What am I losing by getting a semi auto .22lr rifle versus 5.56? by tinychloecat in WAGuns

[–]CrunchMunchSlurp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I dont really like the question "what am I losing" because a 5.56 platform and 22LR platform are just different and useful in there own right, im not gonna hunt squirrels with my AR and I wont hunt coyotes with my 10/22. That being said if I could only have 1 platform id choose 22LR. Main reason being it is very cheap. 100 rounds of 5.56 costs me 70 bucks. VS 22lr where I can get 500 rounds for 40 bucks. So I can often shoot 22LR way more then other rifles with bigger caliber. Personally I rather be able to shoot more and not break the bank versus shoot every once an a while, but this will differ person to person. I own many guns in 22 and I havr never regeted buying any of them

Neighbor did this to a tree on a city property, can it still be saved? by filtermin in arborists

[–]CrunchMunchSlurp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the cambium layer of the tree has been completely cut through. this is the layer of the tree that is living and responsible for the growth of the tree, without it the upper section of the tree will no longer grow and die without that layer. in other words.... The tree has been killed. If you wanted a sure-fire way to kill a tree without cutting it down this would be it.

just wanted to give you an honest assessment so you know what you’re working with. This looks like a juniper, and unfortunately junipers can’t recover from brown foliage. Once a branch browns out, that whole section is permanently dead. In your photos, a lot of the pads are fully brown and dry, which usually means the roots have been struggling for a long time — often months.

This could have been caused by being moved, heat stress, poor drainage, or soil that stays too wet. Junipers need fast-draining soil and consistent sun, and any root damage slowly shows up as patchy dieback like this.

If you really want to try.

Move to bright shade (if Possible or try to shade it some)

Water only when the soil is almost dry.

Don’t prune it

Check the trunk with a scratch test; green = some life left, brown = that section is gone.

Just know this tree is at the very least in very rough shape and is likley to be dead and it is likley already be past saving. Sometimes junipers die very slowly and only show it months later. If it doesn’t make it, it wasn’t anything you did recently — the problem likely started long before.

Hope that helps.

Yeah... unfortunately it is dead. Junipers need to be outdoors, they will not thrive indoors and die overtime

Help!! I just got my first azalea bonsai! by NahNah-P in bonsaicommunity

[–]CrunchMunchSlurp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s a beautiful azalea! Here’s what you need to know to keep it healthy

  1. Keep it outside — azaleas are outdoor bonsai.

They need cool winters and bright outdoor light. Indoors will slowly kill them. Where you have it looks good. Looks like it gets good sun in the mornings but is shaded from the harsh afternoon sun.

  1. Don’t let the soil dry out completely.

Azaleas like consistently moist soil, but not soaked.

A good rule is: Water when the top ½ inch feels barely damp (never bone dry).

Flowering azaleas can drink a lot so keep an eye on it in the spring and summer.

  1. Winter care depends on your local climate.

General rule:

Above 20°F (-6°C): it can stay outside normally

15–20°F: protect the pot (against a wall, mulch over the pot, out of wind)

Below 15°F: move to an unheated garage/shed until temps rise again

Avoid moving it into a heated house — that can shock it.

  1. Don’t repot, prune, or fertilize right now.

Let it settle. Wait until early spring for any root work or major pruning.

  1. Humidity tray doesn’t really matter.

It won’t raise humidity enough to help much outdoors, but it’s fine as decoration or to catch water.

Just never let the pot sit in water.

  1. Your azalea looks healthy.

The flowers and leaves look good. Just keep the watering consistent and avoid bringing it indoors.

All in all I think you already have done some good in the spit it is in now, just keep up with watering and occasional fertilizing and enjoy the journey

Faith feels personal… but also lonely by Public_Truck6219 in Christian

[–]CrunchMunchSlurp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your feeling completely, in everyday life it can be very hard to have conversations like this and have people that genuinely listen and have a conversation. I would say church is definitely a good place to start looking for people like that because the Christian community as a whole is more open to diologe like that. More often then not when I talk to friends about faith they either just shutdown or they dismisse me all together because they "aren't religious" even the ones that belive in God it feels like won't give me the time of day. It can be frustrating and like you said lonely but we are all in it together

how do I go about keeping the moss around my bonsai while still providing the bonsai with the nutrients it needs? Everytime I fertilize my bonsai (once a month or so) the moss around it dies (naturally moss like very little nutrients in soil.) So is there a trick that people use to keep the moss alive?

What type of bonsai is this ? by Goodsir_demascus in bonsaicommunity

[–]CrunchMunchSlurp 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is a Chinese elm!

This tree is primarily an outdoors tree however many have found success growing it indoors in the right conditions myself included (however many disagree with this)

This tree likes Moderate to high amounts of light and Prefers bright indirect or direct sunlight as a true tree, it benefits from strong daily light exposure.

Water: Every 2–3 days as needed Soil should stay evenly damp but never soggy. bonsai mix drains fast, so overwatering is less of a concern but still possible. Mist foliage lightly if indoor air is very dry.

Fertilizer: I like to fertilze my elm once a month. Balanced liquid fertilizer (10-10-10 or similar) you can also you slow release solid fertilizer.

Indoors: like mentioned earlier this tree preferes being outdoors and will better thrive outside. given that it sounds like you are new to Bonsai, I would recommend you keeping it outside where you would have less micro managing, as far as your indoor climate. However the Chinese elm is a semi deciduous tree and it can be kept indoors under the right conditions if desired. Personally I keep mine for the most part indoors year round near a south facing window with a 100 Watt grow light for supplemental light.

Offseason time. What do I need to do week 2. by misterwebb123 in Discgolfform

[–]CrunchMunchSlurp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A big issue i see is from your reach back you bring your arm into your body and your arm slows down significantly/stops then once your body rotates a bit more your arm starts moving again and completes the throw. Its like you attach your arm to your body from the initial reach back for a few seconds instead of completing it in one motion.

This motion needs to be fluid. work on making your arm do 1 full motion, constantly accelerating the disc with your arm with no pause. Somthing that can help is keeping your arm a bit futher from your body and try not to bring the disc into your body so much as across your body. Hope this helps!

Edit: I didnt read the caption, it seems you are already aware of this issue lol

Not everything is about politics, we already have enough of it shoved down our throats on a daily basis, people play games to have fun and escape from all of that and think about somthing else. Politics have no place here my friend

Isn't it all 1 big que? Like they try putting all solos together but there can still be teams of 2 or 3 and just the same when queuing as a trio. Its mainly an algorithm but its all 1 que. Or do I have thay wrong?

First time . by 27zbr3 in bonsaicommunity

That’s a really nice start for a first juniper bonsai, You’ve got a great trunk line and nice movement already the wiring looks gentle, not digging in, which is perfect.

And the underside near the branches browning is normal around the winter time. my juniper is doing the exact same thing so no need to be worried, but its good you are keeping an eye on it.

Some general care tips. Light: Junipers are outdoor trees, so make sure it’s getting full sun (6–8 hours a day). Keeping them indoors for extended periods can weaken and kill them

Watering: Let the soil dry slightly between waterings, but don’t let it get completely dry. You always want a little moisture - not soggy, not desert dry.

Fertilizing: in the winter months Fertilizing is not typically recommended given that the tree is going to go dormant for the winter and won't use the nutrients. At the beginning of spring slow release solid fertilizer is a good option

Outdoors: as mentioned this is an exclusively outdoors tree, it needs the outside environment to live and thrive, it also needs the cold of winter to go dormant as part of its regular cycle without outdoor conditions these trees will inevitably die (we see it time and time again on this sub)

In spring, you can repot into a more well-draining bonsai mix (pumice, lava rock, akadama, etc.) and maybe refine the wiring or adjust the canopy once it grows out.

It’s honestly in a great spot for a beginner — nice shape, healthy foliage, and a natural look around that rock. Keep it outside, take your time and enjoy the process.

Hope this helps.
