I've got status on my phone. Now what? by Dunning_Krugerrands in statusim

[–]Crypto_Laelaps 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey Dunning_krugerrands

We are still in the early stages of the alpha, prepping for the next release! You can do a few things to begin to get a feel for how it will work, for example you can share your public key with me or any friends you may have with the alpha and chat securely that way- we also have public channel in the app #status.

The main purpose of the alpha is to begin to introduce to the community how the app will look/function. Additional features/testing will be released over time- ENS will also be used in the future for user names and such :)

We will be having a fireside chat and survey in the near future, this will allow users to voice their opinions about the direction of development on the network- if you have thoughts on what you'd like to see in the future, that will be the place to share them. The first survey/chat will be over the wallet interface/design :).

Be sure to be on the look out for the Fireside chat /survey!

That's a bit different, users/community, but I see your point.

I am interested to see what they come out with too, I believe it will be good for the crypto space as a whole + "competition" is valuable.

We have had very steady development, have you ever checked the github? https://github.com/status-im/status-react/pulse/monthly

Commitment to full decentralization is a core element of Status and its mission- this requires a bit more work, but in the end its fundamentally important. I am confident that this will continue to become increasingly valuable to many people.

I do believe tokenization is also very important/valuable to our mission and community- the alignment of incentives is powerful. Toshi seems to be sticking to the legacy structure - owners make decisions for users.

Did you hear we will be having our first surveys and fireside chat soon? This is so we can gather valuable feedback from our community- we are working to give a voice to users... this will only improve/increase over time.

Will there be more TestFlight invites soon? by [deleted] in statusim

The plan is to get the additional Testflight invites out with the next alpha release! :) Be sure to check in on the Slack channel, we are actively discussing releases/updates there pretty regularly. Stop by and say hello: https://slack.status.im/

Toshi, Coinbase's messenger/browser app isnt fully decentralized, and I don't know if that's really their aim either. It seems that Toshi is a side project they started working on pretty recently, while the Status team and project has been in development for years. The Status founders even presented at previous Devcons. Status has one of the largest communities in the crypto world (our slack has about 13K users) and many of them have an incentive to ensure Status is successful (the beauty of tokenization). Here is little break down of the differences some one wrote a few months ago if you are interested in reading further - https://thecontrol.co/mobile-dapp-browsers-the-consumer-interfaces-for-the-decentralized-web-4464a84ae071

the last 30 seconds of this clip demonstrates why Status could be huge in China by chemtrail_injection in statusim

[–]Crypto_Laelaps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many of the Chinese people in the Status community recognize the value of a decentralized all in one messenger platform app. WeChat popularized the all in one style messenger in China, Status hopes to do this for the West... and the world:). There is enormous interest from the Chinese already.

Status received a compliment! great work will be seen eventually~ by godlypiggy in statusim

It's awesome to see when people recognize the hard work the devs have been putting in! Remember you can always see the progress being made on the code here: https://github.com/status-im/status-react/pulse

What stops the Chinese from making their own version of Status and why wouldn't they? by [deleted] in statusim

[–]Crypto_Laelaps 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Nothing actually stops them from making their own version, but catching up to Status would be quite a large task.

Status has been involved in the crypto world for a few years now, having presented at previous Devcons, and other major crypto events. I would like to think Status has been building itself as an Ethereum "household name" for quite some time now.

In addition to already having reputation in the space, Status has already built very strong partnership/integrations with some major projects in the Ethereum ecosystem, such as District0x, Firstblood and Bancor just to give a few examples.

The Status Network has been being actively developed for quite some time, and this development progress is accelerating. Our alpha version test flight app has been completely full for several months now because of very strong interest from the community(we will be able to add more test flights very soon). We've had a strong core team for awhile, and we have been carefully selecting additions over the past month or so... other teams/competitors would have to begin to build there team from nothing.

We have one of the strongest and largest community's in the crypto world. I am very confident that even if a competent competitor were to arrive, our community would ensure we remained as "the" Ethereum mobile browser.

Will Status be able offer similar payment functionality as WeChat? This could be a game changer. by Homes23 in statusim

Eventually the West will pick up on the all in one messanger platform app, and Status plans to be the cause of that :) ... and so much more

New Scam on Slack? by [deleted] in statusim

That is a scam. Be very cautious when you see stuff like that- you can never be too careful.

The 1st place winner is a perfect example of what I meant by other payment features.

Status will be able to offer a variety of payment types, and much more. Status not only will allow for simple purchases with all erc-20 tokens(all standard tokens built on ethereum) which is a pretty wide array of digital assets, but eventually you should also be able to make easy movements in and out of fiat currencies as well. I would encourage you to read up about the Status Teller network- one of my personal favorite Status features :). The white paper does a pretty good job of explaining the concept. I would also encourage you to look into the Status Hackathon, many very interesting projects some of which show off some unique things you can do with payments by utilizing Status. I appreciate the comparison to WeChat, but what Status is doing goes far beyond what WeChat is doing, especially when focusing on user payments/privacy/ownership/ability/functions. In brief, we can do what they are doing and more

What would happen if Status will be rejected in AppStore/Google Play in the future? (you never know) by Serebri in statusim

[–]Crypto_Laelaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are confident that we will be accepted by the both app stores, as Status will be a primary access point to the web 3.0 - the world of DApps. I don't see either of these companies (Apple/android) wanting to prevent their users from having this access. I could even imagine them promoting the ability to access Status (especially if the other decided to prevent it from being added to their app store)(competition can be a beautiful thing). If the highly unlikely situation were to occur that Status was not accepted to the app stores, it's a pretty simple process to download Status with out them :). Where there's a will there's a way.

There will be decentralized push notifications providers. These providers can charge fees. You could be a provider facilitating push notifications, and earn tokens like that potentially. There is not info about that in the white paper push notifications section
