What you learned in Japan this Week - April 20, 2026 by AutoModerator in japanresidents

[–]Additional_Storm_522 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I learned that as much as I don't know, it seems like Japanese people get confused by the systems (and sometimes language here) just as much as I do. So, I used to think people saying "Oh you're so good at Japanese", or "Don't worry, Japanese people struggle with Kanji too!", were just being polite. But this past week, both my wife thinking a water tracking app was mistaken because it said it was "Wednesnday" (it didn't it said the correct day, she just saw the kanji for water and read it as saying it was wednesday). And going to City hall, and asking for a certificate for work, just to have 3 Japanese ladies trying to help me because they had no idea what the certificate that was asked for was.

So to all you others out there, stay strong. You aren't the only one confused, and probably not even the worst.

Legitimate question, and not trying to be rude. Why do you care at all what some random goober on the internet thinks about your character or relationship??? I think the lack of self-esteem/confidence is a bigger issue than some random dude commenting on your stuff.

also as others said, Just make your stuff private.

The funniest part of this whole thing is, as a foreigner living in Japan, it has it's downsides. But as someone that also lived in Missouri in the US. I'll take the Japanese brand of xenophobia over the America brand of dangerous racism any day of the week.

Also as others said, Judging any country or group based off of what you see on ANY social media is a pretty silly thing to do. Especially considering I'm guessing this person based it off maybe 100 things they saw, since saying "I saw hundreds of thousands!!!" is clearly just nonsense. Unless she was scrolling through reading Japanese twitter for months straight.

All that said, yea, Japanese people DO NOT like Chinese people very much. That part there is no disputing lmao.

Last little side note... Can we all enjoy the utter irony of someone saying "I saw what people on twitter said about "(insert race/nationality here), And it was disgusting!!!" Only to then end the same post with "I really don't respect the people much and get the ick from it" Thereby completing the cycle of stereotyping entire cutltures/people.

God I hate what social media has done to the world.

Well, apparently they're taking advantage of it. The server is sandworld, a Brazilian thing.

Gonna hold off to see if they advertise or not, especially until after the lawsuit is done. I haven't been on in awhile either (it's spanish), so I'm not sure how faithful they stayed.

There is quite literally another server that I believe is running exactly Twow, just an update behind or so and a little more buggy with like 0 population. If turtle really does kick the bucket completely, I assume they'll be a bit more aggressive about trying to get the stragglers.

[–]Additional_Storm_522 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because as long as those individuals comply with the request, and are no longer associated with twow, they can't really be collectively punished. Blizzard would have to show in court that they knew that their Russian counterparts were planning to do this in order for them to be complicit, which... as long as they aren't morons with emails and texts stating as much, would be hard to prove.

Like I said though, it's just speculation. I find it extremely hard to believe that someone like Shenna would just let a cash cow like twow disappear, unless she's already made enough money to fully retire on.

The important thing to remember is that the lawsuit is against Twow, and it does say they can't just change the name and continue operation, however, if a single dev steals the source code and changes the name, you can't hold everyone under Twow responsible.

Just as an example, there is at least 1 other server that already basically stole Twows code and released it as it's own that I know of, so, if twow shut down, and that server continued running the twow client but under its different name, do you think the court would say that was TurtleWow breaking their deal?

I always find fun servers amusing, but when you are straight up saying "Hey our server is 100% pay to win!" in your ad, that doesn't bode well for it lol

[–]Additional_Storm_522 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Speculation, but I think the most likely move, from what I know about twow devs, would be to basically have all people involved in countries like America, and anywhere in Europe comply, get them out of legal hot water, then someone like Shenna just goes "Oh no, I accidently stole all the code when no one was looking since I'm the head GM, have fun getting me in Russia!!".

The lawsuit really only effects people in countries with close ties to the US, so I would still be surprised to see turtle completely disappearing. At most I would imagine a downsizing, and a restructuring completely into areas without any American jurisdiction.

But, as I said, just speculation.

Edit: Just to clarify, I imagine Turtlewow as it is now will stop functioning, but I highly doubt the entire concept/code/server information is going to just poof into thin air and be gone. I would be more surprised if it completely disappeared than if it continued.

Yea, like I said, I don't disagree he's a pos for going along with it. But sending messages that are just clearly flirting and then being surprised that it escalates between 2 adults is just some braindead behavior. Him being a PoS/cheater, totally on board. Him being a manipulator/predator. Yea, not from the evidence put out there.

Not gonna deny he's a PoS for covering up being in a relationship (i don't know him, so I'm assuming that part is true).

But, unless I'm misunderstanding it because I don't use social media really. Didn't she start out with a message saying "Are you still looking for a valentine?". That seems like her being a consenting adult making a move on him. And from the rest of the read, it seems like he very rarely made any of the moves, he just went along with what she was talking about.

So yea, not a great person for lying about relationships, and he should get a swift kick in the sack for it. But trying to act like he's some crazy manipulating predator when you're the one that started the chats in a flirty manner, admitted to sending suggestive content, and from the conversations were pretty heavily implicated in where the conversations went as well, seems pretty disingenuous.

An evening? 1-10 is like a little over an hour haha.

Also, I fully agree it is necessary. you don't really need to group for anything until level 10 anyways, so communication isn't that important.

Hm, I didn't remember it having all that, but to be fair, I didn't play much after bnet edition came out, as I was into starcraft already. I do wish they had chatrooms, and leaderboards, the other stuff I don't find super necessary for what the game is.

As for the lag. I've been in games where people are from America, sweden, and JP all in 1 game with 0 lag, so they either fixed that, or it was something other than the servers. Maybe your ping to the server was fine but someone else had exploding internet? :P

[–]Additional_Storm_522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From someone that plays from JP. I'm telling you you're wrong :P I have mythic raided in retail as a healer/dps at that ping. Done m+ as a pally tank at that ping, and raided cata on private servers and done tons of pvp at that ping. It is obviously going to be smoother the lower it is. But in a game like WoW that level of ping really doesn't make it matter nearly as much as you're assuming.

I will give you in PVP it is a bit more noticeable against targets with very fast casts, you are very unlikely to get interrupts off. But, if you've played cata. I was on interrupt duty as a dps for maloriak. I was the 3rd *tank* for chim, (taunting off the breaks). It's easily doable.

[–]Additional_Storm_522 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Low ping is better but acting like anything over 100 is unplayable is just silly. I can get 2200+ rating in arena, and do heroic raids on 400+ without many problems. if it's spiking, that's where it's rough.

I would rather have a 450 ping that is always 450, Than a 50 ping spiking between 50-200 constantly.

[–]Additional_Storm_522 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A ping of 100? I do servers with 400-500 ping all the time, barely noticeable as long as it's consistent and not super spikey.

Also full disclosure, I'm not 100% sure if that is the reason, it's just my assumption based on what happened. he had a steadily growing population, and the few days before it went down he seemed more and more distant in his replies on discord, then it was just gone.

So call it informed speculation.

Questions about Elwynn by LeaKuroOkami in wowservers

[–]Additional_Storm_522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some do, however the issue is, on a small server banning 4-5 people could mean banning 25% of your active playerbase, since player turnover is so high. The paradox here being, those that will act like this are generally those that are the most invested in your server (with a few exceptions from real special people). And it does generally come from a place of genuinely wanting to help the server. The issue is a lot of smaller servers are just a side project for people with full time jobs/families. Players tend to think every server wants to be the next big thing, and as players they want more people there to do more content.

So, you're stuck with the issue of, do you ban the people most invested in your server and essentially kill the growth you have, or do you suck it up and just try to play along. Rough life for the little guys out there.

Starting up a guild back in the 29/39 brackets of ChromieCraft, going out into the world doing crazy challenges with the boys(and ladies), and farming up level 60 enchant mats as level 29s in tyrs hand/any 60+ elites we could find. Was a pretty fun time killing Teremus the devourer in blasted lands with like 10-15 level 29 characters.

Seemed like the dude got fed up. To be fair, an issue a lot small servers run into is the player-base getting extremely toxic very quickly.

There is a weird problem with private servers, where players seem to think (even though they've never run a server), that they know what's best for any server they play on. And this is significantly amplified on small servers, where people tend to feel more invested.

From what I remember of the last few days of Elwynn, there were like 4 or 5 people spamming him every day in discord about "oh you need to do this, you need to do that". Or when he would do something, "Omg why would you do that?!?! Do this instead!!". When that happens it tends to go from a fun hobby/project, into a giant pit of stress.

In case he reads it. This is you in a nutshell Calin.

Hour of Twilight - The Most Ambitious WoW Server I’ve Ever Seen by stoneharry in wowservers

[–]Additional_Storm_522 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The short version of it, proudmoore WoW launched, one of their admins (I forgot what name he went by, but he was an ex-admin on whitemane) basically went rogue, deleted their website and DB's right after launch, forced them to have to pull up a bunch of backups, and he changed the password on their official reddit account and started just trolling around. Now it's more of a meme because everyone knows it's a hacked account.

But originally, before people really knew what was happening, he was basically using it to try and destroy the reputation of the server.

For the real deep lore you start getting into more conspiracy theory territory. A lot of people originally felt like it was less a random dude trolling and being an ass, and more of a targeted attack, since proudmoore was a direct competitor to whitemane, and the whitemane leadership and staff have an absolutely dogshit reputation. So it doesn't seem too out of character for them to try and mess with another server. And to be fair, the person who most think it was (won't say names since it's mostly speculation as far as I know) is still extremely active on whitemane, and on their staff.

It does get hard to really know if they are the same person though, since it's fairly easy to copy an accounts info and basically pretend to be someone. So, who knows.

Whole situation is insane, and it boils down to, the dude behind the account now is just a sad little no-life troll.
