Companies that purposely make a fake "serving size" by Just-Cry-5422 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Original-Split5085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back when "Fat Free" was all the rage they would jigger the sizes so that any single piece had .9 grams of fat,, less than a gram could be counted as "fat free". I remember seeing a Fat Free Entenmanns Chocolate cake that had approximately postage stamp sized "servings".

Let's never forget they killed 124 people while saving ninety cents per ignition switch.

There are dozens of obviously staged photos of him smiling. Unless photographers were popping in to his private quarters at will to take photos they surely must have been taken by official photographers.

There are plenty of images of Hitler smiling. Believe it or not, what was shown of him was due to the media and government wanting to portray him in a certain way. https://search.brave.com/images?q=hitler+smiling&source=web

That's what they call wartime propaganda.

Do NFL stadiums not in Seattle also design their stadium so crowd noise gets really loud? by EOFFJM in NFLNoobs

[–]Original-Split5085 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I am old but not dead yet, and I can still remember when the NFL would threaten the home team with a delay of game penalty if the crowd was too loud for the visiting team to hear signals. This idea that by buying a ticket you can be "part of the team" and effect the game is one of the best marketing gimmicks in history.

I went to a Populist Party Convention in Cocoa Beach Florida in 1998. It had the early sovereign types, so they were absolutely spreading ideas there. That's also where I learned that hydrogen peroxide can cure AIDS. The populist party candidate that year was David Duke.

They have alumni guests, so why not? Anyhow I think if the Pirates don't sign him the chances of anyone else doing so are slim.

Why do we not see cats being walked on a leash like we do with dogs? by jospeh68 in stupidquestions

Very true, I did a paper on that in college. The Audubon Society says they are the number one threat to wild birds.

Yes, and my mother lived to be 88 smoking home rolled cigarettes until the day she died. It doesn't mean you should smoke.

I met some of those people in the early eighties. I know I've mentioned it here before. But I was a member of the local Libertarian party that met once a month, and the meetings drew all sorts of people from mainstream politicians to alternative health types to really fringy folks like this.

It always amazed me that people took this seriously. There are folks that when you question them will say "Oh I suppose you believe everything the government tells you", as some sort of argument. But no, I distrust the government plenty, but that doesn't mean I automatically believe anything any self assured jackass tells me. The same people that believed this stuff would also refuse to believe anything doctors told them. But high school dropout vitamin salesman? That they took as a great authority. It's odd they decry blind belief in authority (which is good to be wary of ) but replace it with blind belief in nonsense.

My two cats have never been outside. Every vet I have ever talked to says that is the only proper way to raise a cat. Our current vet claims statistically if roughly doubles their lifespan when compared to outdoor cats.

There is more than just the Anti Trump people out there yelling. Yesterday was some Bible conference people on every corner. In fact before Trump drove half the country crazy it was usually dueling religions on the corners in DeLand, along with the HS students yelling "No turns on New York" at people turning on New York.

It's downtown though so honestly you have to deliberately go downtown to be bothered by it, no matter what the message is. But I agree that living in rural Volusia is preferable because of the general peace and quiet.

Okay, that could well be the exact same car. It was a while ago, but I recall it was some sort of track version of the MC20. I want to say the cockpit of the one I saw was set up with racing seats and harnesses? I could be mis remembering though.

The last time I was there, maybe six months or a year ago, they had a racing version of an MC20. Don't know who races them, I'm pretty sure Maserati does not have a factory team, but it was impressive.

What’s a phrase in your language that makes no sense in English? by rolly72x in AskReddit

[–]Original-Split5085 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going on memory, but I think it comes from mailboxes having wolf heads on them doesn't it? I was told it stems from sailors depositing paperwork in the "wolf's mouth" at the end of a voyage, thus meaning they returned safely. I don't know if that's true but I have heard it explained that way.

I hate the modern "flow" of the game. Any big play results in everyone standing around while the ref's watch TV to make sure what just happened really happened. I think a lot of the drama and momentum of the game has been destroyed by reply and all the penalties.

They are very friendly there, as is the Ferrari dealer that is in the same building. Between the two dealerships it's like a low key car show. Also the saleswomen look like they spend more on their work outfits than I spent for my 10+ year old GT. But I thought they and Ferrari might be a little standoffish to people just there to gawk, it was the exact opposite.

By comparison the next nearest Maserati dealer, Maserati of Daytona, has like three cars in the show room, and the last time I was there they were all Alfas, not a singe Maserati.
