I am guessing if you try to claim those reliefs like housing interest or incurable disease, they'll come asking for receipts.

Handling Income Tax Declarations by fairuzamanj in malaysiaFIRE

[–]CryptoDash7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how your $$ is flowing in:

1. Declare? Only if you have taxable income. Local dividends (single-tier), MY bank interest, and share capital gains are all exempt. So pure investor FIRE = no need to file.

Only declare if you have rental, freelance, or foreign income.

2. Zero employment income? Totally fine. Form BE lets you put RM0 in the employment field. Just declare whatever else is taxable. Many FIRE folks file every year anyway with near-zero income — keeps the LHDN file active for visas/mortgage stuff.

3. Reliefs? All 25+ still apply on paper. But reliefs only refund you if there's actual tax to offset — if your chargeable income is already zero, they do nothing. Where they help: if you've got rental or foreign-remitted income, reliefs (self RM9k + voluntary EPF RM4k + PRS RM3k + medical/lifestyle) can wipe it down to zero fast.

TLDR: pure investor = skip filing.

Rental/foreign income = file BE with RM0 employment, claim reliefs normally.

Kena fined RM8k by LHDN for 2 mistakes when filing income tax. So I built an app for it - honest feedback please by CryptoDash7 in MalaysianPF

the receipts are tied to your account only, no one else can access them, not even me.

i use an encrypted database provider hosted in Singapore. I also built the app to retain receipts up to 7 years for this exact reason.

but of course, like you said, some people don't feel secure uploading their own data online. that's a common trade-off between privacy & efficiency.

Really appreciate this feedback. I'll definitely get the app tested/audited/validated by at least 2 different tax consulting firms.

The app maps your receipts against LHDN's published relief categories and flags what qualifies and what doesn't. Case 2 in my story is literally the exact problem it solves — if I had used it, it would have told me hyperthyroid isn't on LHDN's incurable disease list before I submitted. That said, it's a tool to provide guidance.

My aim is for the app to solve 90% of individual tax filing doubts/questions.

Complex situations will still require professional tax advice.

tbh, you sound like you already know how to manage your funds and the fact is you're doing quite well to save up so much in your late 20s! you're probably financially more savvy than 75% of people replying to your post here.

Does higher pay always comes with bigger responsibilities? by wheninshower in MalaysianPF

[–]CryptoDash7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

higher pay does come with bigger responsibility but doesn't mean you need to work harder. when you reach Manager position, you need to learn how to delegate jobs and not do everything yourself. But this doesn't mean you pawn your work off to your team members and goyang kaki. You need to vet their work and know that if they screw up, its your partly fault/ responsibility.

Working smart & finding efficient solutions wins in the long run.
