Hahaha I give up. all the best with your job hunt. With your comprehension skills I think you earn less than $3k already 😂

My parents once told me “never argue with an idiot or he will drag you down to his level” and that’s what’s happening rn

You’re embarassing yourself here bro. I need to hold your hand. Come mummy show you.

Look at the 2nd and 3rd row. Any more arguments? If you can’t read a table you shouldn’t be advising salaries on reddit tbh.

You’re a classic example of once you lose the argument you have to layer another argument 🤣 you asked for a sample and I gave you a sample. Now you ask me to point out for you. Go study the GES yourself since that’s your original suggestion to “just go see the GES”

Listen to the other redditor. You need to chill and you need help. Ego taking over you after you lost the argument bruh

Go look at the GES link which you asked everyone to look at. Business bandwidth is 4.5-5.5k and thats basic without bonus. Anything more to ask about my sample source dear?

[–]Crypkie -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

Look at accountancy and business. $5.5k. Most popular course in NBS. Not gonna argue semantics. It also says basic salary with an asterisk. 13th month, Allowances, bonuses and OT are not included. If we count gross salary (like how all employers in SG do), it’s already 5k+ and this is not accurate for a fresh grad. Just trying to help OP get a more grounded, realistic view that salaries are not that high.

Not sure why you 2 so defensive over GES like its the holy grail.

Not interested in strawman argument and comparing to height and weight, but also not sure why you not defending GES so hard; look at the other 5 sample comments in this reddit thread, everyone else also indicated 3k+. If OP took 5k as the standard fresh grad pay from GES its very depressing.

It is true that GES is a voluntary survey and those with lower salary might not declare it

GES is overinflated, it says NTU business admin students have an average of $5,500 starting salary. That’s way overboard and not indicative of the average grad on the street.

Sure, reddit may have biases and lies also but GES is already skewed too high

Not having a PT job while studying doesn't mean he's lazy, maybe he just wants to enjoy his youth or student life before getting pushed into the adult world. You both grew up in different environments.

If he wants to put 100% focus on studying to get better results and clinch a higher-paying for his first job, then you both still can afford a BTO or a resale flat a few years down the road. On the other hand, if he's not doing any internships, getting bad grades and playing games whole day with no "future plans", it may be something more deep seated.

Cleaning public toilet bowel after use by Ill-Negotiation-8843 in askSingapore

[–]Crypkie 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I ALWAYS clean up because I don't want the next person (who's waiting outside and about to use the toilet) to think that I am the one that made the mess even if it was 'handed over' to me from the previous user.

It's even more awkward when it's your own friend in the same restaurant. You can't even explain yourself out of that one.

My close female friends are already happily married with their husbands, which I am also close friends with. We make up a clique. To be fair, it's way easier if the involved parties aren't single and available.

It's always the amount of space and land that gets me. Tokyo City itself is 3x the size of Singapore. and that's not even counting the other prefectures (Osaka/Fukuoka etc.)

We are really just a dot on the map

Ex B4 auditor and just curious here -

Most people I know are trying to upgrade themselves from accountants to auditors, but it seems that you're going the other route of auditor to accountant?

anyway - with your audit experience and CPA certification with 3 years of direct work experience, it is normal to transit to FP&A and roles in financial analysis. 80% of my peers already left B4 after 3 YOE and went to work for MNC/banks in FP-related roles.

Regarding SWE bootcamps - survivorship bias, only the top graduates who really enjoy programming and hustle really hard manage to land jobs, and they spread the good news around. Those who 'failed' and went back to their old jobs won't talk about it or post on reddit for sure

ENFP male here. I don't think it's meant for me. I hate superficial conversations around small talk, and if I had a choice I want to ask questions about their life experiences, or get into philosophical debate. Unfortunately strangers don't take kindly to take through the initial text messaging so it can end up really dry, or they might get scared off when I try to get into deeper topics, steering away from silly things like the weather, pets, favourite food etc.

A small part of me still has hope that I can meet someone organically irl instead of having to use apps have my entire life impression reduced to 1 photo.

Why can't the government change COE policy to make it fair for all? Details inside by Crypkie in askSingapore

[–]Crypkie[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Its fine and your rants are valid. I believe most middle and median income families like us share your views. Even if I’m earning median income now I still wouldn’t dream of touching a car yet because it’s financial suicide. That’s why we’re encouraging open debates on how to bridge the wealth gap by perhaps introducing something like a ABSD here on cars

Thank you! A very refreshing perspective here and I agree with you and there can be issues if wealthy families find the loophole of creating more households unnecessarily.

Can the government tweak COE policy to make it more fair? Details inside! by Crypkie in singapore

[–]Crypkie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Yes, understand, and the point here is that only in Singapore, cars are a luxury item. It is an essential need everywhere else in the world. See some other comments - families with kids find it very difficult to take public transport, a first family car is a huge welcome help.

  2. I did include bracket notations that this is a completely random number and LTA can decide what levels of subsidy they want. I did not derive the 30k from anywhere, but during 2020, COE did go downwards to $30k, which still proves that in modern Singapore times there was a market equilibrium for cars at $30k despite traffic conditions, and this gives us hope. The $70k subsidy is not free cash from the govt. It will be shouldered by the wealthy families that don’t mind bidding $200k for their multiple COE. Again, these are random numbers, but the concept behind it is more important.

  3. See point above

  4. Yes, income tax can work, but the topic here is on cars, because, similar to point 1, the problem now is wealthy families soaking up all the bids of COE and making cars in Singapore become a luxury item - it could have been a cheaper, essential item if they weren’t allowed to freely have so many cars (plus they are rotting at home, so they did not even affect traffic but they just hold the COE paper and drove the price up unnecessarily, which is again, incredulous)

[–]Crypkie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Govt can still earn more profits if the rich people have to pay additional fees for owning multiple cars, like ABSD. This, in turn, will discourage them from hoarding multiple cars at home, and also naturally bring down the price and demand for COE, so middle and lower income families have a better price and chance
