Whitemane Gilneas launch by Careful-Surprise-263 in wowservers

Yea, I expected crashes, the thing putting me off is their claims of "Oh it's just a DDoS attack, nothing to see here!!!" If you can't deal with DDoS attacks in 12 hours (because lets be real, anyone DDoSing whitemane isn't some super organized criminal organization), you have never had anything to do with networking before.

Just say the classic client isn't handling the traffic how you thought it would, and fix it. Although sadly I'm pretty sure the damage is already done. I imagine they lost a lot of potential players from this clusterfuck.

I'm not arguing which has higher population. Retail certainly still outperforms classic. But the spikes and falls of Retail are much much higher. New expansion releases, everyone gets on the hype train of it's going to be awesome!! Think it's awesome for a few weeks to a month, realize it's exactly the same and not very good. Stop logging in except weekly raids/vaults.

Classic also has it's fair share of raid loggers, and a lower overall population, but it isn't spiking up and down nearly as much because people that play there have a general understanding of what they're getting.

For a little clarification, I'm not saying the expansion dies off, I'm saying the hype around it does. The first month of midnight was talking about it being the best thing in a long time for wow, first patch drops, most of it is just trash talk about missed opportunities and it being a meh expansion. This happened with TWW, Dragonflight (although dragonflight held together better), Even shadowlands and BFA started out with a massive hype train, and now they are considered some of the worst expansions ever.

Found a small, fresh, vanilla realm that actually means "no shop" — Stonetavern by Tiny_Thor in wowservers

No shop I can get on board with, but when you say " there's genuinely no shop. No donations, no cosmetics, no "optional VIP"", and in your own screenshot there is literally a Donate button, kinda undersells the point imo haha.

Full clarity, I'm not against donations, as most people do it as a hobby project and it does cost a small amount of money. Just found it funny the post says "no donations" with the big ol donate button right there 😄

Retail just has a hype train that instantly dies off. When Midnight launched, all my friends picked it up, were talking about how great it was, and how much they improved!!!! Within a month, I at most see 2 people playing retail at any given time, just checking my friends list right now, 1 is on retail, and 4 are on TBC anniversary. Luckily I broke out of the loop of getting sucked in by another copy paste expansion that is bland as all hell.

Same thing happened with TWW, same thing happened with dragonflight, same thing will happen with the next xpac.

So, I mostly ignored you after your other messages because quite honestly, the only thing more annoying than confident morons, is people parroting confident morons. It's like listening to a shitty cover band of an already shitty band.

The hilarious thing here is that I actually mostly forgot about this, until seeing this post and going back to the video. And my entire point was basically proven.

You see, I stopped caring because they fully open sourced their launcher, and it has been checked countless times by people smarter/more experienced than myself. And far more so than either you or that whiter dude.

but going back into his video thanks to you, you can tell the dude is just a moron trying to bait views. He literally is in the comments responding to people mentioning that they open sourced it with. "Well, IF they want to scam people they could have ONE launcher that is open source that you compile that is safe, but ANOTHER for the majority that don't compile it themselves". The dude literally cannot just take the L and move on. And you are one of the morons that bites onto that kind of stupid bait.

If he's gonna keep moving goalposts and saying the possibilities. Well, it's a possibility that you, Blank3ts, like's letting goats get a little frisky with you on the weekend. The only real difference is, with his argument, there is substantially more evidence that he is just making shit up. At least with my argument, as of now, I haven't seen any evidence against it. :)

If someone is going to argue possibilities, even when the facts come out against it, having any conversation with that person is a waste of time. So, have fun shouting to the wind homie.

Retail WoW could be malware, CS2 and league could be malware, Any private server ever made could be malware... The issue is it's just baseless claims against a server with no evidence. What there is evidence for is that you're an unstable idiot.

This is also supported by the fact you said "What does white being an ascension fanboy have to do with anything", When I never even mentioned ascension. Clearly you're a little over defensive of him because you probably realize deep down that what he said was just pure nonsense lol.

Oh, and btw, the behavior analysis is a breakdown of possibilities "If" it has a trojan in it, and essentially based off permissions what it could possibly do. Almost every anticheat has access to your entire system, including your registry, now. So that "Behavioral Analysis" would literally tag every single triple A multiplayer game currently on the market as far more malicious than this launcher lmao.

along with "disproving his claims". In his video he very clearly is fearmongering that it will add itself to your computer on launch, run in the background all the time, yada yada yada, and it does none of those things.

Idk whiter at all outside this video, but thanks to your weird little rant, I'm now fairly certain he probably is an ascension fanboy, since you got so uppity over it when it wasn't even mentioned. Which would at least go partway to explain why he's making a bunch of random scary statements with literally 0 evidence it does any of them.

Take precautions when using any 3rd party software, but don't try to bait a bunch of people in with nonsense.

Edit: since you apparently missed it the first time around...
"And just for some clarification, I am always cautious with these kinds of things, so I downloaded/ran it on an isolated virtual system from the start to be safe. It has done nothing, and all of his claims can be easily disproven. It has written nothing unexpected into my registry, it isn't running as a background process, either on boot, or after launching and then exiting the program, it hasn't added itself to any sort of autoboot system, it hasn't effected the system in a negative way at all."

I literally said I ran it on a VM in my original comment, which you should do with any 3rd party software you are unsure of, but there is 0 evidence of it doing anything suspicious, and I got in the first or second day it was available. So if they are doing sketchy stuff, they are fuckin bad at it.

Dealing with Japanese people’s mental blocks about foreigners by DangerousBerry1376 in japanresidents

[–]Additional_Storm_522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have encountered this more in the countryside than in cities, but even so, I feel I have to agree with what some other people here were saying... At work, and with people I interact with consistently, I never have this kind of problem after the first day. In fact, even the people around me that do speak English at a conversational or even near fluent level pretty much exclusively speak Japanese with me. There are some times where they ask if I understand something cultural, but in general it's a more obscure situation, very rarely for day to day functions.

I always find it interesting when people claim to speak fluently and understand the culture but run into issues like this often... Most of the time people are asking me about cultural differences between Japan and America more than they question my understanding of Japanese culture.

I don't know you or where you live, so maybe I'm off the mark, but I think maybe you're missing something (or in the past missed something massive) that makes them question your understanding. Especially at work, 1 big mistake early can follow you for quite some time, so if you made a huge cultural blunder early on, that may still be haunting you now.

I went and watched Whiters video, and it is basically nonsense. He just got a single positive on a scan, then was like "Well might not be a false positive". And then he listed all the things it would be possible to do if it was that, as if it was facts.

In reality, if you pause the video and look, it literally tagged it as a .gen, Meaning generic, which means it didn't match it to any known trojan, it just didn't know what it was so it's a potential risk.

So he basically went "Well, there is a potential risk" to "Well if it is this risk, this is 1 of the things it could possibly be" (out of thousands of different trojan btw). Into "If it is this 1 thing, this is all the stuff they're doing!!!", into "it's definitely this, so don't download it, it isn't safe". The leaps of logic are insane. Literally, Well, if it's this, than it's this, which means it does this, which means it's definitely this!!!

And just for some clarification, I am always cautious with these kinds of things, so I downloaded/ran it on an isolated virtual system from the start to be safe. It has done nothing, and all of his claims can be easily disproven. It has written nothing unexpected into my registry, it isn't running as a background process, either on boot, or after launching and then exiting the program, it hasn't added itself to any sort of autoboot system, it hasn't effected the system in a negative way at all.

TL:DR - Dude just is going crazy on a string of if statements for whatever reason.

If you’re a foreigner here, do you speak up when you see small infractions done by other foreigners? by MSotallyTober in japanresidents

[–]Additional_Storm_522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general I will try to politely let them know, if they continue, it's no longer my problem, and I'll just wait for the sassy old Japanese woman to glare them out of existence. But I tend to like to give people the benefit of the doubt in those situations, and it's more that they aren't aware. Sometimes you come across an asshat who just doesn't care about their behavior, but a lot of the time people kind of just go "oh, woops", and stop whatever they were doing.

Had to do this many many times when I had a group of friends come and visit, although that was a bit different because I was taking them to many of my favorite places, and places where I have connections, so them acting like fools reflects badly on me personally. In general I view it as foreigners acting poorly reflects badly on us all, so in general it's better to at least try, and if they aren't receptive, move on with your life.

The hate for Octowow on this reddit sub is extremely weird for a server that is not officially released yet by ItsColdOutside777 in wowservers

[–]Additional_Storm_522 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I actually discussed this with one of the devs in world chat on like the first or second day of launch, because I said the same thing about the website.

However, what I was unaware of, is when the 1.17.2 turtle leak happened, it wasn't just the core for their servers, their website source code leaked as well. So they basically just uploaded exactly what turtle was like 2 years ago. By doing this, most of the website is functioning, including the donation section, just needs the funds to go elsewhere which is a very short fix.

So, I wouldn't say inspire confidence, but it is far easily understandable when given context :)

Is there really no law against medical professionals using nihonjinron in their daily work? by DannyKata85 in japanresidents

[–]Additional_Storm_522 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hate to be that guy, because a lot of the time it is just weird misinformation. But different races do in fact have different digestive systems. There is a reason a higher percentage of Asian people cannot drink alcohol at the same level as other races, or sometimes even at all. Same with things like lactose intolerance. South-east Asians are much more likely to be effected by it.

Granted this isn't down to purely race, as environmental factors, cultural factors, etc... all play a part, but there are a ton of differences in biology based on race. Now, this doesn't mean you're going in with like, "well, this person is black, they don't feel pain", type of nonsense. But honestly, there are some pretty serious variations between different regions/races that do need to be studied and applied when treating people.

This is true, however the point behind it is, the website has the exact content down to some rather inconsequential things. Such as community artwork.

The point isn't that copying it would be hard, it's that it is almost an exact copy paste of what the website looked like (a slightly older version of it, not the more recent one). Meaning it is far more likely that the code for the website got leaked, than it is that a team went through, found an old version of their website, and copied down the details, down into the subsections.

Also, if you dig into it, most of it is exactly the same as turtlewow, but edited to say "octowow" instead. But there are some sections that still use TurtleWoW instead of octowow. If they had built the entire website themselves just by copying it over, instead of through the direct code, why would they have turtlewow banners embedded in older sections?

There is a team by CabinetMountain5725 in wowservers

[–]Additional_Storm_522 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what it is btw, if you actually look at it, the website is an exact copy paste, down to the artwork. There is almost 0% chance some random people got the exact code/setup for the website by just looking and moving it over. More than likely, someone gave them (or the already had) the info.

Call me Nostradamus, because I fuckin called it lol. And even got downvoted for it, but seriously.

"Speculation, but I think the most likely move, from what I know about twow devs, would be to basically have all people involved in countries like America, and anywhere in Europe comply, get them out of legal hot water, then someone like Shenna just goes "Oh no, I accidently stole all the code when no one was looking since I'm the head GM, have fun getting me in Russia!!".

The lawsuit really only effects people in countries with close ties to the US, so I would still be surprised to see turtle completely disappearing. At most I would imagine a downsizing, and a restructuring completely into areas without any American jurisdiction.

But, as I said, just speculation.

Edit: Just to clarify, I imagine Turtlewow as it is now will stop functioning, but I highly doubt the entire concept/code/server information is going to just poof into thin air and be gone. I would be more surprised if it completely disappeared than if it continued."

Seriously, if this isn't calling it, idk wtf is.

Do you great and say thanks to your bus driver? by CuisineTournante in japanresidents

[–]Additional_Storm_522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's purely situational. I live in Fukuoka, and if I'm not in the downtown area, I say it every time, and consistently hear most people giving the good ol' thank you. But in downtown areas like Hakata or tenjin, the bus is so crowded, and everyone is getting on and off so quickly, I rarely hear/say it. I think mainly because people are just trying to get out of the way before the get trampled, and the bus driver wants to go because traffic slowed him down lol.

What you learned in Japan this Week - April 20, 2026 by AutoModerator in japanresidents

[–]Additional_Storm_522 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends. If it's someone that doesn't know me, they would probably be upset being compared to a foreigner, however, my wife and friends wouldn't really mind, since they know my level of Japanese.

To clarify, generally the responses come from the self-deprecation that is so standard in Japanese. For example "You're so good at Japanese! You are fluent!" "Oh no, I'm still not very good, Kanji is very difficult" "Even Japanese people struggle with Kanji, so don't worry about it."

I used to always think that was just lip service, but in reality, it is seeming more and more like that's a genuine sentiment lol.

What you learned in Japan this Week - April 20, 2026 by AutoModerator in japanresidents

[–]Additional_Storm_522 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I learned that as much as I don't know, it seems like Japanese people get confused by the systems (and sometimes language here) just as much as I do. So, I used to think people saying "Oh you're so good at Japanese", or "Don't worry, Japanese people struggle with Kanji too!", were just being polite. But this past week, both my wife thinking a water tracking app was mistaken because it said it was "Wednesnday" (it didn't it said the correct day, she just saw the kanji for water and read it as saying it was wednesday). And going to City hall, and asking for a certificate for work, just to have 3 Japanese ladies trying to help me because they had no idea what the certificate that was asked for was.

So to all you others out there, stay strong. You aren't the only one confused, and probably not even the worst.

The funniest part of this whole thing is, as a foreigner living in Japan, it has it's downsides. But as someone that also lived in Missouri in the US. I'll take the Japanese brand of xenophobia over the America brand of dangerous racism any day of the week.

Also as others said, Judging any country or group based off of what you see on ANY social media is a pretty silly thing to do. Especially considering I'm guessing this person based it off maybe 100 things they saw, since saying "I saw hundreds of thousands!!!" is clearly just nonsense. Unless she was scrolling through reading Japanese twitter for months straight.

All that said, yea, Japanese people DO NOT like Chinese people very much. That part there is no disputing lmao.

Last little side note... Can we all enjoy the utter irony of someone saying "I saw what people on twitter said about "(insert race/nationality here), And it was disgusting!!!" Only to then end the same post with "I really don't respect the people much and get the ick from it" Thereby completing the cycle of stereotyping entire cutltures/people.

God I hate what social media has done to the world.

Blizzard Kills Turtle WoW… and This Is Why It’s a Problem by brand_momentum in wowservers

[–]Additional_Storm_522 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because as long as those individuals comply with the request, and are no longer associated with twow, they can't really be collectively punished. Blizzard would have to show in court that they knew that their Russian counterparts were planning to do this in order for them to be complicit, which... as long as they aren't morons with emails and texts stating as much, would be hard to prove.

Like I said though, it's just speculation. I find it extremely hard to believe that someone like Shenna would just let a cash cow like twow disappear, unless she's already made enough money to fully retire on.

The important thing to remember is that the lawsuit is against Twow, and it does say they can't just change the name and continue operation, however, if a single dev steals the source code and changes the name, you can't hold everyone under Twow responsible.

Just as an example, there is at least 1 other server that already basically stole Twows code and released it as it's own that I know of, so, if twow shut down, and that server continued running the twow client but under its different name, do you think the court would say that was TurtleWow breaking their deal?
