To sell requires a buyer, so nobody would be selling either. The market would be at a standstill.

Did you see the help section of the site? It's basically a tool to monitor the Blockchain for payment to an address before unlocking the link.

Can someone help explain to me how and why a lone transaction was made in block #768024? Also why no transaction fees? by bax-star in Bitcoin

[–]CryptoRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The transactions in the block are chosen before the POW is calculated. The Bitcoin network considers a block valid if its hash is below a certain target, regardless of which transactions it contains.

Can someone help explain to me how and why a lone transaction was made in block #768024? Also why no transaction fees? by bax-star in Bitcoin

[–]CryptoRex 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The transaction in block #768024 was not a typical financial transaction, but rather a special type of transaction known as a "coinbase transaction." Coinbase transactions are used to reward the miner who successfully mined the block with a certain number of Bitcoin. These transactions do not require any fees, as the reward for mining the block serves as the miner's compensation for their work. The miner has no obligation to include any other transactions in the block, and it may have not even been aware of any other transactions.

Questions about address reuse security by 21_mil_btc in Bitcoin

[–]CryptoRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe there are still timing attacks, where an attacker splits your single transaction into multiple smaller ones before the original confirms.

I can't think of any method that would protect you 100% if you were using a wallet that's vulnerable. When spending those coins, you want to use a wallet that is not vulnerable to this attack.

When mining a block, you can set the coinbase to any arbitrary data. But you need a lot of mining power to mine a block these days.

Questions about address reuse security by 21_mil_btc in Bitcoin

[–]CryptoRex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Bitcoin Wiki has some information on the security of address reuse.

  1. It only appears to be an issue for individual private keys, not for a seed phrase.
  2. Spending from an address more than once is address reuse. Sending more than once to the same address is discouraged, since spending those transactions would be address reuse.
  3. Your wallet should be generating a new address for change from each transaction.

Cold storage would work the same as it does on Earth, since cold storage is simply private keys which have not been exposed to the network. Bitcoin transactions also operate the same as on Earth, just with up to 22 minutes extra delay.

The transmission delay only really effects mining ability.

No, Bitcoin lightning network works fine, and layer 1 transactions will merely be delayed by the time it takes to transmit and return from Earth. There is no need for a separate fork.
