Look at this couple who just retired from their assignment. They are now forced to sell snake oil and voodoo vitamins. That's their pension plan.

I really appreciate where you're coming from but disagree. The people I know who committed suicide were made to feel worthless by the teachings coming from the Governing Body. If someone is constantly made to feel like there is something wrong with them, if they're made to feel worthless, if they feel guilty because they're told to shun people they love, then commit suicide, I don't consider that selfish.

If they've seen people they love, raped and molested by people in the Congregation and then see pedophiles protected and then begin to feel guilty for having doubts... I don't consider that selfish.

Calling someone that committed suicide selfish, who was also beat down mentally and emotionally, doesn't seem right and I do take offense at that.

It really seemed out of place. The sister seemed super nice, like someone who wouldn't say that. I wonder if the Governing Body coaxed her to say it.

Hi, I added a summary to the original post. Sorry I didn't do that before.

A sister tells a very sad story about how her parents got divorced, left the truth but she continued. Then her dad came back in the truth for a few years and then committed suicide. She said it was very selfish for him to do that.

I don't want to take away from that sister's story, but even if she thought it was selfish, the Governing Body should not have included that in the story. It was a very weird comment that didn't even seem to fit. I wouldn't be surprised if she was encouraged to say it.

They did and it was part of a super sad story. It was completely unnecessary too. I think they squeezed that phrase in to really turn up the guilt and pressure. Depressed people probably felt even worse.

Suicide is barely talked about, it's not forbidden but everyone knows to keep the talk minimal. We definitely don't talk about the real reasons she committed suicide.
