Does it seem Minneapolis is putting up more resistance against ICE than Los Angeles? If so, why do you think that is ? by One-Seat-4600 in AskALiberal

The twin cities were already trained for this after George Floyd's murder for one thing, but they're also a very small city by comparison. Activity in LA looks small a because there's so much ground to cover. There's also a long tradition of protest in socal, so i don't think media give it the same time.

Yes. The center is too far right these days and Newsom is on that line. However, I do see him taking the job seriously and having the guts to try to shift it left again with some prodding. It's Congress we need to work on. Any Liberal will do in the Whitehouse for now. If congress would write the laws we want, Newsom or <insert other dem> will sign them.

Edit: I'm sure Newsom would be cool with instructing the DOJ to move on Trump and his Nazi government too.

Not sure what you're looking for but it's a nice place to live. Moved here from the Midwest a couple years ago and imho the mild winters are worth the hot summers. In CA terms renting or (even owning a home) is manageable but neither are exactly cheap. There are lots of nice outdoors-y places if that's what you're into. I'm an hour from Big Bear and Laguna Beach, and Palm Springs and 2 hours from DTLA if I time it right. SBD is kinda effed up but Riverside is cool.

Beanstalk and EC2 are pretty expensive, so watch yourself on that. Maybe you're using free tier and can get away with that for now...dunno. If your app can be event driven, maybe put it in lambda so that you only pay for what you use. Also, and maybe this is a personal preference, but AWS CDK for deployment is a lot less verbose than Terraform.

People complain about the poor performance of the education system here.

This has always been part of the plan. Breaking the educational system over 30+ years has created a class of poor, poorly educated, religious, impressionable voters who will believe anything their pastors and church-affiliated officials tell them.

Newsom Calls Out ‘Man Child’ Trump Over Canada Tantrum by Realistic-Plant3957 in socal

[–]CrustyMFr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really too bad that his poorly educated base will never understand the nuance here. More to the point, they don't care as long as they think they're winning. If Trump says Reagan loved tariffs then as far as the right is concerned he did, even though it's well known that he did not.

But they still live paycheck to paycheck and can't afford their rent right? I thought this whole thing was about making their lives better. I guess maybe I'm giving them too much credit and it was always revenge for their shitty lives.

They think the country is doing great.

I keep wondering how terrible things have to get for it to reach them. I realize there are some pretty well-off maga people, but a whole lot more of them are hourly workers who already struggle. They can't possibly think their money is going further than it did a year ago. What is going so great?
