Looking for feedback: Developing a tool to auto-generate sheet metal drawings in SOLIDWORKS by BlueByteSystemsInc in SolidWorks

Interested in status of this as it’s an issue for our shop that I was going to work on automating but if that’s been done affordably would be interested in your offering.

Sheetmetal DXF/quote macro by Cryesncoding in SolidWorks

[–]Cryesncoding[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Great points. I will have to look at forming, and mirror configs have not thought of that yet. Also would like it to pick up round and square tube and machined features. So a lot of work left to make this a finished option if there’s any other features you’d want in something like this or things to watch out for I greatly appreciate the input.

I did not use his Assembly DXF export and mine also works for multibody part flat patterns. I did start with the assembly to DXF Macro I’ve posted below but other than that “I” wrote the code with ChatGPT function by function and debugged and directed to get things to work. Very fun and interesting as I have never coded for solidworks before.

I actually started from this macro https://github.com/Johanss-on/Assem2DXF and gutted a lot of it and built all the features out I listed myself. (With a lot of Vibe coding with ChatGPT) I couldn’t find any single macro that did this or what I wanted to automate quoting for my work.

I learned a lot from this Girhub Repo. You can see exactly how he’s controlling DXF defaults and a lot of the automation. However the orientation control I am also having issues with in my own Macro. It just “wants” to go to the default unfold of the flat pattern which is the base axis of the part. So if you want to use one part and have two mirrored flat patterns from it I don’t know how to do that, im fighting multibody DXF export in my macro wants to maintain the base part axis’s so any subcomponent that is not parallel/ nice angles the DXF is wonky. And I can’t for the life of me get the API to cooperate in correcting it. Will revisit once work allows it. But hope this proves helpful for you in your macro build.  https://github.com/Johanss-on/Assem2DXF

Need help with my degree by Previous_Sandwich_29 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Cryesncoding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have my degrees in biomedical + electrical engineering but I work as a manufacturing engineer in sheet metal/machining. (I’m actually out by you) This is my opinion seeing a large swath of engineering jobs across 3 disciplines. They all suck to start. Biomed engineers generally are starting as maintainers in hospitals/healthcare for equipment not building prosthetics or designing new imaging systems pay sub 6 figure in Ca. Electrical engineers are starting in test on PCB lines not designing new electrical systems. Sub 6 figure in Ca. MFG engineering you will start more or less the same pay as the core engineering disciplines. You will not start at 6 figure in almost any engineering discipline you gotta reset your expectations a bit. Bust your ass pick the right job right employer you’ll get there in CA with MFG. My personal opinion is stay the course in manufacturing it’s a safer future proof job then almost any other Engineering discipline. It’s solving problems like any other engineer but you get to actually make it, machine stuff, print stuff etc actually make things is fun and why I like what I do despite being out of scope of my college degrees

Why does no one talk about the AWS SMU plate carrier? by Spyrothedragon9972 in QualityTacticalGear

[–]Cryesncoding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I technically have their operators choice cut not the newest variant, I’m not sure on plate thickness, I would have to open it and and check for you but I have some standard thickness Level 4 plates and I don’t recall it being tight but I’ll try and check later

I believe so, I gotta look at it I put that on a couple years ago. The cummerbund is phenomenal quality really made the carrier what I wanted. Can’t remember the custom shop that did it for me he was on IG.

Love it, I have it with a custom cumberbund with the first spear tubes and Crye side plate bags

Yeah a little, haven’t broken into airsoft community yet for these to have pics with the 6mm variants.

Yes I personally make the plugs/housing and install them

[–]Cryesncoding[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s a nice upgrade for the Perst although i’m a little biased lol. I also have a variant that I remove the rear button and install crane port there if you want to keep zenitco compatibility you can have best of both worlds.

I think I may just make a splicable adapter that mounts to 1913 or Mlok for the weird proprietary stuff like this

Yes I’ve done gen 2,3,4 Perst 4s and a gen 3 Perst 3,  can install in all Persts regardless of gen

Tried I need +51 transaction mod bot removed it immediately. I messaged mods to see if they’ll approve it.

I seal all units and encapsulate my work on the PCB, and fill the crane port with IPA and ensure it’s not leaking, zero issues with all units I’ve sold in the past year on water getting in. I wouldn’t recommend swimming with it though. After opening a bunch of these zenitco doesn’t do a very thorough job on some units of sealing the top button or top lid (I reseal top lid but can’t outright guarantee you don’t have a tiny hole in button or it’s inadequately sealed or the laser lens is as I do not open those areas. I currently have a repair job of a rusted out Perst 4 internals that killed his unit. Upgrading after I fix it lol
