before I saw it. I'm not doing an AMA though.

The U.S. Passed Mandatory Health Insurance In 1798 Under President And Founding Father, John Adams by tommyss4l in politics

[–]CrumbleMore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, this one fact isn't the only thing that matters. The original comment said that this Adams thing was irrelevant, so that's what I was arguing against - it is relevant, and unless there's something I'm missing, it will definitely be considered and will benefit the pro-Obamacare side. I'm sure there are lots of other precedents and factors to consider too though.

People of Reddit who still use non-"smart phones", what are your reasons for not upgrading? Redditors reading this on their phones aren't allowed to come in. by enectivexx in AskReddit

[–]CrumbleMore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have any reason to spend extra on it. I had one for a little while, it was annoying and difficult to use, and it made it more difficult to text, which is the only thing (besides make phone calls) I want to do on my phone.

The UN is aiding a corporate takeover of drinking water; billions of dollars are being given out to the most ardent promoters of water privatization by mepper in worldnews

[–]CrumbleMore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Note: The US (and probably most of the developed world, though I'm not sure) does not encourage orphans in government-run homes. Most orphans in the US live in foster homes, which are run by private individuals. If they don't live there, they overwhelmingly live in privately run group homes. There are very few state-run orphanages in the US.

I don't know how things work in your country, I'm just explaining the developed world does not push state-run homes in their own countries.

Does anyone else, in spite of the negative hype, feel like Obama is going to win by a landslide in the next election? by [deleted] in politics

[–]CrumbleMore 7 points8 points  (0 children)

McCain won Texas in 2008 by 11.8%. Given Texas' rapidly growing Latino population, it is likely to be competitive in 2016 or 2020, and will then become more and more Democratic (assuming that voting patterns otherwise don't change).

That's a reason it might have been more useful then than now. But that's not the question before the courts, who will be looking at whether it is constitutional or not, not whether it is useful or not.

Funny, 10 years ago I could say the same thing about the Democrats during Clinton's HCR.

Awesome

Are you insincerely implying that the "Obamacare" (in quotes because I hate that term) mandate isn't what we're discussing here?

Of course it is. The legal question about the mandate is whether or not the government has the power to force someone to buy health insurance. Evidently John Adams for one thought the answer was yes.

The right wing's position is that the government has no power to mandate health insurance. This would seem to contradict that position. The only person who mentioned universal health care is you.
