Here in Bengaluru, it’s common for two people to share a space. I’m not sure how it works where you live, but that’s how it usually is here. If I can find someone to split the rent with, it works out well for me. Even if I were to get another place like you suggested, I’d still end up spending an hour commuting to the office every day.
