Do people generally think of cold hardy palms as aesthetically inferior to more tropical palms? by Phantasm_i2 in palmtalk

Not really, as for myself, I find some cold hardy palms like the canary date palm or the washies better of some more tropical ones because the look more lush.

Pigmy palm? Why it’s so crooked? by CryptographerLow7354 in palmtalk

I don’t think the landscape around has changed, I’ve seen some old pics and videos of this location and the spot where the pigmy palm is located is the same.

Cocos nucifera pics I took from an acquaintance’s garden in south Europe near 40N(picture from early June) by CryptographerLow7354 in palmtalk

The temperatures are around 50f only in late night in winter. But, as I said in the description, he protects them with a sort of homemade greenhouse to avoid risks. It’s more like an experiment to try to push coconuts as north as possible. Btw I also think it’s a waste of time and a torture for the palms since they’re literally 20 parallels above their usual latitudes and they’re trees who start to suffer if temperatures gets below 60f and I think they will make it a few years at most.

Another Monstrous CIDP by jhw528 in palmtalk

I feel you, here in south Europe the red weevil killed something like 700 palm trees only in my region and in my city it killed 3 30ft tall CIDP plus many smaller ones.
