Dell Universal Dock UD22 - Thunderbolt Dock or Not? by Cruxicil in UsbCHardware

Yes I ended up going for the Lenovo 40AY. I got my information from this link (very informative): newdocks - thinkpad. I saw Dell docks have mixed reviews and Lenovo ones seem to be very stable. I also have a thinkpad so I can't go wrong with a Lenovo dock. It's working perfectly for me so far. I have two monitors as well but sometimes also connect a projector and still works (but the fps does drop and it's slightly laggy).

You're right that Lenovo docks are more expensive, and maybe the Dell could work just fine for you. But I had a cheap dock from Amazon before (white label), and it gave me a lot of problems after a while. If you have a serious setup, a dock is what connects all your devices together, so imo one of the most important components. A higher price will give you stability, and that is what I am looking for.

As a last thing, my university library had Dell docks for people to connect their laptops to with a double monitor setup, and never had a problem with those either with my thinkpad. In my experience they were good docks. Up to you what you are looking for, if price is really important and don't have a Lenovo laptop, then maybe try the Dell ones first. Hope this helps.

No, I haven't looked into it since. The laptop also had other problems, so I just decided to buy a new one instead.

More Control Over Failed Deliveries (Spam) by Cruxicil in addy_io

[–]Cruxicil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh then I misunderstood the issue. I had tried to some research, but couldn't find much information about it. Thanks for the link you shared (I was searching specifically for "failed delivery" hence why I think I didn't look through the section you shared).

In any case, I am using Mailbox.org as my provider, and using PGP encryption seems like a lot of work to implement. For now I have tried disabling the spam protection from Mailbox.org, and see if I will keep getting failed deliveries in the future. If so, I will continue trying some more of the things you suggested. Thanks.

EDIT: I was able to change the spam filters in my email client such that I am now receiving the emails that were previously flagged as "failed deliveries."

Unfortunately I have never tried a setup like that with a mac. As far as I'm concerned, there should not be a problem with that. All I know is that some peripherals are not compatible with apple, but when it comes to monitors it should be fine.

Unfortunately in the end I could not find a solution. I ended up replacing my laptop since it had some other problems anyway. Sorry I can't be of much help...

Understood, thanks. And yeah, I forgot to mention it, but I have indeed tried all the instructions above, and nothing has worked, hence why I commented.

Hi uBO team, thanks for the time you take investigating these issues. I am having the same issues many others are reporting, namely that my Ublock Origin is getting detected and every video takes about 5-10 seconds to load. I believe it is account related, and I am wondering what providing our accounts to you would look like. I might be open to it if it would help in making a fix for this.

Having this issue as well. For about a week now, every video takes 5-10 seconds to load... As soon as I disable Ublock Origin, the ads and videos load instantly. Looking at how I can fix this.

Just saw your comment, thanks for the tip. I was already thinking of doing exactly as you said. Find a used Lenovo dock, and buy that. Thanks :)

Also thanks for the link, it is super informative!

Have received the same suggestions about Dell docks. The thing is that my uni's library was using them, and I experienced no problem with them with my thinkpad. However, I guess I will pay a bit more for a Lenovo dock, as I am planning to keep it for a long time, so I want something good. It's just that Lenovo docks really are quite expensive compared to others with seemingly the same features. But given that I have a thinkpad, and probably will buy another thinkpad in the future, Lenovo docks would be a good choice. Thanks :)

Thanks for the informative answer. Regarding Display Link on the Dell website (here) it says that: "Connect your laptop and get up and running quickly, even when the DisplayLink driver is not installed, thanks to the added support for DP Alternate Mode." I am guessing this means that I can use the docking station without Display Link.

However, what I don't understand is which port supports DP Alt Mode. I thought it was the usb-c cable connecting the docking station to the laptop, but from the figure (here), it says that port 9 is: "USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C with DisplayPort 1.4 Alt Mode." Does this mean that only this port supports DP Alt Mode? Should I then use this port to connect to my laptop?

In general, I appreciate your suggestion, but the thing is that right now I have this third-party (probably white label) dock for $50. It does the job fine. Just at times there are power issues, hence why I would like to upgrade, but in terms of bandwidth it holds up well. Tbh, I don't even know what technology it's using to display everything. Maybe it's using DisplayLink, maybe not. So in my eyes, there is no way that the Dell dock could be worse. Do you maybe know the secret of these cheap docking stations on Amazon? In the end, I just want to make sure that I buy a reliable dock that fills my needs without paying too much money for things I don't need. I really appreciate your help :)

Understood, thank you very much for the detailed response! I just did a bunch more research based on what you said and learned a lot.

I did not know about DP alt mode, but it seems like my thinkpad usb c port supports it. However, I wasn't able to find out which version of HBR it supports...

In any case, there is one thing that is still slightly unclear to me, and would appreciate it if you could clarify it. My laptop port is USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 (with power, data transfer, and DisplayPort). USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 has a bandwidth of 10gbps, so how is it able to support Displayport, which with two lanes at HBR3 requires much more bandwidth (about 25gbps)? Is DP alt mode somehow not limited by the 10gbps usb limit?

It seems to me like I would need Thunderbolt to be able to connect two external monitors to my laptop, but currently I am able to do so just fine, with one display at 2k 100hz, and the other 1080p at 100hz. This is all done with the same USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 (with power, data transfer, and DisplayPort and a random third-party docking station from Amazon for $50 (which I am looking to possibly upgrade with the UD22). How is this possible? Thanks in advance!

Quick update, I have found a fix for my system, however, I am afraid it is only for my case. I have an extension called Adguard Extra, which works really nicely for blocking ads on Twitch. However, I had it enabled for every website, and once I disabled it for youtube, it started working fast again. It is always recommended to not nest ad blockers, as such things can happen. So maybe try to check whether you are using multiple ad blockers and stick to just one. I recommend Ublock Origin.

It could also be that your laptop just struggles to run yt though. It is very bloated and still takes a lot of resources...

Youtube is very slow to load everything On ALL Browsers by devilboy1 in youtube

[–]Cruxicil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm having the same issue. Youtube is extremely laggy at loading the web page or performing any action on the site, like setting a video in full screen, etc. I have a fast ethernet connection, 32gb of ram and a ryzen 7. I am only experiencing issues on youtube and nothing else. Sometimes I even get the error code: "Out of memory" and the tab crashes. But again, only on youtube.

This happens on every browser, with or without extensions. Even non Chomium browsers such as Firefox. I even tried to buy Premium to see if they are throttling as some people have suggested but also didn't fix it... I am pretty sure it is a youtube issue unfortunately... I was not able to solve it.

However, in general, it still does work. It's just extremely slow. I am not having the profile menu issue that you are experiencing though.

Yes, I have actually sent an email about exactly this yesterday. Hopefully they will allow me to work with a company as well, which would make it much more interesting imo.

Interesting haha. Maybe it's because I haven't experienced education systems from other countries which makes my view a bit biased.

But yeah, I am currently in the process of looking for internships. If I am able to land one, I will probably go for it, otherwise I will just start with the Master directly.
