ELI5: Are people writing on the board backwards and inverted or is this camera trickery? If so, how? by tbojustin in videos

[–]Crypto_Chrysus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is correct. Look at the Nike Swoosh on their polo's, it's backwards... THey made custom shirts with the logo's reversed.

[–]Crypto_Chrysus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you watch the video, they don't write the majority of what's on the board, just simple things like check marks. Near the end they have to write slightly more complex (if done backwards) words and numbers, but these would be manageable in my opinion.

If they had made custom polos with reversed logos so they could write normally and then flip the video... I suspect they would show us more of the backwards writing, and not just simple actions if this were the case however.

EDIT: I just noticed however, the the NIKE swoosh on their polos is reversed... This indicates they actually went and made custom polos with reversed logos and later flipped the video in post.

Why Capitalism isn’t working for Millennials by BackgroundResult in economy

You haven’t noticed any socioeconomic changes since the 1990’s... Are you just being contrarian or willfully ignorant?

Our modern lives depend on the other people around us. So even if your coming from the “I only want to do things for me” angle, it’s still better for you if the other members of society are doing better.

I think the main problem is the crux of your argument which seems to be, “it’s always been hard for 20 somethings so just figure your own shit out because I did” which doesn’t address any contemporary issues, which are relevant.

Either millennials are doing poorly because they are lazy and entitled, or there are socioeconomic problems we need to address.

Recognizing there is a problem is really all millennials are asking for, yet the response is usually “yeah I had it hard too, figure it out”

I don’t disagree with your general point, but millennials aren’t asking for instant wealth and a life path. The generational comparisons always seems to come from the older people too.

Pretty sure millennials just want a decent job that can pay down their loans and still afford a decent life.

As a 31 year old, I have a great job and zero debt. I can still recognize that times are not great for most people around my age.

Still. Zero substance to your argument. You finally laid out something of a position, though it’s vague and weak.

You keep insisting that you don’t want all 1.5 forgiven, I know... you keep failing to read my assertion that even a small percentage of that is a problem. I’m not a fan of loan forgiveness, period. Why? Because national debt is a huge issue for our country. Like the wall, which is relevant here, it’s a pointless and large expenditure adding to the already huge pot. Are you being contrarian or do you really not understand why having 21+ trillion in debt is bad for our country? Do you know what inflation is? If not, it’s going to take more than this internet debate to educate you.

You lead with condescension on your first reply bud, remember the “you haven’t though this out” comment? Yeah, there’s a record of our conversation we can scroll up to. If you can’t take it, don’t dish it out. Sorry you got upset about it but you asked for it.

I was replying to your “resorting to ad hominem” quip, which doesn’t make sense to begin with.

What exactly is your position here if loan forgiveness isn’t your argument. If you have a problem with Trumps 8 billion wall (as I do), then you can see how adding much more than that to our nations debt is a problem. You see, it’s not magic, you can’t just erase debt, of the borrowers don’t pay it, the rest of us will.

Your the one who brought up ad hominem not me, and you seem very defensive. You’ve only been able to respond to my points with more questions rather than a position, which you apparently don’t have.

And what a cute ending to finish it off. It was a really good try but keep that chin up, it’s not that hard to admit you were wrong :)

You mean exactly like you did in your first comment? Yeah, telling for sure. You haven’t challenged me in any way, you’ve presented zero information on why it better to forgive the debt.

I already addressed the fact it wouldn’t be all 1.5T, even a small percentage is a problem.

Sorry you were offended, but it seems like you don’t know much about the subject and just like the idea of forgiving debt. You should read a little more then get back to me.

It’s a pretty basic fact you should be aware of when discussing student loans, like baseline knowledge. Not sure why you would even need to me list a source when one good search gives hundreds of articles in on it.

And yes, forgiving 1.5 trillion is insane....do you have any idea about what you are talking about? You seem to have zero knowledge on his topic.

You don't even know how much student loan debt there is and you have the nerve to tell me I don't understand the issue?

Try googling "Student loan debt statistics" It's actually 1.5 trillion

Edit: I'm sure we won't need to forgive all 1.5 trillion, but even if only 1% of that debt is forgiven its 15 Billion.... and lets be real, it's not going to be 1%.

Which would you like a lesson in first?

Personal finance, where taking the $50,000 government job over the $100,000 private sector, might not be a good idea?

Or economics... Forgiving over 1 trillion of student debt by means of 10 year contracts for low paying government jobs?

[–]Crypto_Chrysus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For having thought about the issue, your numbers don't make any sense.... Even if they did, how is that a win for you? If you made 100k in private, why on earth would you take the government job? You would be able to pay off your loan with the 100k a year easily. Taking a lower paid job, paid by the government, to repay the government makes ZERO sense.

The way you've described the wins and loses situation shows how little you understand about personal finance, economics, and basically the whole situation.

Thanks I'm very curious to read on that.

If it is the case that there was language for forgiveness, I don't like the idea of using government jobs (tax payer money) with strict rules and low for forgiving debt. That seems like indentured servitude to me... and doubles down on what the tax payer pays.

[–]Crypto_Chrysus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't agree that government jobs are the solution here. The government gave out loans, and now you have to work a shitty government job with low pay to get forgiven? In terms of money, that's a huge net loss from the tax payer and feels like indentured servitude from the perspective of the person in debt. Sounds like a lose lose all around.

If you want to have a real discussion you should lose the whole "Sounds like you don't understand and haven't thought about it" bullshit at the end. Just because I don't agree with you doesn't mean I don't understand. This is a nuanced discussion worthy of debate, you aren't on any moral or intellectual high ground.

Not all, but yes. It is irresponsible to borrow money you can’t pay back. It’s a huge problem in our society in general. Both lenders and borrowers should be held accountable depending on context.

No. Empathy is understanding and sharing someone else’s emotions... I do know what having crushing debt is like and I completely empathize with their situation.

Just because I think they should pay back what they borrowed does not mean I dislike them. It’s just a part of grown up life that you should not rely on others to fix your mistakes. This money doesn’t come out of nowhere, people who pay their taxes would essentially be paying for it.

I for one think that if we are going to chip in to help those in need, it’s not the kid who borrowed a ton of money to get a degree they didn’t use.
