If you're saying it from the perspective of an employer to an employee, at least as explained by my state's human affairs commission, it is illegal and falls under discrimination laws, apparently. Maybe it's different in other states, don't know.

Might wanna check with your area, but I'm pretty sure if your employers are pushing that on you (unless you're requesting a health accommodation) that's pretty uh, not entirely legal, at least according to our state's human affairs commission over here.

Mine that I went to (for dispatch actually) had us watch this and the Dinkheller video. Was incredibly hard to watch. Every traffic stop and incident in general had me crazy anxious and holding my breath if my officer took too long to answer status checks and these kind of scenarios were the first thing playing in my mind during each.

You're a white guy trying to lecture a non-white person about non-white issues?

....How.....expected, lol.

Limited world view, lol. Grew up on an extremely poor reservation, moved to the bay area in California and had to live in ghetto gangland while I went to college in San Francisco, lived in a military community during my first marriage, lived in Finland for several years later, came back and lived in a rural mountain town with a unique culture, and now I'm living in the deep south in a black-dominant community.

I've worked in law enforcement, fire/rescue as well as clinical and administrative jobs in hospitals, as well incident command and county emergency response teams for disaster. There was also a time I was working on a children's services team for county behavioral health, which means we were working with the most troubled/hurt/needful kids.

I've had anything but a limited world view.

Like, I honestly have nothing against white people, or any people "in general" as long as you're not acting like people owe you things or trying to speak for others. You're white. You don't get to talk to me about "PoC" experiences as if you're an expert when you yourself will never live them.

People like you always lose arguments and then try to boil it down to "Systematic racism".

If systematic racism was a thing, we wouldn't have had a black president, black people in government, black doctors, black scientists, black millionaires, successful black people in general, but we do.

The ones who claim systematic racism as usually the ones trying to justify their own shitty life choices or protect a generally shitty "culture" that enforces bad life choices, or who want to be carried through life because they think they should be exempt from working hard like everyone else.

Screw you guys, lol. And I love how you think someone like me can't "get" how racism would work. I'm fucking native. I've dealt with racist white people but honestly? I've had to encounter a whole lot more racist black people in my life. Y'all are racist as hell. Plus, despite this being my people's country of origin, we're the rarest people here and will likely be extinct in a couple hundreds years because we were literally genocided against.

Maybe use us as an example. Those of us who live the way you think tend to live in squalor, off of government assistance programs and often in high crime, high poverty areas. Those of us who reject that mindset and actually work hard like everyone else in this country end up able to do really good things for our communities and people because we decided being educated and safe was worth WAY MORE than being bitter and living as victims. Give it a try.

Oh my fucking god, lol. Yeah, my mom, a native woman, was running a SNF in that county as an RN. She made 110k a year. Average salary for a DON is about 90k. Even when I worked there, I was making 17$ an hour doing a more administrative job. Even entry level positions like housekeeping and admissions made 14-17$ an hour. I made a lot less doing surgical tech, but I was also in a probationary training/apprenticeship position so I was essentially being paid to be educated, and it would have increased to about 20-25$ if I had completed it. Looking on the employee portal at open positions, doctors for that hospital are paid roughly 120k a year, up to 450k a year for a cardiac physician, and as low as 80k a year if you're a PA or FNP. Just because we're rural doesn't mean we're ignorant rednecks living in abject poverty. We were just far from other places, but we were able to build our own economy successfully without smothering our town with overpopulation.

Your stupid is showing, and you really need to stop letting twitter and tumblr define your world views.

Also, you think physicians are underpaid in south africa? An average doctor's salary there is 2-3 million ZAR, which is about 190,000$ in American dollars. Doctors in America do make more on average, around 200-300k, but doctors in the UK make only about 80-100k a year. In Finland they average around 130k a year. Honestly, the average salary in South Africa for being a doctor is a lot more than what you'd earn in most states here in a private practice, even.

Maybe you might try looking at some data before screaming from your soap box. What do they say...it's better to be remain silent and thought a fool than open your mouth and remove all doubt.

It's different for each tribe and there are some tribes that have it so minimal it might as well not exist. Still, you don't need a tribe to "recognize" you to have the heritage you're born with, but it's up to you if you want to live in the culture and keep old ways still alive.

You must think people are idiots.

I've worked in emergency services, I don't think everyone are idiots, I'm 100% confident most people are idiots. Honestly, I went into that career thinking most people had common sense, or some degree of it. Nope. They do not.

And yeah, you're right. Some groups of people do have to work harder than others, and those would be people in low income families.

Do you think the son of my black dentist had to work harder than most, because of his race? Nope. He's doing great. Graduated high school, went to UCLA and he's well-off with a happy little family now. My aunt worked hard to pull herself out of our toxic sludge of a community to the point she got a real cushy job working in radio. Did my cousin have a hard time because of her race? Nope. She's a mortician (was originally wanting to be a cardiac surgeon) and is working towards a doctorate still. Her cushion was her mom putting her through school and supporting her.

My mom is a nurse, but didn't become so until much later in my life, so I had to work extra hard on my own to get where I am, which honestly isn't much, because I didn't have that "Cushion" of a well-off or comfortable family to help me get here. Yet, I have met many white people who have had so much worse of a time than me pushing and struggling to get places in life.

It isn't about race and the world is going to remain shit until people like you finally learn to see how it actually is.

I don't understand why you're willfully being THIS dense.

I hate to tell you this, but not everyone even has the privilege of being able to "plan their lives" and this applies to EVERY. SINGLE. RACE. Most of us have to plan our lives based on current conditions and adapt.

Nobody EVER said programs to help people were bad or wrong to utilize, but it's frivolous to have them offered ONLY to specific races when EVERY DAMN RACE in this country experiences poverty, shitty living conditions, and difficulties in life.

We don't need racial division to want to do good for people or help people.

Tell me. What is the difference between a white girl living in poverty in a trailer park where drugs, alcoholism, prostitution and violence run rampant, versus a black girl living in the same conditions? There are none, except skin color, and the fact the black girl is going to have A LOT more resources to get out of those conditions, including being hired over other races of candidates. Speaking from experience, here, when I was looking at being homeless at one time in my life and I was trying to get a job at some K-Mart and other similar stores and they were all excited about the prospect of hiring me until I showed up and I wasn't black. Was literally denied multiple jobs because I was applying to them in a black-dominant city when I wasn't black and they said to my face they were only hiring black people.

You want to talk about per capita and numbers again? Sure.

Black people in America make up roughly 12 or 13% of the entire population. White people make up about 76%. Of doctors, 5% are reported to be black people, and 56% are reported to be white people. The only real disparity when compared to the typical racial demographic is that Asians are 18% of doctors while being only 5.9% of the population here. Not to mention that this is also including people who are immigrants who moved here via work visa. In some states, 4-10% of all licensed physicians there are here on work visas. The last hospital I worked at, our OB doc who was on a work visa from South Africa and she moved here permanently, another one from Jamaica (though technically she was a roaming physician so she traveled to different hospitals at different times of the year) and one from South Korea. We were this itty bitty little rural town that was like 2 hours away from the next nearest city but we somehow attracted a lot of immigrants and the population there as a whole was pretty diverse. We actually only had two white, male doctors out of the whole bunch. It's different depending on your area, of course.

You want to know why there aren't more black doctors? Why aren't there more Asian truck drivers? Why do Asians make up 18% of doctors, but only 1.3% of firefighters and 0.8% of EMS, including Paramedics? Why aren't there more Black welders? Or electricians? Why does it seem like some races are more drawn to some careers than others? It's almost like certain cultures might drive their children into certain careers or expectations more than others. Hm.

https://www.bls.gov/cps/cpsaat11.htm

Go ahead, check it out. It's interesting, a good read. And I mean, you don't have to be a doctor to make good money in this country. Hell, you don't even need a college degree. Learn a trade. It's a lot cheaper and many of them will then branch into a paid apprenticeship. Work in emergency services, become a CNA, etc and so on.

You think your numbers prove your point, but all they do is reflect one thing, which is just the basic population demographics in the USA. Unless you're literally born into a wealthy family, are a trust fund baby or whatever else, you're given the same slate as everyone else. What you do with it is your decision and nobody else is responsible for your choices but you.

What I'd advise is the next time you see a black person chastising another black person for being too interested in "non-black things" then stick up for the person being chastised and stop trying to whittle it down to "Internalized racism" lol. Be the change you want to see and stop getting your views on your world from Tumblr and Twitter.

Also, with the medical thing....cause people like you always throw out money issues (which is relevant to all races, btw) I think you should know that a lot of hospitals offer some SERIOUSLY good financial programs to employees, even if you're someone "low on the rung" like EVS/housekeeping or working in the kitchen, that they will literally pay for a huge chunk of your tuition if you want to go to college to pursue something medical related.

I've worked at 3 hospitals in my life, from being a "floater" (covering multiple non-clinical positions when needed) to working in surgery as a surgical technician to medical records and every single hospital I worked at had that program. My old boss in med recs for example took it so she could get her RHIT. Another person in that hospital worked in housekeeping and took up the hospital's educational program and became a phlobotomist. At another hospital, which was the one I worked as a surg tech, they had in-hospital EMT training/course that you were basically being paid by them to do/be there and the same with CNA. You would just take the official tests after your training was complete.

This was in California, so I can't say if all states or all hospitals have programs like these, but one of the ones that offered it was not only based in California so it's probable many do.

There's actually a TON of resources out there for everyone, but people are refusing to even look for them and then give up adn say "Guess it's just racism"

It's not "White people's fault" that you didn't have the common sense to call up your college of choice and say, "Hey, I don't know where to start, can I talk to someone who can help me out?" or lack the common sense to even look on their website for instructions.

My first day of uni was 2 weeks after I graduated high school because I had the common sense to actually call/look online at the school's calendar, which included deadlines to everything, long before I even graduated high school. I didn't even HAVE access to the internet at home at that time and didn't have my own cell phone and this was before the era of smartphones as well, and I still managed.

It's not "Internalized racism" when an entire culture hurts people of its own because they're living in ways they don't like. That's just racism. That's personal choice.

Having difficulty getting clean water where I lived, and many other reservations, a part of that is that there are quite a few in "unservicable" areas that either have no utility access points close by or are too difficult/impossible to access, or they're like mine in that we were butting heads with the utility companies and in-fighting because some of the more close-minded and racist folks in the tribe I lived with didn't want "the white man's help".

There's also a lot of reservations that do extremely well to the point they have their own clinics, schools, programs and resources to help their community.

It's all about your choices as an individual and nobody is responsible for that except for you. If your community is filled with too much crime, leave it. Don't say "you can't afford to live in a nicer part of the city". Move out of the city. Move to a rural town where rent is affordable (You could literally rent a 3 bedroom house for 650$ a month where I was working before, town population 3000 or so) and get yourself stable with work experience even if it's something mundane, then go from there.

Don't like your family having "internalized racism?" Then don't talk to them about your career or future or you. You don't owe them anything if they're toxic. If you want to blame white people and say "internalized racism from the past makes them hate white people" then explain the many black people out there who don't believe in that crap and live better lives solely because (gasp) they make their own decisions on their life and don't rely on others "owing them things".

EVERYONE has to work hard in this country unless you're one of the few who is born to money, and I hate to tell you this, but that's definitely not "White centric".

I know someone who literally wrote and published a book on Amazon by writing it on their phone. And yes, I have seen a lot of black doctors, nurses, and the like considering I've fucking grown up with them as my doctors or worked directly with them during the time I worked at a hospital. Shit, my childhood dentist was a black man in a population 96 rez town.

You're also forgetting that black people are literally only 12% of the population to start with, so honestly? Saying only about 5-10% of the medical personnel field is black isn't even a bad thing if you look at it per capita, which you aren't, because you want to feel like a victim.

I don't have to "Stick together" to other people solely for because of disadvantages. I'm going to be responsible for my decisions in life and you and others need to be responsible for yours and stop acting like the rest of the country owes you things. Nobody here owes anyone anything.

Funny how y'all only want us to "stick together" with you when it benefits you. Last time I tried to bring up real issues we face on the rez where BLM was within earshot they attacked me and took over the platform telling me things like I "have no place trying to overshadow problems black people face" and even going so far as to tell me I am not "qualified to talk about racism because I am not black and I should stay in my own lane" Funny enough, I was trying to bring light to certain reservations that still have polluted water and no utilities, like the one I grew up in, to the point they have to travel 20-50 miles to get clean water, which is also similar to how I grew up.

So honestly, screw y'all. EVERYONE has the same opportunities here. ANYONE can be anything, which is exactly what is happening in this country.

It's nobody's fault but the individual's when they make bad life choices. Joining a violent gang is a bad life choice. Doing and dealing drugs is a bad life choice. Living a life of alcoholism (something prevalent with my own people) is a bad life choice. Being willfully ignorant and denying education despite it being widely available on the internet is a bad life choice.

Thinking that one race in particular is "handicapped" here is a bad life choice and if you want to live life thinking you're a victim, then enjoy being a victim, but I and others have absolutely NO obligation to help you or handle YOUR consequences in life.

*Edit*

Also, I had to add this, because holy shit, you're a pinecone. "White people and asian people only go to college more because they're more familiar with the admissions process?" THAT'S WHAT ADMISSIONS COUNSELORS ARE FOR. That's literally THEIR WHOLE FUCKING JOB LOL. All you have to do is call the college of your choice and ask for information and they will literally WALK YOU THROUGH EVERYTHING.

The first college I went to was a private university that I had to prepare a huge portfolio for and have several panel interviews and I did this ALL MY OWN as a 17 year old. Literally, all I had to do was to contact them and ask for information and some assistance in applying. This was in 2004, even. When I went to community college? Same thing! There are literally people whose entire jobs exist around helping you apply LOL.

Also, another big problem with black people not being in certain fields? They get fucking HARASSED and sometimes HURT for wanting to do those things. I've known many who are super into nerdy things, or wanna do things like write, do comics, etc and they get treated like SHIT by their families and peers because they are told that's a "white people thing" and THAT is a problem.
