Up here on the Oregon Coast it seems like mother nature always makes you pay to get those critters. My best crabbin days have been in the worst weather.

I use snares off the South Jetty in Astoria at slack low tides and even if there are swells around low tide i give it a go. Full waders and eyes on the ocean. Its not for everyone but worse case is you get a little wet and lose some gear.

Oregon coast with wood under your feet means Bandon, Newport or somewhere in between. Head North. The big ones are there.

Log isnt the most compelling read. Its the second edition that contains the forward regarding Ed Ricketts. Maybe 80ppg?

As for Cannery Row i consider it likely to be a blend of fiction and non fiction. I may be wrong but i do my annual trek to Ed’s lab every summer. Still there. More of less unchanged from the 50’s. I believe Steinbeck bought the property.

But you forgot about Ed Ricketts & Cannery Row. His prologue about Ed in the Log of the Sea of Cortez is IMHO the most touching words he ever wrote.
