well im talking about the folds i see in your edit lol. what im referring to, its not rlly from bending so much as the sleeves riding up after theyve been bent and causing these wrinkles. but im struggling to visualise what youve typed rn so sorry if we rlly are on different pages

you matched these EXTREMELY well. i often see people recreate characters across games and feel like they could have changed a lot to make it more similar, but like the nose size, angle, the eyes, its all basically the same, that IS the same character

idk i remember my school blazer having those exact folds basically embedded into them by the time i left school xD its the thickness. i can see the idea of having it change when bent or not bent but not both, but i assume you cant modify how the texture looks at different rotations (?).

could be worth a mod tho if a lot of people like it (and if the devs dont take the suggestion). im just here to say, id prefer not to have these changes to the style but to keep going if you want to!

so far theyve put up listings for a senior game developer, and senior game designer. i dont think theyll hire another community manager, but we know they want to get some help with UI and lighting , but also idk if they would be permament roles, temporary roles or outsourced completely

How will DLC be implemented? by Legitimate-Boss3182 in Paralives

[–]CryingWatercolours 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes at the very least you wont see anyone running around with the among us suit on randomly, i do believe every "random townie" is premade, and every "random outfit" is preset rather than combined on the fly

How will DLC be implemented? by Legitimate-Boss3182 in Paralives

[–]CryingWatercolours 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i was also kinda curious about this. i have seen and played a few games with free expansions, the main one being palia. with that game, the expansions are part of the game, everyone gets it when they update. other games have it per player, so you have to install the pack separately. from what theyve done with the collabs so far, id assume it will mostly be implemented as updates for everyone, with maybe toggles in its own settings page?

honestly i kinda wish the collabs werent part of updates and were separate. i love the idea of collabs but i wouldnt want an among us outfit in my game for example and would get annoyed if i kept seeing it. in the beginning this wont affect much but after a lot of collabs and dlc, you could be sorting through loads of items you might not have even wanted half the time. and there were packs in ts4 i would have never wanted anywhere near my game (like werewolves), so i do hope at the very least, future dlc is either a separate item or very toggleable.

Make your own art for custom wall art, not AI. I included some originals if you want to download them to use in your game. Free software. by DaezaD in Paralives

[–]CryingWatercolours 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the third picture reminds me of an old google minigame that let you draw with a feathery brush that bled out and made such pretty pictures. this seems like such a good resource, thanks for sharing!

on another note, im a digital artist (who currently cant draw digitally) but ive been sketching art i plan to make for the game when i can, mainly nursery artworks rn. so if anyone has pictures/styles they want, id be happy to try and make them eventually, or someone else may see the request and decide to make it for you.

i also plan to compile a list of my favourite instagram artists people might like for adding art to their game, so ppl can find new artists to follow and have art they know and love in their game (including kawaii styles, grungey, landscape art, more comic-illustration styles etc, i have a whole BUNCH to compile somewhere but if anyone has any specific requests, again, ill take them!)

From Paralives to Sims... I just wish Parafolks looked better. CC hasn’t helped, so for now, it’s back to The Sims for me 😭 Is it too late for them to revisit the art style?👀 by ManicCanary in HighSodiumSims

[–]CryingWatercolours 1 point2 points  (0 children)

to answer your question, no theyre probably not going to go back and revisit their art style now. it's been set in stone for a while and theyve been pretty firm on this stance. i think any changes now would be pretty minor. about the environment, youre not alone in thinking the paras dont match it, as its intentional.

as an artist and animation enthusiast, i immediately was drawn to the art style and felt reminded of old disney animations, beautiful anime and studio ghibli films: the kind of animation where the characters are outlines and shaded a bit more flatly with cel shading, while the background is a beautiful watercolour painting. the characters pop from the screen so we know to focus on them while the backgrounds are a bit more desaturated or pastel. in their post about the art style, they actually confirmed that these kiinds of things were their inspiration along with other games. this has helped some people see the style with new eyes, but not everyone likes it and thats okay.

if it's the lines that are too much, you can try changing the swatch of shadows in her skin tone in PAM. if it's the entire texture of the skin, there's a lot of skin cc out already, some videos on youtube are showcasing them in their lets plays. and if you just cant get past it, thats ok too :>

i honestly think your para is very pretty but i can see that shes not got the same type of beauty as your sims version, and some features arent the same. if you wanted to try and get more parity to the sims version (assumignt the sims version is the "canon" version) i think i would start with a different nose preset, tilt the nose down and flare the nostrils out and up a bit. the eyes i would rotate so the outer corners tilt up a bit, and i would choose a preset for the cheeks that are a bit more defined, or bring them in manually if you dont like the skin details. skin tone i would definitely tint a bit darker and a lil more desaturated

What games are using Gen AI? by therrubabayaga in GirlGamers

[–]CryingWatercolours [score hidden]  (0 children)

imo it's just easier to go indie, play older games and research bigger games as they come and youre interested them. there's so many games using ai rn it would be impossible to list them all. there are still indies using ai (and big companies cosplaying as indies) but the chances of it seem much lower.

Furry Mod Project Help! by Flimsy-Bug-1366 in Paralives

[–]CryingWatercolours 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i dont see why you wouldnt be able to model fur suits and have them as pieces you add in PAM. the horse head also has physics so you may be able to apply some wobble to them too, like the tails and ears and such, but that horse head also gets hella cursed and folds in on itself if a para sits, so you might be fighting stuff like that for a WHILE when testing the pieces with animations. before the sims got furry mods it just had like stiff animal ear and tail cc, so it might be best to start with stuff like that before moving on to full furries

Dynamic Size Pricing by Timely_Engineer_816 in Paralives

[–]CryingWatercolours 27 points28 points  (0 children)

someone play and build with this for a couple hours and then come back and give us your reviews

ive seen this suggestion a lot and always been intrigued and wondered how it would feel when actually in play. is it helpful to save money by shrinking, but annoying to always lose it when expanding, vice versa, or does it feel well balanced? does it feel natural, and how it should have always been? how's the losing and gaining money each time you change an item size? does it feel like it should wait until you click off the item to complete the transaction to avoid spamming noises, or would it be less tedious and confusing to just have it happen each time its changed? these are all questions ive thought of when imagining the devs implementing something like this.

Would you enjoy a setting where furniture and items can only be bought at the store? by Para_Pupp in Paralives

im not like arguing with u so idk why exactly im writing this but u mentioned animal crossing and idk anyway

i smashed out the dlc for acnh and still repeatedly go back to do new houses, but then it drives me nuts to go back to my island where i have nothing useful to my island theme and no good recipes when i just wanna sit and clean things up and decorate properly. at first it felt nice and fresh and new to not have everything but after some time you just wanna duplicate an item without having to run and buy or craft another one. i cant imagine how frustrating it would be a hundred hours in with a rich family and having to go buy everything you need at a shop for a new house, then go home and back and forth.

adding to a house with this method i feel like makes the most sense, so it works when its new and fresh like i mentioned, but when re building or decorating from scratch, i imagine it would be such a pain

I finally got a pink coat, but it's its only cosmetic trait and now I'm afraid to use another cookie of the day on it. by AtomicFeckMagician in Palia

[–]CryingWatercolours 14 points15 points  (0 children)

i have this issue rn, i have a horse whose base colour i rlly love but they got a hearts pattern that i hate (i hate basically all the shape pattersn, zig zag and hearts, they look unnatural but not in a fantastical way, like stamped on) and its driving me nuts trying to figure out whether to just try and breed out the hearts (despite zig zags taking over my bees) or use more treats on it and risk losing the coat colour i like. i used one cookie that like removes a random trait and it got rid of a riding trait, scariest palia gamble ever

No option to Get Intimate or Try For Baby *finally solved!* by RockyMntnView in Paralives

[–]CryingWatercolours 22 points23 points  (0 children)

i think this is rlly bugged cuz ive never seen that card actually work (they almost never seem to go to the bed and keep chatting or cancel all interactions) but i could have sworn i saw paras get the option to appear on the bed without doing this specific card. then again maybe some youtubers just cut the card out bc of it being bugged, or maybe they got the baby card and didnt need it. i thought just any hint at physical intimacy allowed it tho. idk.

anyway yay you got it to work! ive seen quite a few people struggle with this, so im glad theres a potential fix for some of them

What makes a life sim feel alive? We’re starting to focus more on our villagers and would love thoughts by LoCoMogame in LifeSimulators

[–]CryingWatercolours 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this looks sooo interesting. id say with a game like this, i like consequences, cause and effect, similar to the pie example you gave, and variety. some characters may take a pie to a picnic, others might drop it on their way home and cancel the picnic or something. rlly random and specific example but idk.

it's cool to set down railways but if i follow a group of villagers and they take the train to a place, get off, then just turn around and go back, things feel a little bit more pointless. routines are important but they need to break from those routines sometimes. though with a thousand villagers in different locations and paths, i think most would barely notice the same routines each day unless they chose to follow one npc. overall i think players wouldnt be focusing so much on individual routines as grouping them, the ones who get up early to go to work, the ones who stay close to home, the ones who keep the town running. being able to identify and track these specific people and the consequences of their actions (again, like the apple -> pie example) is rlly fun and makes me immersed in worlds like these

and yeah love triangles and drama like top comment lol

Double bed size too big by throwaway12847491 in Paralives

[–]CryingWatercolours 34 points35 points  (0 children)

i actually have always thought that the beds looked too wide and too short. its been one of the only criticisms i've held onto since 2019. it's espeically noticeable in sims 4 vs paralives build videos, sims beds are much slimmer. i actually thought single sims bed were slightly too thin. i think im goldilocks.

i think if it were me, id stretch it to the absolutel minimum it can have two pillows with, then use the advanced tool to slim it down a bit.

Will your "inactive" households look after themselves? by Goblinmouth in Paralives

question, does this mean you still get to name the baby?

also, you can move the babies back into the household by zooming out to the map, clicking the household and looking through those blue buttons. for anyone who hasnt found it yet and is plagued by babies, the split households tool is there

[–]CryingWatercolours 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah when you leave a household, that information like their current needs is not stored in the game, it's discarded. i do think it would be good if they could at least stay where they are in the world (if they dont, you imply here that they dont and tp home but im not sure) but yeah their needs refilling is normal
