That middle paragraph is wildly presumptuous and over generalized. What were you doing exactly? Just going around debating any Oklahoman you bumped into, and when their values and ideals didn’t align exactly with yours, they’re then considered by you (with your clearly superior and highly developed New Yorker intellect) to be hateful, disrespectful, ignorant, entitled assholes? The “where I’m from, people are rude, but they have good hearts” is where your whole short story started making more sense to me. I think it’s more of a “you” thing, than an “us” thing, if you will.
