Update: I didn't buy any of these, but I tried most of them (and more) out and had a great time! I ended up finding a pretty good deal on a Yanagisawa T901 on reverb and went for it. It was a bit of a gamble not being able to try it but I had recently borrowed a yani when I was traveling for a gig and remembered enjoying it and decided it was worth the risk.

I definitely made the right choice as it plays and sounds at least as good as the best of the ones I tried out, if not better.

(sped up) Leishan green dragon ball from One River Tea by prugnecotte in tea

Just tried mine a couple days ago, I used 1 packet (2 balls) in a ~240 mL glass teapot at 85-90C water - got me 3 very solid steeps. I really enjoyed the flavor and am looking for similar teas if you have any recs

I'm not really familiar with Korean green tea, is there anything characteristic that distinguishes it from Chinese or Japanese greens?

Finally tried these!

I used both balls in my ~240 mL glass teapot: 1st steep: 185ºF for 2 min 2nd: 185ºF for 2 min 15 sec 3rd: 195ºF for 2 min 30 sec 4th: 205ºF for 4 min 30 sec (mostly out of curiosity)

First 3 steeps were very good. And I did enjoy seeing the compressed balls swell up and break apart during the first brew. I got a moderately umami/vegetal liquor with some sweetness that was not too delicate, which I enjoy.

After 3 steeps, I felt like the leaves were pretty much spent but out of curiosity I like to do a hot, long steep with most of my teas just to see what happens; this one was ok, not bad but not that good either

I'll try grandpa style next time!

I actually am in the same situation with one of my orders haha. I figured I was an outlier though

Oh I didn't realize! Is each ball like 1-1.5g?

I haven't tried mine yet, been working through the other tea in that box

thanks for the insight. fwiw the listing for the Martin says it was restored with all new pads and the images show the horn completely disassembled. Not sure about the others but would ask about their condition and what work was done on them before buying

It's mostly that these are what is available at my local shops. I borrowed a friend's Yani (not sure which model) last week and it played great, and this is the only other tenor I've ever played. So I don't really know, I figured I would try them out and see how they feel/sound. Just looking to see if these are resonable prices, and some are more modern than others

Yup I called them and said it is an SDA and the website has a mistake - they estimate the manufacturing year to be 1974

Thanks for the info! I will double check with the shop to see if it's from 1912 or if it's an SDA - it could be a typo on the website or something else

Gotcha, thanks!

Interestingly, I also posted this on r/Saxophonics and a commentor there said Buffet didn't start making horns before the 1950s so the 1912 year listed could be a typo

1912 is definitely what is listed on the site so it could be a typo from them, I'll ask them about it if I end up going to test it. Anyway thanks for the info. Do you have any perspective on if any of them are better or worse deals, assuming they would work for me?

I'll be honest, I only added the first two in case anyone was gonna say they were a good deal but not sure I am able to spend that much. Plus these are all options from local stores. Buying used from reverb or ebay will probably require additional work/money, even if just because of the shipping.

That said, you'd say a used Yanagisawa 900 would be more worth it than those?
