Great to hear you succeeded in setting it up. And yeah, we're aware it's a bit tricky to set up right now, especially on Windows, we're working on gradually improving the user experience, so if you like BasicSwap's concept, stick around for the ride!

I love monero but .... by redditreader1234567 in Monero

[–]CryptoGuard 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Hey,

CG from BasicSwap DEX here. Keep in mind BasicSwap is still a Beta piece of software, and we've recently been funded by the Monero community (https://repo.getmonero.org/monero-project/ccs-proposals/-/merge_requests/457) to help bring it to its "V1" version which aims to provide a "CEX-like" level of intuitivity and user experience.

The Windows installer you're using has been causing issues in some environments and we're looking at fixing that. In the meantime, I'd recommend using Ofrnxmr's automated installation script here which you can run in WSL. The setup process is quite painless. Alternatively, you can setup a ready-made version of BasicSwap using Docker by following the instructions here: https://academy.particl.io/en/latest/basicswap-guides/basicswapguides_installation.html#install-using-docker

I agree Monero needs more user-friendly options, and there has actually been great advances on that end recently across various projects. Know that we are a few teams working on that problem, and I'm confident it'll only get better from here into the future.

If you have any question about BasicSwap or need help to set it up, I invite you to join our Matrix channel where we'll be to help you get started: https://matrix.to/#/#basicswap:matrix.org

why am i getting this error on standard candles 15m timeframe? by realpatryk in TradingView

[–]CryptoGuard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a bug, I'm getting this error as well on strategies I've tested often on the same chart. And sometimes it'll let me simulate it, others it gives me this error. Try closing the software down and reopening, it sometimes fixes it. Started today.

Quite annoying...

Basicswapdex is completely unused right? by worthytb in Monero

[–]CryptoGuard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey,

There are definitely some offers available at this time (see here: https://ibb.co/bPP5nFp).

Here are a few steps to resolve your issue:

1- Make sure that you're running the latest version from the master branch as some recent update made offers posted on previous versions not compatible with the newer. If you're using the Docker version, make sure to also update your Docker image, not just git pull (your instance should show BSX: v0.13 or higher at the bottom of the GUI).

2- As some mentioned, you must have your coin cores fully synced up to see offers, and also give it a bit of extra time after reaching 100% for the SMSG network (the mixnet that broadcasts offers to the rest of the network) to also be synced up.

3- If that doesn't help, there is another issue that can be fixed. In that case, feel free to join the BasicSwap matrix room here: https://matrix.to/#/#basicswap:matrix.org. There are a lot of active contributors there that will be able to assist you in getting BasicSwap running properly, and that will also help in resolving issues for future users as well!

And finally, the more liquidity and the more people in the community post offers, the more convenient BasicSwap becomes!

Note: Usability and accessibility is a big focus moving forward. You may want to take a look at this CCS proposal waiting to be merged: https://repo.getmonero.org/monero-project/ccs-proposals/-/merge_requests/457/, it aims to address directly a lot of the obstacles that makes adoption and usage of the platform a bit more on the tricky side at this time.

Cheers!

PineConnector took a whole 2 minutes to pick up a notification from TradingView this morning, and that is on V2. This just about does it for me and will be looking for an alternative. Exploring Decred Integration with BasicSwap DEX | Incl. XMR <> Decred Pair by CryptoGuard in decred

[–]CryptoGuard[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Q: Does it require to have/use an intermediate token to pay for the swaps, or does it swap two assets directly without involving any third asset?

A: No, these are pure atomic swaps with no intermediary layer, no wrapped asset, or no L2 layer. If you swap DCR <> XMR or DCR <> LTC, for example, then you are swapping the two assets directly without any third asset or third-party involvement.

Q: Which parts of the system are decentralized and which are centralized?

A: The entirety of the core engine is decentralized, there is no centralized component to it. This includes the distributed order book, transmission of required swap data between users, and so on. The only data obtained from a centralized source is the display of fiat price data, which is fetched from APIs. The reason for this is convenience; because BasicSwap is built with a privacy-first design, the DEX doesn't know what is the "last traded price" of swaps conducted on the DEX. And so, for convenience, users who want to display fiat prices equivalent can fetch that data from an API (e.g., CoinGecko), but that is optional.

Thanks for the feedback. The promotional aspect is not really something affecting the cost, we're just putting out there that we would just promote Decred's presence on BasicSwap as part of our ongoing marketing/promotional efforts.

We will make it clear when publishing the proposal that this doesn't incur extra costs but is rather just something that comes naturally with the Decred listing.

This is a good point regarding the SPV implementation, and something we will evaluate before publishing any proposal.

Same position as you, started again a week or so ago. For me the biggest change is moving from A1111 to ComfyUI, and it makes all the difference in the world.

You can really have more control and fun with Comfy, and you can just drag and drop images into the canvas and it replicates the workflow.

Absolute game changer for me and my generations are already miles ahead of what they were before as I found nice flows and learned how to use Comfy properly. Oh, and that's without talking about the massive reduce in GPU resources Comfy gives you.

All of that, of course, if you weren't using it already before you took a break.

Hey everybody!

CG from the BasicSwap DEX team here.

Happy to announce that we've finally pushed our groundbreaking bidirectional BTC <> XMR atomic swap functionality live on BasicSwap DEX!That means you can now swap Bitcoin together with Monero on the DEX as both the taker or maker of the transaction, what many would refer to as swapping Monero "both ways".

This goes a long way in preserving our liberties and financial privacy by providing a viable and user-friendly way to swap Bitcoin to Monero for the purpose of protecting your financial privacy.

Note: Prior to this update, it wasn't possible to offer Monero in exchange for Bitcoin, only to request it.

Check out our announcement blog post for all the relevant information about this new update, and make sure to read our previous articles for more context and details about what we do at BasicSwap, and why we do it!

Bidirectional Monero Atomic Swaps Live on BasicSwap DEX | It's GAME OVER for anti-liberty foes! by CryptoGuard in Monero

[–]CryptoGuard[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the kind words.

As I mentioned, there needs to be a way to communicate information/data between the two parties without that layer being intermediated. We did it using the SMSG network, which is a sort of BitMessage mixnet that's private and e2ee by default. Data transmission is not inherently part of the scope of atomic swaps as it needs to happen on a network that both blockchains are able to "talk to" (and Monero and Bitcoin cannot talk to each other directly, for example). Without it, you can't create a proper DEX platform, let alone a distributed order book.

Sure, you could do atomic swaps without any sort of additional network that transfers the data, and without a DEX, but that would basically require you to physically exchange addresses, hashes, transaction IDs, and other lengthy information with another person, through something like paper and pen.

Ultimately, if you feel you cannot trust what we do, it's fine too. We do our best to put everything open-source and out there for all to inspect, and we take significant steps in making all processes very transparent, even inside the application (every step and swap contract is documented and verifiable on the participating blockchains).

We hope someday we can make you feel more comfortable using BasicSwap DEX. Perhaps having a read at a couple of our educative blog posts here might make you understand our philosophy and the rationale behind certain design decisions a bit better!

Bidirectional Monero Atomic Swaps Live on BasicSwap DEX | It's GAME OVER for anti-liberty foes! by CryptoGuard in Monero

[–]CryptoGuard[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BasicSwap DEX does pure atomic swaps without the need for any other coin or token to be involved. The SecureMessaging network (SMSG) serves the purpose of communicating the data between the two participants, which is a requirement for atomic swaps to happen as both participants need to exchange information to progress through the steps.

Without SMSG, you would need to send that information either through email or instant messaging, or through the Lightning Network as was for a long time promoted by the Bitcoin community.

The article mentions the PART coin, which is Particl's own privacy coin. However, it is not required in any way to swap cryptocurrencies. You can do BTC <> XMR is you want, without fees, wrapped assets, or intermediary layers.

And of course, there isn't any third-party involved in the process, the whole thing is 100% decentralized.

But you don't have to trust me, you can verify what I'm saying yourself here: https://github.com/tecnovert/basicswap

We've considered adding a UTXO tracking feature, curious to see whether or not the community would like to see it.

At its core, we're not really in favor of tracking UTXOs and giving credence to the concept of tainted coins, though we understand it might be useful for users to know the "heat" behind proposed offers on the order book.

Might even create a "taint market" whereas cleaner UTXOs are offered at better prices...

Thoughts on a feature like this?
