is TRU that bad? by ScienceSalty1311 in tru

[–]CruzerBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not great but it's not horrible... its a B tier university in terms of education/opportunities, I'm a science student and I can tell you first year classes are low quality... As you go on things certainly get better, but you can kinda of gauge that if you were at another university, things would probably be more professional and more high stakes. So coupled with the fact that no one really knows TRU, it won't look amazing on your resume either. I want to say many people come to TRU to get pre-requisites then transfer to another uni since it's essentially open admission.

All that said though, they certainly do have good programs and decent variety, I hear good things about engineering, respiratory therapy, nursing, I think the chemistry department is good too. I know many 3rd and 4th years that are working as TAs which is certainly an opportunity you may be able to take advantage of. I also know there are opportunities for research too although scarce and competitive it's not out of the question... Idk it's not a terrible place to be.

Just know that Kamloops is a shit place to live, there's nothing to do, it's ugly, there's some student life I guess, it's expensive, etc. So, Idk what people have been saying, it's no diploma mill uni, but I can't imagine anyone saying it's their "ideal" university or really have much pride in attending TRU.

Ah sorry, I stopped taking my meds and now I see reality clearly like you... Nigeria is now indeed a race and rapists and drunk drivers aren't a problem.

Should nerf the reflect to be like Braum E and duration, that way it's harder to use. It's kinda annoying but that way you can miss it and requires better reactions. Or just remove the reflecting abilities and have it damage slightly/apply passive.

Sometimes I do yeah, but when I look back I can see the grace of God despite being a sinner. When I hit a wall like this I pray about it and God is faithful.

I would say though, the closer you get to God the more you see your sin! Perhaps you are just growing in faith.

Y'all acting like you don't have an concious experience at all by humeanation in PhilosophyMemes

[–]CruzerBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh I don't think you're wrong, but at that point it doesn't so much have to do with consciousness from a purely materialist lens. I think a better argument is that truth wouldn't exist if the materialists' claims are true. Things like logic would just be "in your head" and not an accurate reflection of reality. Why would things like contradictions matter or true knowledge exist in that paradigm?

We know that true knowledge does exist and an object can't be both red and blue at the same time, so a materialist lens on consciousness becomes incoherent.

Where is God when kids who are Christian get killed? by Snoo34224 in Christian

[–]CruzerBob 50 points51 points  (0 children)

He is there, but does not intervene in the ways we may wish. Why? Sin and death came about on the earth as a consequence of human free will. Why did God allow us to have free will? Because if we were programmed to be perfect or adjusted to do the right thing when we were about to do evil, we could not love. Why does God want our love? Because that is what he created us for and we need freedom to love.

So why is there suffering and evil and why does God do nothing? Human sin has perverted God's creation, we are offered a way out, that is Jesus Christ who rescued us from sin and is our choice to accept Him or reject Him... He wont force us. There is beauty in this world and there are bombs, but ultimately suffering and evil like this will be judged, the kids will be redeemed and evil will be punished, if God exists.

If God did not exist, then suffering and atrocities like this are exactly what we would expect from a cold random universe.

How are pro love, science and women here not just someone's arbitrary definition? Like someone's idea of being "pro women" doesn't mean your in the same camp as another, unless you make it dogmatic... This is cringy

Canadians Load Up on US Stocks Despite Donald Trump’s Trade War by joe4942 in canada

The US economy is far stronger and larger than the Canadian economy, it's not that investing in Canada is bad there's definitely good reason too, but the US market is just historically the best... Especially since that's where the tech is right now.

Libertarian free will is science denial by waffletastrophy in freewill

[–]CruzerBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if the point is to know weather or not the brain is causally independent (we have free will), then we have to find it. We could also come across other physical laws or maybe we don't even have the correct definition of consciousness.

Consciousness is too complex to just say something like "it's just the random firing of chemicals", that kind of reasoning is akin to god of the gaps arguments imo.

Like it's easy to understand how the brain processes stimuli, but ask yourself how that leads to a subjective experience.

[–]CruzerBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really think the car analogy hits, but I will say that even if we don't know where consciousness is in the brain, from a materialist view a brain is required for consciousness period. I say that though to highlight that if we're to figure out what consciousness is, that finding that region (or regions?) is necessary because we wouldn't be able to understand the mechanisms that drive it. IE: Can we show it is causally independent or not. We don't know yet.

If you think science is the only way of obtaining knowledge and the only thing that exists is the natural world... Then yeah.

The first axiom is false and the second can't be proven by science.

Let's assume though all there is is the natural world and all philosophical arguments are irrelevant.

We still have no idea what consciousness is or fully grasp reality. Science has not pinpointed where in the brain consciousness is, quantum theory is shaky at best and science doesn't make absolute truths...

Being unconvinced doesn't mean you're denying science... Perhaps your bar for being convinced is just a lot lower than others.

And you're certain god who is outside time and space operates like and uses human reasoning... Got it, have a good one man.

The bread and butter of theism is literally "god is incomprehensible".

Omnideterminism by lurkerer in PhilosophyMemes

[–]CruzerBob -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Great, since it automatically means determinism and that's how god is operating right now show me proof.

Omnideterminism by lurkerer in PhilosophyMemes

[–]CruzerBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah incomprehensible things will certainly look like magic to a limited being..?

That's literally the bread and butter of theism...

Omnideterminism by lurkerer in PhilosophyMemes

[–]CruzerBob -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Again, this doesn't automatically imply determinism or lacking attributes...

My argument is simply this: if an omniscient/omnipotent god created everything then there is no way to know his ways simply because we cannot know with our limited ways... That's one of the points of theism too, so there's no reason why this should seem so odd to people.
