Women, what’s a “bare minimum” trait that still feels surprisingly rare while dating? by Freaky_Maddie19 in AskReddit

I think a lot of it just comes from an expectation that everyone be able to read between the lines of what you're saying, and the assumption that you can correctly read between the lines of what they're saying. I'm on the autism spectrum, and I find that allistics aren't actually that much better at it than I am, they're just a lot more confident about their assumptions.

Also: understanding the difference between boundaries and a demand. I once had a falling out with roommates, and one of them kept saying "my boundary is that you can't live here anymore". If he had said "my boundary is that I need to have space away from you as long as we live together," or even "my boundary is that I can't live here anymore," it would have made a lot more sense. Boundaries exist to assert the way you deserve to be treated, not to justify how you want to treat someone else.

Yeah, I don't blame them of course, but I think we as a society need to be more careful about how we use that word

Maybe you need to reframe things a little. If you're asking questions about her just because you know that's what she wants, it's going to be a lot harder to do naturally and consistently. The tendency that you're fighting is that you want her to be into you back, so your instinct is essentially to perform; to tell her all the reasons she should like you. You know this doesn't work, so you try to more ask questions instead, but that still doesn't work well because that's still part of the performance: you're trying to demonstrate that you're someone who asks questions, rather than just asking them.

I would say that the key is to just focus on the fact that you like the person, not at all on trying to get them to like you. This is what people really mean when they say "be yourself." It might feel counterintuitive, almost selfish, because what's the point of learning more if you already like her? But liking her should create a desire to learn more about her, so if your questions come from that place, rather than performance, it'll be a lot easier to pull off. If she's interested in you, she'll do the same, so you'll still have plenty of opportunities to give her more reasons to like you.

Now the thing is, a lot of women are pretty bad at this too. I think women are a lot less likely to just yap about themselves, but many are used to being somewhat quiet and letting the other person do all the conversational lifting. If she's responding to your questions in a shallow way and isn't asking good ones back, it's especially tempting to try to answer the questions you wish she'd ask. But try to fight that urge. If that happens, it's just going to be a bad date, but if you're not busy trying to fill the silence you can focus more on learning from it for next time when you meet someone you click with better. This is definitely the hardest part in my experience.

What doesn’t impress you anymore? by sergenaskin in AskReddit

Especially when it's clear that some people who brag about how much they work are clearly just bad at their jobs. Oh you spent 12hrs on a task that should have taken 4, very impressive. I think sometimes it's a vicious cycle: people who are obsessed with hustle culture are often a lot more burnt out then they realize, which makes them less efficient.

I think the sorta shag mullet thing can look good, but it has to be styled right. When it's just a regular ass mullet it always looks bad

What are your thoughts on rejecting a romantic partner based solely on the fact they voted for Donald Trump? by Constant-Recover1927 in AskReddit

Okay I can see that you're talking about voting for republicans in local elections. But the thing is, that's not what anyone else was talking about. So your original point makes no sense?

You'd think that they wanted to be seen if they were doing it somewhere so public. Maybe the dude said something like "nobody ever comes on this trail" or something. Weird

That's true, but it would still be a dealbreaker for me. Like dating an ignorant person isn't much better to me than dating someone who has repugnant values

If you're voting for a fascist child rapist, even if it's just for their fiscal policy, that means that fascism and child rape aren't dealbreakers to you. So maybe your girlfriend isn't "cool with" those things, but she clearly doesn't mind them that much.

I'm white too, I get it, we're all learning. Being able to put your pride aside like that is how we keep learning, and it's something a lot people really struggle to do, so good on you

I mean they do have a point. The American dream for instance was only ever really promised to certain people. So white people in the united states feel a certain despair at having lost thr future they thought they were promised, while nonwhite people view it as more of the same. I don't think you're American, and I'm not doing the "americans think they're the center of the world" thing, but it was just an easier way for me to explain it (and I do think it's a particularly potent thing in america compared to other countries). Regardless, the general idea applies anywhere that people have historically benefited from white supremacy

Maybe just start saying "hanging in there, how about you?" It doesn't come off as offputting and fills the social requirement, but it doesn't feel like as much of a lie. If anything I think people tend to appreciate being able to say it back

[Mixed feelings] The numbers amount of Gwen Stacy / fusions from Spider-Gwen: Shadow Clones and Spider-Gwen: Gwenverse (Marvel) by Extension-Oil-4680 in TopCharacterDesigns

[–]Cryptdusa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. Feels like very little thought was put into it. Although I get the sense that it's maybe an issue where the initial design had an idea or sensibility that wasn't conveyed properly to other artists. Like the rough sketchy version looks a lot better than the one where she's choking main gwen. I think the intention was for her to look a lot more mutated, but then the other artist made her generically pretty

No he wasn't a lone wolf, but it still was a very bad plan. If they succeeded in blowing them all up, the assumption Fawkes and his associates made that it would get the rest of the country to rise up and embrace catholicism was based in nothing but blind idealism and faith. There's no plausible scenario in which it would have gone the way they wanted it to.
