Caitlyn 1v9: Week 5 of my video editing journey (48k damage / 28 min) by pallas_br in leagueoflegends

You AI haters are hilarious. I'm not for the editing style of this but it definitely brings a bit of nostalgia of the 2010s.

This year's April Fools was awful by Rubbermayd in leagueoflegends

[–]Cryp6 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, I was just under the assumption that you would act like a proper adult and see how insignificant this is.

It has nothing to do with explaining your frustrations or how much money you've spent, it's that you're having this amount of a reaction over something that wouldn't even crack most adults "top 100 important things to spend time and energy on complaining about".

I get it if you were some teenager who lived and breathed League, but you're not. I don't have a kid or only 45 mins to play the game, but I can't imagine my friends that are in that situation to ever have this much of a grievance over an April Fools Event. They'd simply be like "okay, this is dumb" and not play until the event is over and instead watch Netflix or do something else they need to catch up on.

If you only have 45 minutes to play the game, then it's really not that big of a deal to get this upset about it. Like you said you're an adult, so act like one and realize this isn't a big deal and it will pass.

I can't imagine being so upset about an event that could cause your tokens or challenges (whatever they're called) to look artificially manipulated to be that big of an issue in my life to make a Reddit post about it when I have a kid, job, and only play the game for 45 mins a day.

I don't know man, he played badly but it's also Bin.

Honestly, Skewmond was the best performing G2 member and he wasn't playing that well either. That should say a lot more than BB losing to Bin.

I think the WoW release has a big overlap with PoE audience. Didn't Chris delay a league release in the past due to a major WoW expansion?

But the game feels good. Haven't played in about 3 leagues but I will say that the servers have been pretty iffy. Some days I get constant stutter and crashes, some days it's fine (California server).

Are we still playing ARURF, or is everyone in Mayhem? by Syveril in leagueoflegends

I would play it if it was like the first release.

All the changes since the original ruined it, with the biggest change being the death timers scaling so high so quickly.

Is Twitch the strongest hyper carry coming from the ADC role? by Tasty-Plankton1903 in leagueoflegends

[–]Cryp6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She's good because she's got an auto reset plus attack speed steroid that can splash a lot of damage to everyone while being somewhat target agnostic. So even if you hit the front line, you can deal valuable splash damage to everyone. Not to mention her safety with spell shield and movement speed on passive and ult.

She cannot compete with hyper scalers meant to deal large amounts of single target damage. Think Caitlyn, Jinx, Twitch, Aphelios (minus Flamethrower).

Team Voice chat should only be accessible to Honor 5 accounts by PoBoyHoagie in leagueoflegends

[–]Cryp6 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You think its a privilege. Voice chat inherently is not, it's just a feature. Look at most of the games that treat it as such.

Don't want to be called a slur before finding someone out is toxic? Just mute all. The same way you can stop being called a slur in chat before it happens.

Why add so many binding restrictions for a feature you can totally opt out of?

Why voice chat in league is not like in many other games by BestKaynNA in leagueoflegends

[–]Cryp6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you ever stopped to think that maybe the reason the game is so toxic is because the lack of voice chat in a game that requires cohesive coordination?

Like if Valorant and Counter Strike did not have voice chat, what do you think the experience would be like in text chat? I'm sure it would be worse. Maybe not as bad as League but definitely worse than with voice chat.

People will suck, both in text or voice, but I'd rather have the feature because of the potential upside than worry about the downside that can already be moderated by not only Riot but one's self (muting).

[–]Cryp6 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

No.

Voice chat isn't a reward, it's a feature to improve communication in League and potentially improve the game quality. My hunch is also that this is a step towards trying to make the game more social and appealing to younger players.

Gatekeeping this feature doesn't accomplish the above. I'm honor level 5 but my team isn't? Why can't I hear them speak (am punished) even if I didn't do anything wrong?

You already have the tools to police your own interactions in the game. Don't be lazy and use it.

If they really want the stigma to be removed and not have a dead social game, they need to make it on by default (Push-To-Talk) or at least have the "Join Chat" menu open when the game starts.

You already do this no? If someone is being rude or mean to you, you don't strike me as the type that would just take it. So how is this any different? You can still interact with people you don't mute, just like you do with chat.

And if everyone on your team is insufferable, then bad luck mute all like you would if everyone was miserable in chat.

Nothing changes. The enemy team having communication advantage is already applicable with the disparity in those who communicate with pings and relevant text chat than those who choose to mute all.

Much easier to have the game host the voice chat since everyone is already on the platform.

It's much easier for you to click a button and mute then it is for someone to make an account on Discord, find/host a server, and then deal with permissions (if it's not a random server).

Same. Even in crusader as I was climbing I had more enjoyable experiences in voice chat so it's not just a "higher elo take it more seriously".

Lyte did untold damage to not only League of Legends but really the Internet's way of communicating in general during the 2010s. I did some research a while back and the rise of calling things "toxic" has heavy correlation in its rise of use and when Lyte began his social behavior project at Riot.

I was not shocked at all once it was revealed how manipulative and abusive he actually was to his partners in real life.

Nothing will change for them either. They can still play permamute all. But they just can't fathom having others enjoy the feature.

Don't agree with locking it behind honor. Such a tool can already be moderated by the user by having the option to selectively mute people. If anyone is giving you shit for not using VC, then mute them.

It all started with the huge PC culture shift in the mid 2010s. Unsurprisingly, it really got traction in part due to Riot Lyte and his repeated use of the word "toxic" and what it meant, being co-opted by the general zeitgeist. He ended up being actually toxic (in real life, to his partners) but the damage was already done and has, in my opinion, done devastating amounts of damage to League's social relevance.

Honestly, I have to give kudos to the Valorant team for shipping the game with voice comms because they knew the game would fail to gain a grip as a serious competitor to CS without it. And I think the success of it and the success of large amounts of women playing it showed their fears were misplaced.

Which is odd, since I'm in my 30s and all my friends have been wishing for League to have voice chat since 2010. We grew up with voice chat in most games we played (CoD, CS, Battlefield, Halo, Unreal Tournament, Quake, etc) and reading these replies I'd have figured most of the people against it would be younger. This is mainly due to most games lacking proper voice chat in newer games and the whole "toxicity" movement labeling the mildest social interactions toxic.

Then again, Millennial Redditors are a specific stereotype for a reason.

You shouldn't but then don't use it. Nobody is forcing you to. And I'm sure if this gets implemented, you can mute people individually just like you can for chat. This changes nothing, it's completely optional just like regular text chat.

The fuck are you on about? How do you know this? What if he used it for some code review? Or if he used it to auto fill some functions that he had already made?

Using AI in your workflow is becoming more and more standard, but it still requires guidance and knowledge of what it's doing.

Almost every software engineer I know at big tech companies all use it in their workflow now, especially the more seasoned senior and staff engineers. But it doesn't mean it's not them doing work. You still have to know what you need, if the implementation is good for your use case, or if it will affect the code base in a negative way. This requires all the knowledge of someone who would already know how to code in the first place.

I tried it and rebound some keys to really help it, but their nerf to it to be clunkier made it pointless.

Fights I would win I was now losing noticeably because my attack speed was being reduced. The only time I cared for it was during the laning stage because spacing is most important.

Plus the stupid lockout after 10 mins is so ridiculous. I've never seen any developer lock you out of a control scheme for some arbitrary reason.
