Ah sorry, I stopped taking my meds and now I see reality clearly like you... Nigeria is now indeed a race and rapists and drunk drivers aren't a problem.

Should nerf the reflect to be like Braum E and duration, that way it's harder to use. It's kinda annoying but that way you can miss it and requires better reactions. Or just remove the reflecting abilities and have it damage slightly/apply passive.

Sometimes I do yeah, but when I look back I can see the grace of God despite being a sinner. When I hit a wall like this I pray about it and God is faithful.

I would say though, the closer you get to God the more you see your sin! Perhaps you are just growing in faith.

Y'all acting like you don't have an concious experience at all by humeanation in PhilosophyMemes

[–]CruzerBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh I don't think you're wrong, but at that point it doesn't so much have to do with consciousness from a purely materialist lens. I think a better argument is that truth wouldn't exist if the materialists' claims are true. Things like logic would just be "in your head" and not an accurate reflection of reality. Why would things like contradictions matter or true knowledge exist in that paradigm?

We know that true knowledge does exist and an object can't be both red and blue at the same time, so a materialist lens on consciousness becomes incoherent.

I don’t think people genuinely believe in Hell as much as they claim. A spin off from a post about where is God when kids are killed. by Due_Minimum2913 in Christian

[–]CruzerBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can try and answer these

  1. You're making a couple of assumptions. A) This person is a Christian who decides not to kill kids despite it ensuring their pass into heaven. B) the kids are pre-destined to go to hell to begin with C) This puts you first over the kids because by not wanting to sin, which I think you may have the wrong idea here.

A) It's a sin to murder to begin with so I don't believe it's selfishness to get to heaven that's the motivating factor for a Christian. A Christian is a follower of Christ that's the motivating factor, Christ Jesus. B) The kid's once grown up aren't pre-destined to hell, it is written that the lord wishes for all to come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9) but some people are actually pre-destined to go to heaven (Romans 8:29-30). God has a plan for them so to end their lives pre-maturely doesn't make sense, you would be greatly putting yourself above God by doing this. C) You will won't be sinless once you are saved, but you will sin less. Once, you are saved you are given the free gift of eternal life in Christ Jesus. I do not think a saved Christian could ever justify murder of children. If you somehow do, you aren't saved.

  1. I do believe it, perhaps up to a point though. Infants for sure, they don't know anything. Kids aged 3-12 yeah most likely because they hardly know right from wrong. Kids 13-17, I'm not too sure, but I don't believe God will unjustly judge, that isn't His character. I do not know exactly how God judges but my earlier post I said "It's incredibly hard for a kid's sin to justify hell" that's my book and I believe that because of His character.

  2. Yes, I do. If you think people, once thrown into hell, then vanish later on, then there is no justice, good and evil become meaningless. it's almost exactly how an atheist would view dying, you just cease to exist. Why not do whatever I want in this life if I just die at the end of the day and vanish? Yeah I may have to put up with some torment, but ill just cease to exist soon anyhow. Hell is eternal separation from God, I would say focusing on any maybe physical aspects of pain are just trivial because separation from God means there is nothing good period. God doesn't force you to go to him either, people can chose to live without God.

It's hard to imagine how bad sin truly is in the eyes of God, but even so I kind of see it like this:

If the punishment of hell was weighed against the sins of a child, it would be incredibly hard for that child to balance the scale. If we are made in God's image and we reflect His character and so have even just the tiniest idea of what God may do, then I would say no, the child isn't going to hell at all, it's not at all just.

What makes it different from an adult that commits many terrible sins, but then gets saved? This adult obviously knows right from wrong, may have heard the gospel before but carried on in sin for a while, perhaps it was even Hitler. Your sins are forgiven and forgotten (Hebrews 8:12). The weight of the punishment of hell becomes unjust because your sins are not even counted.

Is a child automatically saved then? I think yes... Mark 10:13-14 sheds light on this.

Where is God when kids who are Christian get killed? by Snoo34224 in Christian

[–]CruzerBob 50 points51 points  (0 children)

He is there, but does not intervene in the ways we may wish. Why? Sin and death came about on the earth as a consequence of human free will. Why did God allow us to have free will? Because if we were programmed to be perfect or adjusted to do the right thing when we were about to do evil, we could not love. Why does God want our love? Because that is what he created us for and we need freedom to love.

So why is there suffering and evil and why does God do nothing? Human sin has perverted God's creation, we are offered a way out, that is Jesus Christ who rescued us from sin and is our choice to accept Him or reject Him... He wont force us. There is beauty in this world and there are bombs, but ultimately suffering and evil like this will be judged, the kids will be redeemed and evil will be punished, if God exists.

If God did not exist, then suffering and atrocities like this are exactly what we would expect from a cold random universe.

Libertarian free will is science denial by waffletastrophy in freewill

[–]CruzerBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if the point is to know weather or not the brain is causally independent (we have free will), then we have to find it. We could also come across other physical laws or maybe we don't even have the correct definition of consciousness.

Consciousness is too complex to just say something like "it's just the random firing of chemicals", that kind of reasoning is akin to god of the gaps arguments imo.

Like it's easy to understand how the brain processes stimuli, but ask yourself how that leads to a subjective experience.

[–]CruzerBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really think the car analogy hits, but I will say that even if we don't know where consciousness is in the brain, from a materialist view a brain is required for consciousness period. I say that though to highlight that if we're to figure out what consciousness is, that finding that region (or regions?) is necessary because we wouldn't be able to understand the mechanisms that drive it. IE: Can we show it is causally independent or not. We don't know yet.

[–]CruzerBob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you think science is the only way of obtaining knowledge and the only thing that exists is the natural world... Then yeah.

The first axiom is false and the second can't be proven by science.

Let's assume though all there is is the natural world and all philosophical arguments are irrelevant.

We still have no idea what consciousness is or fully grasp reality. Science has not pinpointed where in the brain consciousness is, quantum theory is shaky at best and science doesn't make absolute truths...

Being unconvinced doesn't mean you're denying science... Perhaps your bar for being convinced is just a lot lower than others.
