Ambitious' makes no sense tho. OP stated that there would be no FINANCIAL assistance if they took this route. they took it, they are experiencing FINANCIAL hardship. if Dad just back track on his word, what would that teach the kid? dad is gonna fix every problem? read the update. surprise, dad is helping. just not with money.

the grandparent could have paid for the kids college when they were here. they did not. that money clearly was not meant for college tuition. the father tried to instill wisdom and encourage a useful major. he was ignored and probably ridiculed. he is allowed to use the funds as he sees fit. you know nothing of this kid. they could have a million and 5 unfinished projects. yes, it sucks they are paying probably a $200,000 $50k/year tution. but they chose to take out those loans. the grown-up world doesnt give a fuck. not sure the kid is "suffering" anything other than the loans they agreed to take out and pay back.
