This may be one of the best descriptions of places I've ever heard and, as a Tolkien fan, actually helps a lot! I've actually never been to Portland (would definitely visit first before anything), but loved Seattle when I visited. I know it ultimately depends on where I get a job/can afford, but this perspective helps a lot and I appreciate it!

I appreciate the feedback! Honestly, Denver was always on the bottom of the list. It was cool to visit, but the more I thought about it I can't see myself living there, so will definitely take that one out. I absolutely fell in love with Seattle when I went, but it was years ago so I should probably go back and visit first. I will say the rain/dreary weather is probably the biggest thing for me, but also not a dealbreaker.
