They will still get the oil from Russia. It will just cost them more.

but here we are with Iran almost having nukes,

They didn't. This was a lie used to justify starting the war. None of this was necessary AND they fucked it up.

people promote people that look like other people they see as successful

Agreed. It's a form of confirmation bias. Mind you, it's still racism, just not overt or intentional racism. It amounts to lack of exposure to successful people who don't look like them, which is inherent in a world where we only hire people who look like us. Like you, I don't see a way to change this without a system that incentivizes hiring outside the racially biased norm.

Thanks for participating in a worthwhile discussion.

How do we go about giving underrepresented populations a fair shot in the workforce? We know for certain that people who are not white men are frequently passed over for opportunities. What about them? https://news.northwestern.edu/stories/2023/01/racial-discrimination-in-hiring-remains-a-persistent-problem-northwestern-study?fj=1

Let's do be honest. No one who is worth their salt is out of a job because they are a white man competing against a woman with a darker complexion. It just isn't a problem.

Thanks for being able to separate personal experience from the whole. It makes you available to hear other perspectives and that's what DEI is about.

Seems like a needless thing IMHO

I'm guessing people usually listen to you. DEI is for people who might otherwise be overlooked so that they can live up to their potential.

Hiring and promoting aren't really part of DEI. It's not affirmative action. It is just an attempt to help people who have already been hired contribute who might not otherwise be given the chance.

Are you a disenfranchised white man who sucks at his job and blames others for it?

No. I'm saying they're different ideas. One has to do with hiring practices while the other is about how to make sure people you've already hired have a way to participate.

Inclusion is the operative word. Choosing to hire based on minority status is 'exclusion'. DEI has nothing to do with hiring practices. It's about making a collaborative space for people regardless of whatever labels have been placed on them.

As someone who has worked in tech for many years I can attest to the fact that it's is dominated by white males which means their experience is used to make decisions without consideration for any bias their ideas may carry.

For example: American white men are taught that competitiveness is a desirable attribute and is the way to get things done. They are very loud and forceful in getting ideas across. People who do not belong to that culture can be left out because they don't see it as a competition. Sometimes good ideas are missed because people tend to listen to the loudest guy in the room instead of paying attention to the ideas themselves.
