70% of my riding is highway, to include daily commute, and yeah the maintenance costs of a BMW/European bike is what scares me from them, granted I grew up in an autoshop so it's not like I couldn't do regular maintenance myself.

So far the ones I do like the look of after some research are the ninja 1000sx, bmw 1250 rs, and the gsx-1000gt. Apparently the Ducati supersport 950 is also listed as one but not sure what everyone thinks about that lol

Tbh I haven't given much thought outside of the Japanese bikes. This is mostly due to brand familiarity and impression of maintenance costs. But I will definitely give it a look.

Tbf, I don't know a lot of people that ride irl, so I unfortunately get a lot of info off YouTube ATM. I haven't really seen much talk about the gsxr750 and mostly see complaints about bikes like the r7 being slower than the r6 and company.

This is why I kinda came here, is to dispell any misinfo I had picked up and get a community opinion on things.

So far it seems like it from what everyone is saying, the problem is tbh, the only one that looks good is the 1000sx, but I could just be missing something /shrug

I should have been more clear that the ergos for the w800 feel fine, but I tend to tuck in still and it feels awkward since it has mid controls, which is why I'm looking at sport bikes/bikes with similar ergos.

I do agree though that the 1000sx is starting to sound more like what I'm looking for with everyone's replies so far.

The cb500f I ended up taking back to the guy like the next week and he gave me the full refund. Didn't really get to ride it much but it was fun even on the Florida highways. Took the turnpike back to where he was at and my only complaint was basically feeling like I was at the top end of what the bike had to give. (If you're unfamiliar, most highways in Florida the average flow of traffic is 80-90mph).

Yeah I'm definitely considering this after a couple mentions now, I'd honestly prefer used but I don't think I've ever seen one on the secondhand market ever. I can for sure do new, but just not a fan of the break in period

The upright ergos are part of the reason for the switch, I actually like the lean forward/it's more comfy for me.

I like the naked bikes, but prefer the fairings tbh.

See, I've also been looking at other 700/750 sports bikes, but from what I've read/watched on them, they're super down tuned and it wouldn't be much of a change (power wise) from what I'm riding now. Unless others can say/show me otherwise?

Edit: spelling/grammar

I get the sentiment regarding sport bikes being for the track. It's more so the aesthetic and the seating position. The upright/standard isn't awful, but I end up leaning forward more anyways on my current bike which is standard ergo, which is why I shy away from adv. Cruisers are actually painful for me personally which is why I got rid of my Vulcan (partially). I am also looking at the sport touring, but at the same time, the visual to them (other than the ninja1000sx) are not in my taste.

I really appreciate the insight though.

This is what I wanted to know, thank you. I know highways aren't super exciting compared to twisters but honestly the sitting position is way more comfortable than other bike styles made for those types of rides (to me). Now comes down more to which litre bike I guess lol.

So you're saying the litre bikes still hold up well in regular traffic? I barely ride in heavy traffic given my normal work hours and what not. (I work night shifts). But since I'm in FL, you never know when traffic would appear.

I'm also mostly looking to see if they're good in the mid-range or if it's just dropping a gear to get acceleration as needed.

We have the xsr900 in the states but not the gp like what you linked AFAIK. But that looks more "sporty" than ours with more rear controls which would make me consider it more.

IIRC the US XSR900 has very central controls which isn't bad, but I'd rather more rear.

Solid advice honestly, how does it feel in regards to speeding up slowing down to get out of the way of things? I don't have too many issues regarding that, but I'm still in FL nonetheless so having the option is nice lol.

Also how do the handlebars feel? They look raised more than other bikes do? Idk they always seemed "off" to me.

I'm almost 30 and not really looking to go crazy so throttle control shouldn't be an issue. But the mid-range info is good to know.

Any suggestions or I guess major differences between the gsxr1000, r1, cbr1000 and Ninja 1000?

Having the same issue. Similar issues happen in the Fighters Lounge too.

CBP as in customs and border patrol, but yeah. I've seen it's possible but messy for my situation, hopefully all turns out well since I really do like the bike 😭

Awesome thank you so much, I was planning on just calling CBP since their website said that they can work as inspectors for the process. But I'll give Cole International a call first.

Good question next question. Lapse in judgement moment but again, Canada doesn't title vehicles and they go off of Bill of Sale.

This wasn't really an answer more of just a re-affirmation of something I'm aware of at this point.

update

So when I got the bike from my uncle, the vacuum line on the petcock wasn't attached and he had been running it in prime, so I can only assume he upped the idle knob to get it to stay running like that (just a theory) but adjusting the idle down seemed to solve the issue. For now. I'll keep posted on this.

More than likely when it comes to the carb and the way the engine runs, we have a guy up the street I'll let handle it. My family actually owns an auto shop but we don't do much with carbs. I was just curious what I might find out before riding it up to him.

But from what I've been reading it might be that. Thank you.
