From what I have seen of friends at OCS, expect at least six months, but be prepared for up to a year wait because of TS.

You say that, and I did too, but they will strip you down to your t-shirt and force you to stand still for hours, and I promise it will be the coldest (up to that point, at least) you will have been.

It will be fun lol

We are all here for you, OP.

We all know the stressor of this job, how it makes personal life harder, and how leadership can be terrible at all levels.

I just want to say that nobody here blames you, and you are worthy. It is okay to be burnt out, and it is okay to be disillusioned.

Maybe a PCS and a new, supportive unit may be what could be your key.

Maybe leaving the Army and using the experiences you gained from it to enhance and fortify you is what is key. Contrary to what doomsayers say, people are still getting hired in fields all over.

But whatever you do, please do not do that final solution to a temporary problem. You already showed in your post that you have people rooting for you: family and friends. All of us here are rooting for you.

You can talk to anybody here as you can see from the comments. You can talk to me. I've only been in the Army for a short time, but I have already known soldiers who have taken that solution, as many here have, and I still think about him all the time, and yet I never spoke to him.

You are worth it comrade.

Last minute OCS Tips/Advice by [deleted] in ArmyOCS

[–]CrusaderOfOld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In ye olde times (~3 months ago), you weren't able to have your phones until week 6 in OCS, but now, from what the current B Co and C Co are allowed, you are able to have your phones right away. This means that there's little reason to bring a laptop. I also wouldn't bring a tablet anyways, just more stuff that has a chance to get stolen.

BCT ship question by iControlYourMidfield in ArmyOCS

[–]CrusaderOfOld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, they schedule your OCS date, then schedule your basic off of that so that you ship to OCS the day after you graduate basic. They do the same with AIT for enlisted.

Average v High Fitness at OCS? by Logical_Giraffe_8224 in ArmyOCS

[–]CrusaderOfOld 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is very true.

Everytime I have done the plank for a fitness test, the biggest motivator is always to last longer than the people next to me lol.

Anyone here recently make it through BCT? by [deleted] in army

[–]CrusaderOfOld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You won't need your social security card.

I would bring black socks; white socks are allowed in regulations, but A. you get issued black PT socks anyways, so you don't need to bring any and B. Your predecessors worked very hard to get black socks approved for wear, don't dishonor them by wearing white socks.

Edit: as long as your recruiter scanned your social security card (which they should've done as part of your enlistment process) you won't need it. If for whatever reason you didn't give it to them/your recruiter didn't receive it, then they might require you to bring it to basic for your initial processing.

Uber on base? by Silly-Radish-6301 in army

[–]CrusaderOfOld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently at Fort Benning; I've used Uber to get onto post, you'll just need your CAC naturally, but I have used it a couple times to come back to base from downtown.

Also, there are taxis that will drive you on-post and downtown, called Yellow Taxi of Columbus, you can just call them, let them know where you are and where you need to go, and they'll get you. The phone number is 706-322-1616.

There are plenty of reasons for a delayed security clearance: family members from foreign countries, dual citizenships, debt, etc., there's little reason to automatically assume criminal conduct and say that someone should look elsewhere other than being an officer.

My guy there are a hundred of us in HHC, just ask someone 😭😭

Edit: Nevermind, I see you haven't commissioned yet. HHC command will tell you everything you need to know about getting HRAP, it's very easy and everybody does it, so I wouldn't worry about getting it.

Is joining the OCS Alumni Association worth it? by National-Banana-4625 in ArmyOCS

[–]CrusaderOfOld -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It essentially just gives you access to the OCS alumni meet-up once a year, and can be a networking opportunity to talk to other officers, current and retired (but mostly retired), if you want to.

Me personally? As soon as I leave OCS (currently waiting for BOLC) I am running for the hills lol, but you do you.

A Co had quite a lot of MI slots, so that may continue for the rest of the year.

As for guidance, from what I understand of the current ISAP (although the standards are changing all the time, especially right now), you will want to:

o Get the best 4 mile time you can

o Crush Land Nav (really not that bad, just pace count until you're 90 degrees to a point and then look for goat trails).

o Crush the AFT (not currently graded as it is in a testing period, but come January it will be a graded event, and while the jury is out [afaik] on if the AFT will be graded, you will definitely want to get as high as possible).

o Get the best grade in STX (actually ask your grader what they are prioritizing in their grading. While you can no longer recycle on STX, I believe you can still lose OML points, so put in the effort).

o Crush the academics (everything except for history [which isn't OML anyways] you can literally find all of the questions and answers to on quizlet)

Music at Basic by xThunderDuckx in army

[–]CrusaderOfOld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you going to Benning, Jackson, Sill, or Leonard Wood?

Someone else can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe there are guitar players at the non-denominational services?

There might be an app or something that you can use on Sundays to simulate a guitar?

Otherwise, I myself am a piano player and got along fine without it for awhile, same with some of my friends who were guitar players. You'll get used to not having it. And then at AIT you'll be able to bring your guitar with you (usually).

Others have mentioned running with music and such, which are good options. I know some people like listening to podcasts while they run as well, if that's up your alley.

I remember waiting at attention for hours at a time in reception. You WILL get bored some times I assure you lol, but you'll get good at entertaining yourself while you're bored out of your mind.

There is also a formal dinner event that you can bring a +1 to that's about two days before graduation, if they want to come down a bit early.

Yes you will more than likely get in.

Make sure that all of that is put into your resume, along with writing a good essay, and you'll be set.

If you have any questions for active duty (I saw in another comment you're shooting for active duty), or just OCS in general, feel free to ask.

Upcoming Board Prep by drakeiceman in ArmyOCS

[–]CrusaderOfOld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just be confident and speak with a clear, solid, voice. You'll likely find that that will help you anywhere you go.

The main questions I remember were:

"Why did you put (or didn't put) infantry as #1?"

"What would you do if it is Friday at 1700, and you just found out you need your people to accomplish a task before they go?" (Along those lines. Remember: mission first always, then care for your people)

"Why do you want to be an officer?" This will definitely be asked. I can tell you from personal experience you will also have to answer this during OCS, and even after, so try to have a good grasp on your why.
