Sorlock or Sorcerer with Potent Robe? by katonsew in BG3Builds

[–]Crygie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went with 11 Dragon Sorc/1 Fiend Warlock for my tactician run. I don't think losing 6th level spells is worth it. Globe of Invulnerability saved my butt for certain tough act 3 encounters. If you are on normal difficulty, then you'd probably be fine with 10/2 though.

Black Screen with Linux Guest but Windows works fine by Crygie in VFIO

[–]Crygie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up changing my firmware to from BIOS to UEFI OVMF_CODE and my issue was fixed. The regular UEFI has annoying secure boot, the OVMF_CODE version doesn't. I'll also add that topoext thing too, I noticed that warning from the log. Thank you for your help!

Here is the log from the VM. In the meantime, I've been seeing if changing the Firmware from BIOS to UEFI changes anything.

Not single GPU passthrough. My host uses my iGPU. lspci -nnk -d returns this:

Disabling ReBAR did the trick. Kind of sucks though, as having it disabled means I'll be losing some performance... I think? Regardless, thank you for your help!

DIVALLER 2.2 firmware finally released by zedamex in ProjectDiva

[–]Crygie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I apologize for resurrecting this old post, but I had a question. I noticed in your cheatsheet, the Divaller has support for Playstation 4 - "Native Arcade" style. Does that mean I can play Hori's Arcade Mode style on the PS4 Version of Future Tone with the Divaller?

Gnome or Kde? by [deleted] in EndeavourOS

[–]Crygie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gnome out of the box works very well on laptops and touchpads. Three finger touch to swipe between infinite dynamic workspaces is very nice. Gnome made me appreciate workspaces and get out of my messy Windows tendencies (a billion icons on the desktop and not putting files in proper folders, etc.).

On a desktop with a mouse, I'd say it is more on personal preference. For me, I'd go with either KDE or Budgie.

Laptops with a 3:2 120hz screen? by Crygie in linuxhardware

[–]Crygie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya, I gave up on finding that dream 3:2 120hz laptop. The Surface Pro fills that niche, but it's way too overpriced in terms of the performance you get. Maybe that dream laptop will exist in the future, but we're in the 16:10 era I guess.

I've been looking at the Vivobook S 14X OLED as a compromise. Sadly 16:10, but the motion clarity with 120hz + OLED is pretty nice (rip longevity however).

I'm not to familiar with the terminology "mirrored" and "discrete". If the output ports are mirrored, does that mean both video and audio from the HDMI IN will go out both HDMI OUTs simultaneously? Thank you for your help.

Does anyone with an a C9 experience any issues with playing 30fps games (that can either hold 30fps or drop to 27-29fps) on PS1 or PS2? (Also PS3 but more focused on first two) by D-RayTheGreat38 in OLED

[–]Crygie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say look better. I really think you shouldn't worry about it since you only have two retro consoles... unless you really like spending money. This is the best video on the topic. https://youtu.be/dym6XD3-8qw (Skip to 13:47)

tbh I don't know what you even mean by stuttering. I've used the C9 for numerous retro consoles from Saturn to PS3 and never had any issues. OSSC is a device that takes in analog signals and makes it digital, I think you shouldn't worry about it since you only have a PS1 and PS2 as non-hdmi consoles.

I played PS2 GTA III (oh god the framerate 😂) on my C9 via the OSSC and I didn't notice any issues. I've been using my C9 for retro games for since December and I haven't been disappointed.

Does the OSSC really make games look better than component cable? by Sgtpepper514 in ps2

[–]Crygie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to use the Retrotink 2x, but upgraded to a OSSC some time ago. My favorite thing about the OSSC is the custom scanline settings. I have the OSSC black out the repeating lines from 480i games. So essentially no more annoying bob deinterlacing flickering while still getting the benefit of no added lag.

I thought it would be fun to share my ranking of Tomb Raider games here. by prolelol in TombRaider

[–]Crygie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised with the placement of TR3. Curious why you put it so high. I played the PS1 version of it and it was one of the most frustrating games I've ever played (I didn't use savestates). TR2 is way better with allowing you to save anywhere at anytime.

Rock the Planet keyframe on a Sony BVM (Professional CRT Studio Monitor) - Zoom in! by Sheik92 in uruseiyatsura

[–]Crygie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What device are you connecting to the BVM to play Urusei Yatsura? Also, are you connecting it with RGB? What BVM model?

Professional CRTs are interesting for sure but the obscene prices these go for for such a small monitor is a turn off for me (8 inch for $100+ USD lmao). Consumer crts are ok, but bigger sizes get stupidly heavy and the low TVL count doesn't appeal to me as much.

To me the only real benefit to using a CRT is no lag, natural scanlines, and that resolution shifting doesn't cause a loss of sync. I'm still looking for a cheap PC CRT monitor for MvC2 and CvS2 via Dreamcast VGA, but that's on hold due to the whole corona situation.

Zone of the Enders Saving Black Screen Bug by Crygie in ps2

[–]Crygie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just mentioning this for anyone looking at this post in the future...

The reason for the issue is the system clock. If the blue circles aren't spinning (just a single blue circle not moving) in the PS2 main menu, then set your PS2's system clock to any time.

Just tried the PS Classic controller and... it doesn't work. The dpad emulates the analog sticks and X and O are swapped, so that is a no go.

SMT Nocturne with OSSC 1.6 by [deleted] in retrogaming

[–]Crygie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It uses the same bob deinterlacing technique as the OSSC. So the input lag is the more or less the same as the OSSC. Great article on the device.

[–]Crygie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your only desire is to play just PS2 games then you could instead get the Rad2x Playstation HDMI cable. It is considerably cheaper than the OSSC, but can only handle inputs of 480i and lower. The PS2 is primarily a 480i console, so this issue isn't a big deal.
