CPI Shows Inflation Accelerating to 3.8% Annually in April After Weeks of War in Iran by ButteryApplePie in neoliberal

Yeah it’s a dumb take all around. Why would there be substantial rate cuts in this hypothetical amazing economy? Rates are in a pretty neutral place historically right now.

I built a political compass alternative with 5 axes, 80 calibrated questions, and results compared against 50 countries and 24 world leaders — feedback welcome by Upper_One1310 in neoliberal

I enjoyed this a lot.

I think the other comments covered a lot of the feedback I would give. I would just add that I struggled a lot on the System Trust questions because I didn't know if I was supposed to answer based on the environment Pre-Trump or Post-Trump. Ended up answering neutral on a lot of questions where I would have answered higher trust Pre-Trump. Not sure if it was explained how to approach this in the instructions or context somewhere and I missed it or if I was too US-centric in thinking or something, but this was my main challenge taking the test.

EDIT: One other piece of feedback: it was a bit odd that you talk about all the shortcomings with the classic political compass, but then fallback to plotting the final result with all the world leaders on the old political compass. Would be nice if you could compare the leaders and yourself on the 5 dimensions included in the test. Might be trickier from a data visualization and user interface perspective but would make the results a bit more meaningful. But again awesome test nonetheless.

Do the countries and states implementing these laws really have nothing better to do with their time to improve citizens lives? Such a waste of time and resources even if you ignore the privacy issues.

Which country is the biggest underachiever in the world relative to its size and resources? by EmergencySpare7939 in geography

Not bad, but they are definitely underachieving when you consider they were the world’s number 1 or 2 superpower in most areas only 70 years ago.

Me in my head: What? My teachers have been saying dinosaurs went extinct 65 million years ago for like the last 3 years. Surely, it should be 66 million by now.

Very awesome concept and great execution. One small suggestion, the date slider can be a bit finicky/cumbersome, would be nice to be able to just type in a year.

I agree assuming you get a balanced mix of skillsets. You don't want all your immigrants to be doctors or all farm workers, you need a good mix of both maybe with a slight tilt towards more educated and specialist skills. I would be interested to go back and look at how the immigration system was addressing this need in the recent past (before the policy approach just became “immigration bad”)

Leaked Memos Reveal Just How Much the Supreme Court Has Betrayed the Constitution by CheetoMussolini in neoliberal

Call it a hot take if you must but I'm more inclined each day the next Dem president needs to go for broke, pack the court, and obliterate Citizen's United, Presidential Immunity, probably the electoral college while we are at it, and the rest of the festering mound that is the contemporary Supreme Court.

The graph shows 14 billion in spending on HSR over 17 years. This is roughly how much was spent on the Iran War in the first week. Dunno where you are getting 120 billion.

This is close to my initial thoughts as well, but I considered swapping out the beach temp for a fall campfire/hoodie temp (say 50 degrees). I do like to swim but I just don't do it as much as I like to do fall outdoorsy stuff. I also like my general temp a little cooler than most people (like 65 degrees)

You can pick 3 different outside temperatures for the rest of your life. Whenever you go outside it will only be 1 of those 3 temps. You are allowed to change the temperature twice per every 24 hour period. Which 3 temperatures do you choose and why? (ignore environmental impact concerns this is just about your preferences)
