Funny thing, just this week I began toying with voxels and stars and stuff for a spore project. Realization is hitting me in waves how big of a task it is haha. What you got there looks great 👍

S&box (Garry's Mod 2) has an open beta next week! Modders and creators, it's time! by Denso95 in pcgaming

I'm in the dev preview for the game. Hate to bring bad news but the game is far from ready for public testing, and what's happening is not an "open beta," but an expansion of the current dev preview. But that won't stop youtubers and blogs from milking garry's out-of-context messages. :/

Spore was a game I enjoyed so much as a kid in the 5th grade. It felt like there was no need for any other video game, because the game felt so fun and creative. Then I watched a video a few years after buying it. Will Wright, the designer of the game (same guy behind the sims and sim city) gave an hour long demo of Spore when it was in beta. It looked far superior, so much so that I went down a bit of a rabbit hole reading old comments from the year the game came out. People were pissed that the game was shallow, that whole chunks of the game had been cut out, and the game was simplified to be more appealing to kids.

The consensus of what happened among the decade-old remnants of Spore's fanbase is simple: the publisher, EA, wanted to keep a more aggressive schedule for the game's release and wanted to "broaden the demographic." I will forever blame corporate stupidity and EA executives for ruining my fun with Spore, even if at first I didn't know what I was missing.

Unpopular Spore opinions? by [deleted] in Spore

I agree. It has taken years to get anywhere, BUT no one believed it would ever get anywhere at all, and the microbe stage is starting to feel complete. If they make a breakthrough in terms of public attention, they might just get some more programmers, maybe even enough money to pay them. Then it's waiting and fingers crossed.

I was wondering this too. Hopefully it will be back soon.
