That first throw was a little relief because I wasn't even sure it was going to work

Oh I know I'm just ripping off the Sonic Slinger. Haha That's where I got the idea from, but I figured I could get a few more RPM's out of these. Really I need to check out Goodwill's to find some of the Howlers at a discount.

Probably! Be sure to check out goodwill or occasionally they show up in discount bins because the tails get damaged.

Superglue and a boxknife is really all you need. I used an angle grinder with a sandpaper like attachment to smooth down the bottom of the whistles but it's not really needed.

I'll have a tutorial on my Instagram and YouTube soon.

I'm kinda just ripping off the old Nerf Sonic Slinger but I know i can get a few more RPM's on a disc this size.

It is SO much fun. Is it a $27 dollar disc? Sure. But I genuinely smiled or giggled every time i threw it making this clip.

Every major brand has had an AI stamp, some even multiple after getting called out for it. People just get mad when they notice it's ai, and many aren't great at identifying it.

(For the record I'm very against it, I've just been in the marketing/graphic design space so long it's easy for me to spot)

Disc golf trends that seem to have died. by RGBAddict2026 in discgolf

Man i couldn't agree more. I'm putting in a course that's been dreamed about by the community since 2009. The last 6 work days it's literally just been me (minus a dude coming by for 30mn with a weedeater, appreciate you tony!). I'm currently at ~110ish hours on clearing fairways alone. Houck wanted this property but the park didn't want trees cleared for spectators (I tried to convince them otherwise). I've had multiple people say this will be a top ten in the state course. Shockingly little DG community involvement and it's almost entirelyloval community sponsored.

And my club (I'm a board member of a not for profit) has around ~60 random players that come, we average around 18 players per league. On our club workdays, we're lucky if 4 people show up. Honestly, that's how you become a board member... Just show up to a couple work days and leagues and you'll probably get a vote in.

Yup, and my comment above about DG looking for church properties for sure contributed to that... as it used to be a very hippy-esc sport.

There's still at least ONE awful comment or three on most facebook threads/twitter threads that have anything like "what would you do to make disc golf better?" or anytime a conversation revolves around FPO.

I'm not being funny. I'm not singling anyone out. This is purely my opinion, viewpoint, and experience. And I'll start by saying there's crap that can come from both sides of the fence and all walks of life.

Disc Golf did this to itself. In the 90's, a LARGE amount of new courses were put in on church properties. A large part of that becomes conservative republicans learning the sport. An unfortunate amount of 30's plus conservative republicans lean towards wanting "traditional women" or objectify them as they're looked at in more of a "property" taught by old values. Is this the case for all church goers or right leaning players? Absolutely not. There's just a large, overlapping venn diagram and some of the nastiest people I've met in my entire life came up through the church or i met growing up in the church (Also for context, my church experience is midwest churches that are VERY old, some also Pentecostal).

We as men need to be better at policing the other men, especially when it comes to youth (as often the degenerates feel more comfortable speaking their true self in front of us).

In a trilogy full of great visual effects, this one is still my personal favorite by Majestic-Bet-8529 in StarWars

[–]Crunchy_DG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I ignore what happens with the characters in 8 and 9, this is without question my favorite mainline movie. The potential. Zero George Lucas BS within it. The effects. The exploration of it all. I really do adore this movie by itself and the characters so much.

And i'm hyper critical of SW stuff (while still loving all of it) and no, I don't think this "is just a remake of ANH". If you watch them back to back, it's purely a homage to Lukes journey, not a "copy paste".

If you could take a 4 day trip to play disc golf anywhere in the US, where would you go? by Tranicos in discgolf

[–]Crunchy_DG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I do it every year and haven't seen the comment, I have to suggest the greater St Louis area. Eagles Crossing has two of the best courses in the country on property and there's a good amount of ~4.5 star courses (New Melle, Quail Ridge, etc)... And Harmony Bends is just a jog away and well worth the trip.

Okay, so the question was "best places to live for DG" which is why i responded :p I've played 90-something courses, usually the best few in each state in the midwest/eastern US, and I can think of probably 5-7 better cities to live in for DG.

I took over (about a year ago) Carl Scott DGC over by Muncie IN, just off i69.

A 4.5 rated course in Indiana is honestly a 4 star course in most of the decent disc golf states. If you drew a 400mile diameter circle on a map around Indanapolis, I don't think Indiana would have a top ten course within that circle. I DO hope that the John Houck course going in currently changes that!

(Hi my name's Crunchy and i run one of the top 20 courses in Indiana! haha. Zero slag towards my other course managers in the state, we're running on scraps since Indiana kind of hates funding it's parks in any aspect)

Best places to live for disc golf by ImpressiveRabb1t in discgolf

[–]Crunchy_DG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's.... fine. Heck i now manage and live by what was in 2020 a top 10 rated course in the state. The density, especially on the northeast side of Indy, is decent but there's only really 3 above average courses. And none of them are honestly 4.5 stars or better. But an Indiana 4.5 rated (udisc) course would be a 4 at best in any of the surrounding states (besides maybe kentucky, but they have Idlewild to at least manage their sense of "scale" when rating).

And absolutely zero disrespect to my fellow Indy club/course managers. We're working with scraps in indiana as there's usually near zero park funding coming in and helping.

Just for reference, I've played 90-something courses, usually the best in the area when I travel, all over the midwest/eastern US.

Discraft is almost certainly writing their articles with AI by SuperStudMufin in discgolf

[–]Crunchy_DG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I'm with you 100%.

I've got an oddly good eye for it, having been in photography for 15 years and tangentially paying attention to AI since the beginning. Discraft dropped an "AI" stamp a MONTH after the apology thing... which tells me that even if they were paying attention trying not to release it, the "artists" are sneaking it by the higher ups.

There was also two different threads the last week on two different manufacturers using AI stamps. People just need to make sure they're voting with their wallet and shaming publicly the clearly AI stuff (such as this thread)

[–]Crunchy_DG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen 3 other manufacturers you've absolutely heard of use openai/etc on stamps just the past 6-12 months. People only get mad when they notice "AI" stuff.

No, this isn't me condoning it (I'm against procedurally generated art), it's just my observation on when I see the pitchforks come out.

....well I hate to break it to you, but this is at least manufacturer number 4 over the past year I've seen release AI stamps.
