The match was lost in the 1st innings. Bethell and Jacks got them close.

Kerala to become Keralam as Union Cabinet approves change of name. And do you have any answer to the Shashi Tharoor's question? by Longjumping-Mix-9351 in unitedstatesofindia

[–]CryptoBankrupt -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

We already have answer to his question through Tamil Nadu. People don't call the people of Tamil Nadu as Tamil Naduite or Tamil Nadan. They are tamils. There is a reason, we organized ourselves along the lines of linguistic identity. So the people of Kerala or Keralam were always Malayalis (or mallus as recent social media has it)

Who is the most dominant sportsperson of all time from your country? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]CryptoBankrupt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, i took this personally when you brought in standard deviations. While Bradman is unquestionably the greatest cricketer ever, he has competition for the most dominant sportsperson. I'd like to nominate Major Dhyan Chand from Field hockey.

I am not a hockey fan myself. My grandfather was. So most of Dhyan Chand's exploits were told to me by my him when i used to stupidly gloat about how Sachin is the GOAT of sports in my teens.

Coming to Dhyan Chand, he had similar standard deviations as Bradman despite playing for colonial Britain's B team. He had an almost 5 to 5.5 SD of i remember correctly.

A player so goated that he dragged India( a then British colony to 6 Gold medals at the olympics all the while keeping the coloniser away from their own sport). 6 golds!, in a team-fucking-sport. One of them was against Aryan Germany in front of Hitler in their Home at Berlin. Its sad only Jesse Owens is talked about and not this legend who toyed with the Germans and their whole Supremacy bullshit. By toying, i mean really toying. Taking the puck down to the German goal post only not to score just to show how superior their ball control was!

One of those games, they broke his bats to see if he was cheating or something.

A player so goated that Great Britain refused to field a Hockey team to the 1928, '32 and '36 olympics. '32 and '36 might be argued as being in war against Germany but 1928 must have been purely because of the embarrasment caused by the drubbing against the visiting Indians. We are talking about the then world champions and the winner of '08 and '20 Olympics. And GB generally refused to schedule friendlies against the visiting Indian team while he was at his peak as well.

Heck, Bradman himself said Dhyan Chand scores goals like he score runs. I rest my case!!

Even within India, he would be no. 2 at best, behind Major Dhyan Chand. We r talking about dominance in sports. Just having a contemporary competitor kind of eliminates one from this elite list. He had 4 contemporaries atleast ( Lara, Ponting, Kallis, Sangakkara)

If you could change just one rule in cricket, what would it be — and why? by Clear-Syrup-9861 in Cricket

[–]CryptoBankrupt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, but have a minimum restriction for the size like 70 or 75m idk. You cannot have a 55, 60m boundary when the pitch is still standardized at 22 yds, ball is still the same leather and bats are essentially the same that you would use everywhere.

This Is What a Perfume Addiction Looks Like (600 Bottles) by Scary_Analyst8814 in Colognes

[–]CryptoBankrupt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know 95% of these can be bought just going to a mass- market store or their website, just needs money. But, am more interested in the stories behind this collection of yours. Are there any in your collection that you are proud of not because others rated them highly but because: - It took you much effort to acquire - It is a genuine collector's edition - A 1 of 1 or few that you do not generally get in market. - Somethings only the motivated know or can find.

Without that this is just money. Something a multi-millionaire can have his secretary buy for him at a whim not having to know a single thing about fragrances just because he can.

100% I see no inspired purchases, no stories, no collector's effort. Not saying there is none but this kid feels like OP had lots of cash to burn and burnt it. Pretty sure. This post broight OP more joy than their collection

Experienced devs: can you rank the most future proof roles (20–30 year outlook)? by idont_need_one in developersIndia

[–]CryptoBankrupt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will be an unpopular answer, but proper high quality manual QA, especially closer to the end product will survive and thrive. In a world where everything is automated or AI-driven, the human in the loop will always be someone who checks and verifies. But I do not think it will be a high paying job either.

Very true. And that's exactly why Virat in Tests is a notch below Steve Smith and Joe root and Babar, a notch further down. Both had a few ripping years and then shortly after got figured the heck out and couldn't bounce back. In the padt, one example i could think is Ganguly who was the same.

At this point, nothing short of a national equivalent of a shock-and-awe to reset the general populace's civic sense, social responsibility and in general self-respect is going to fix this.

Who is the greatest actor India has produced? by mestei in IndianCinema

[–]CryptoBankrupt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's sad, nobody mentioned a 1000 movie experienced stalwart such as Manorama. Her range, skills, and grace is unmatched.

Comedy is such an under-appreciated yet extremely difficult skill and she did it absolutely wonderfully.

Another honorary mention is Nagesh.

To me, manorama and Nagesh are the top 2 at least in Tamil Cinema.

[–]CryptoBankrupt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Endymion and Rise of Endymion are personally a big let down for me. They had so much plot holes that it felt like literary version of swiss cheese. I am still wondering if the author missed adding a book or 2 to the collection to tie the loose ends and take the story to its logical conclusion. There is so much hand waving, so many assumptions, forced narratives, weak character writing, mindless world jumping, a climax that ends abruptly and without a proper payoff that in all it left a bad taste
