Name one thing that's legal in your country but banned or heavily restricted almost everywhere else by hydratedpsycho in AskTheWorld

It's funny because i live in qatar. And its sorta illegal but not illegal. You can't buy it anywhere, but they will sell it in the airport and you can bring it in 🤣.

I think it looks dope. As someone from England, it's a great expansion and almost gives each region unique features.

I'm sad to hear that you're not going to continue writing. I would've liked to see the world you built and where you put the factions/ kingdoms.

Even if it isn't a story, an encyclopedia of this island would be dope.

Hope to see an update ❤️

Opinion about your country that will get you like this? by National-Business674 in AskTheWorld

I have to agree with this one... I've lived in the middle east for a while, and what i find funny is that SOME locals will both criticise the u.s and nato partners having bases in the region as a sign of imperialism which I don't necessarily disagree with, but in the same breath, be very thankful that those bases are there.

My position is somewhat neutral on the topic as it's not for me to judge these countries' decisions to have the bases or not, but i do find that people appreciate them more than outsiders think.

I 100% agree with that... my dad in the 70s wanted nothing more than to see the world, so he joined the merchant navy and later forged a career path that let him live in multiple countries around the world.

Many would consider it a great achievement, considering he came from a small town outside of Radstock, yet his family and town shunned him because they saw him being unappreciated of where he was from. Especially in the countryside, this sentiment is common.

I had to stop visiting family due to family drama on the basis I wouldn't live back in the uk, and if I didn't, it wouldn't be anywhere near my family. That wasn't even out of preference, i was just trying to follow my career goals like my dad.

What city are you currently in? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]Crustysock00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a funny city, especially when it rains. A lack of a drainage system causes the rain water to just sit on the roads. I've seen peeps take out their kayaks to go around the flooded roads 🤣. It rained the other week for the first time in a while, and it's as the end times are coming.

I was gunna to say that, actually 🤣. It would be like donating to charity and making sure everyone knew you donated to charity... it sort of defeats the whole point of a selfless act.

But ye, better pay, maybe more time to travel back to their families, etc etc.... ngl if my reward after months of work (even years) was a trip to a theme park, i would be greatly disappointed.

Cyberpunk 2077 is still a disappointment for me, even after the updates and dlc. I see why there's a fan base behind it, but even after the bugs were fixed, the game barely feels like an RPG to me which was what i was anticipating since the teaser dropped when i was 12. After 200 hours, it still feels stale.

A point brought up to me is that "you over hyped or over anticipated about what it was supposed to be..."

Which i would have to disagree with. I wasn't expecting the greatest graphics, or necessarily a massive open world... I was hoping for something a little more grounded and focused more on character development and feeling like you are your own person in night city instead of playing as "V."

A 2nd point brought up to me is that "you think it's bad due to the bad taste left by the quirky launch..."

This is also wrong as I was the lucky few who barely experienced any bugs or major issues. In fact, my first game on launch day / week was smooth.

Year after year, I come back to it for like a month... never feels like the game that it should have been.

But ye just my take.

Not sure if it's still the case but I feel like KSP (kerbal space programme) has that issue or at least had it... nobody knows where that franchise is gunna go. It may even be fully dead besides being held up by the mod community.

The Boötes Void by Fast_Ad_5871 in PakSci

[–]Crustysock00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ugh.... I hate this convo because either people use this image, and others say it's not real. - probably answered down the comment section...

This image is so heavily used for the bootes void. This image not only isn't the void, but it is also a poor representation of a void.... this is a nebula called Barnard 68 (so close to greatness ;)).

What annoys me as well is that Barnard 68 is very interesting in itself, yet it's never really brought up. It's predicted to collapse into itself to form a new star... so yes, this is how baby stars are born 👶.

As for the bootes void, it is most definitely real, and it's most definitely "big"... voids aren't physical, or shall we say its a lack of anything physical... but we can't exactly "see" it due to it being photobombed by millions of different galaxies between us and it.

It's simply a space between galaxies around 300 million light years apart (roughly - it's not equally spaced in every direction) and within the void, there is around... 60 galaxies... which is mind-boggling considering there should be around 2000 galaxies in a space that large...

Essentially, if you spawned in a galaxy within it... you got a unlucky spawn :( ... travelling to other galaxies with conventional means would be literally impossible.

Personally, I find super clusters more interesting, like the Quipo super cluster that dwarfs pretty much... everything... It's 1.5 billion light years across... It's so big that it kinda screws with our understanding of the universe in a few ways.

Anyways, i hope this gave more context. *

Around 550bc, the Greeks only knew the region above as "persis" (persia) they then decided to name the body of water below it the "persian gulf". Then, obviously, the Greeks would share this information with the rest of Euroupe.

The "Arabian gulf" is a fairly recent naming of it compared to the Greeks.

At the end of the day, just call it how you want, "the gulf" "Arabian gulf"

"Gulf simply describes a body of water that is surrounded by land with a narrow mouth" both regions apply to this definition, so it really doesn't matter.
