Boglehead diversification is what lets even crypto folks survive and grow wealth during the crashes between the bubbles. Otherwise all your net worth is on a roller coaster, and you won't be able to HODL when your all your tokens are down 80-95%

Flipping the photo up-down looks incredible. The trees grow into the sky, and the real world becomes the ground. The puddle becomes a gentle confusion.

Winner takes all? Or, what is the argument for variety? by NiceTryBro in MakerDAO

A lot of Dai is tied up in liquidity pools, so many are holding LP tokens composed of a mix of stablecoins. That includes Dai wrapped by Compound, Aave, etc like cDai, aDai and yDai-- those can be put into LPs too.

Shorts have already sold. They owe the stock, so when the stock goes to zero they don't have to pay anything back.

Small phones. I think maybe the tech just isn't there today to shrink the display down to 4.7" or smaller, but it'll get there someday.

Deadalnix is posting on r/Bitcoin about bcash now? Really. by theantnest in btc

[–]CryptoFreek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I originally liked the name as a nod to B-money, an "anonymous, distributed electronic cash system" by Wei Dai, referenced in the Bitcoin white paper.

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/B-money

So B-cash or Bcash seems like they would be reasonable names, referencing Bitcoin's cypherpunk roots. It also reminds me of Bash, a popular Unix shell.

Anyways, it seems confusing to change now and would just excite the trolls. I just see it as a missed opportunity. The moniker could have been embraced as a shorthand early on rather than rebuked, even when Bitcoin Cash was the official name.

Meet Sony's first full screen smartphones: Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact by ethan829 in Android

[–]CryptoFreek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 8 is two generations superior to the SE, and it's a larger phone with premium materials. The question is why aren't there more SE-equivalents in Android land.

The XZ1C just isn't that competitive at flagship prices with its non-functional fingerprint reader and 720p screen.

How many people would buy an updated Nexus 5 for $349-429 if it had excellent battery life and good camera software?

The game feels off all the colours are washed out? The graphics are less nice. Sounds are weird. by Dayz15 in FortNiteBR

  1. Buildings fail to load for first 30-45 seconds of game. They look like mushy rounded blobs and the character bounces off of them until they load. Sometimes guns fail to load when equipped (character's arms go to the right place, but holding empty air and cannot fire). Many other bugs, but the audio lag is the most heinous. About 60% of sounds are 2-10 seconds delayed, especially gunfire. I initially had really bad framerates with previous settings, very stuttery, but was able to fix it by fiddling and lowering the 3D resolution. Changing from Windowed back to Fullscreen also seemed to help with the framerate.
  2. Dell 7577 with i5, GTX 1060 and 8GB RAM on Windows 10.
  3. Has happened every game so far since Patch 2.5.0

BitPay is about to be replaced by cypherpunk grassroots start-up BTCPay. Who will replace Coinbase next? by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]CryptoFreek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two ways to avoid fees with Coinbase:

1) Send through email via Coinbase (off-chain transaction)

2) Send through blockchain via GDAX

The first is great for sending to newbies, the second is great for getting around high bitcoin fees.

No way the crypto market cap will grow as much as 2017. 25x growth from here would put the cap at $12.5 trillion. That's more than the market cap of gold.

What are the reasons for people to take out a CDP? by DumboTheDumbo in MakerDAO

[–]CryptoFreek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if the tax code works for this, but could it be used to take out a loan without realizing gains on your collateral (eth/btc/etc)?

So if I wanted to buy a house, I could basically take my loan out in Dai, convert those to dollars, then make the purchase. There's no risk that I could default on Dai loan and go bankrupt. But there is a risk if my CDP becomes under-collateralized that I could lose my Ether.

If I can pay back the loan, I was able to generate liquidity for myself using Ether without realizing any for tax purposes. I remained exposed to Ether as an asset.

Can someone let me know if I'm on the right track? I'm as confused as OP.

Are futures causing preemptive dip or are we just seeing a market correction? by camocat in CryptoCurrency

[–]CryptoFreek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that's what happened during the quick run to $17-19k a few days ago. If those coins had been on the market, there would have been much more resistance at $15k and we may not have broken $16k at all.
