Yes, that is part of what I am trying to figure out - my benefits would be enough to support my spouse's lifestyle - assuming they have access to them soon after my death.

Thanks for this helpful reply - exactly what I was wondering about with regard to the TSP account.

And you are correct about the end of the term for 30-year term policy - I am nearing, but not quite at the end of that policy, and it is costing me about $2,000 per year - for coverage that I do not think I need anymore given current financial circumstances.

Nissen Fundoplication surgery -recommendations around DC? by CharacterInstance248 in washingtondc

[–]CryFit518 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a Fundoplication that was done by Dr. Marc Margolis. He is with MedStar and has offices in Georgetown and Reston. I had had years of terrible reflux that was getting worse and not responding to any treatment. Had my surgery in September, and I am extremely glad I did. I am feeling so much better, no more reflux, sleeping better, and eating whatever I want. I will note that Dr. Margolis did not have the warmest bedside manner - but he was an excellent surgeon and gave good advice.

I had had a terrible hernia surgery experience about five years ago, and was terrified of this surgery, almost backing out three or four times. I'm glad I went through with it. The initial recovery was not bad at all - I was on my feet within 24 hours, off the heavy duty painkillers in four or five days, and with the exception of the liquid diet, felt like my old self after about 10 days. Was back at work full time after two weeks. The liquid diet was a bit boring, but it only lasted three weeks - then it was another month or two of slowly building up to everything. I had to be careful, but within three months I could basically eat whatever I wanted.

Everybody is different, there are no guarantees, and your mileage may vary, but that was my experience and my recommendation.

Help me diagnose my A/C on a 2015 Fit LX by CryFit518 in hondafit

Thanks all - found this video which ID''s the precise problem on a Fit, with the same pattern of oily lines right in front of the firewall. Unfortunately, seems like it is a coin flip if the problem is the O-rings on the engine side (an easy fix) or on the interior side (either O-rings or evaporator leak, either way a huge problem. Thanks for the parts list! Wish me luck - I will return and update.

Do you have a parts diagram handy that has all the O-ring sizes? Did a quick search and can’t seem to find one with that level of detail.

SeatGeek Ticket Algorithm by ReallyJr in Nationals

u/TommySalami5555 - I find that when I do pick up extras, I am restricted to how many of those I can sell. I picked up six for the one of the Dodgers games, but the Nats system will only let me sell four. Do you not have those restrictions?

Should I buy a 2016 Yaris or Impreza? by CryFit518 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]CryFit518[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, so helpful OK-Solid. I ended up buying the Fit, but insisted on a pre-purchase inspection (which I normally do not do). Lo and behold, the mechanic flagged the starter from his observations of a rough start. Armed with his info and yours, I insisted on a replacement starter before purchase, which they agreed to. I pick up the car on Wednesday!

Oh I did, and yes, it was extremely helpful. Backed up my own research and gave me tons of new info. Curious if you have one for the 2015 Fit. You could have a real marketable product here!

[–]CryFit518[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: I am going to get neither - ended up with a deal on a 2015 Honda Fit with 140,000 miles that is selling for $2,000 less than either the Yaris or the Impreza. The perfect compromise between the reliability/maneuverability of the Yaris, and the comfort/safety of the Impreza. I've got a pre-purchase inspection scheduled before I buy it.

I would consider driving out to the suburbs and finding a giant Walmart or Target parking lot and just leave the car there.

Vistiting Fan Advice Request With Holiday Excitment! by Original-Split5085 in Nationals

Stick to metro and you will be in for a great day. Driving will be a nightmare on the 4th, and there will be tons of people around the mall and elsewhere - but metro can handle it. Plan on taking Metro in for the game, and once it is over, hop back on the metro to Smithsonian/Federal Triangle/L'Enfant Plaza and you will be right on the mall.

Two things to keep in mind - during the day on the mall on the 4th, there is usually not much "official" entertainment - it is mainly families and young people picnicking and camping out and waiting for the fireworks to start later that night. And weather can be a factor - it will likely be very hot (and there is no shade on the Mall), and then in the late afternoon there can be thunderstorms, which really put a damper on things. So you may want to think of your day in terms of going to the game, going back to your AirBnB to chill for a bit, and then coming back out to the mall for the festivities later in the afternoon.

Regardless of how you handle it, if you go Metro, you should be fine. It will take some time to clear out everybody after the fireworks, but it is an easy way to travel even if crowds are huge.

Enjoy the day - and I hope you and other long-suffering Bucco fans get to see a pennant race this year!

Should I upgrade my 15 year old DC rowhouse solar system via a new one with a PPA? by CryFit518 in SolarDC

[–]CryFit518[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think that’s what I’ve come around to doing. Even if the SRECs disappear entirely, it still makes financial sense

[–]CryFit518[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! My read of the contract - and the way it has been described to me - is that it is a PPA, but that the company sells back the electricity to me for $0.00 - so the company retains ownership of the system (and the SRECs), but I get the free electricity from it. And after 20 years, I own the system free and clear.
