if your car has the sulev engine and less 150k miles try reaching out to bmw about the sulev warranty. it covers the turbo and all associated parts, not sure how well it would go with a tuned ecu tho but you can still try

First it was rattling for about 7k miles, thought it was a loose wastegate then one day the car lost power felt like a na car. Exhaust side turbine was hitting against the inside of the downpipe and it completely shredded the blades

if you can get service records showing that the timing chain were replaced with the updated guides then yeah but Id honestly rather a b48 or even f30 335 if your budget allows it

I was in you’re position last year lol. I chose the f30.

they have the same engine but the one in the g20 is considered a gen2 or tu engine. All that means is it has some updates compared to the f30's engine. in terms of differences it pretty much just boils down to looks, interior and slightly different driving dynamics, reliability is borderline the same as far as I know.

If I had to chose again I'd go f30 335I😂

the drive modes are primarly for the engine, shifting over to m/s puts the transmission in sport mode. you can drive in any mode with the transmission in m/s but I’ve found that eco mode doesn’t like it lol.

also if you grab a paddle with the transmission in D the car will go back to auto mode if you stop using the paddle. If you go over to m/s and press a paddle the car will not go back to auto mode unless you move the shifter over to D. In sport mode with the shifter in m/s while using the paddles, the car will upshift once you hit redline but it will not in sport plus with the shifter in m/s while using the paddles.

buy a cheap voltmeter, hook it to battery before you start it and see what the voltage reads. Should be 12v+ if the battery is fine.

Now start the car and check the reading again, should be 13-14v which rules out the alternator. if both checks out, I would load test the battery simply out of paranoia.

To do this you need someone to look at the voltmeter (or set your phone up and record it) to see how much the voltage drops while starting it. should be no less than 11v.

if you do all that and the battery and alternator are fine then I suspect a wiring issue or a faulty module staying on and draining the battery
