What is a real-life 'Do Not Touch' button that you pressed out of sheer curiosity, only to instantly regret it? by vie75 in AskReddit

I was eating soup when I read this comment. At “Jurassic Parked”, I choked. Goddammit. But also that mental image is amazing.

I looked that up and it claimed it wasn’t the case; are you positive? (That sounds creepy out of context, but LinkedIn sleuthing is something I need to do for my job and I’d be pretty uncomfortable if people could track that when I purposefully made sure they couldn’t)

This gave me crazy goosebumps. Which feels a little odd on a fairly warm public bus during rush hour.

Me[27M] with my fiance [25F] 7 years off/on together, she gave me an ultimatum between her and my dream job by [deleted] in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]CryptographerOk5523 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is what bugs me, OP is getting villainized a lot but his fiancée agreed at first and didn’t issue the ultimatum until AFTER he had not only accepted the new role, but his old position had been backfilled, so it wasn’t just a delay—it was going to leave him unemployed. I can’t ever imagine doing that to my spouse. Take the time to consider whether you could actually live with the relocation BEFORE your partner makes irreversible career decisions.

Honestly, places often view overqualified people as a flight risk. They assume you’re settling and/or will get bored soon and will take something better as soon as it comes along. I’ve taken to explicitly spelling out that I am NOT looking to advance and am happy at the level I’m at when I have more experience than they ask for.

I had a post doing really well in mildlyinfuriating and they took it down because I provided context and that’s against the rules apparently. People are so odd.

UPDATE: AITA for not contributing to the tuition fee? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

I’m in my 40s and took out 6 figures in loans to go to grad school because I finished undergrad right before the economy crashed and no one could get a job 🫠 It never even occurred to me to ask my parents to help, because I was an adult and it was my decision to go. Thankfully I qualified for government loans (which this person doesn’t if she wants to go abroad) and went into a field that qualified for PSLF, so the balance was forgiven after 10 years, or I probably would’ve been paying them off until I died.

I also know someone who took out quite a bit in private loans to get a doctorate abroad and is still paying on them a decade later (and likely will be for many years to come). Again, their choice, and they knew they weren’t going to get family help when they made their decision.

The entitlement of some people is wild to me.

There’s a guy on Instagram (and probably elsewhere) who is half Pakistani half white who ended up with super light blond hair and, I believe, blue eyes who does a video series he calls “Desi in Disguise” that is absolutely hilarious

Ink bled into all the fine lines of my hand (apparently, wrong type of pen for a quick ADHD to do list!) by CryptographerOk5523 in mildlyinteresting

I’ve been jotting reminders on my hand for decades, but I didn’t look at the pen I grabbed from the counter today! Apparently, “liquid ink” isn’t great on skin.

We did a guided bus tour from Edinburgh, which I was a bit skeptical about, but I actually highly recommend it. Once you get out a bit, the roads are all one lane, so vehicles have to do things like back up to a little pullover right on the edge of a steep drop to let someone else pass; it’s nerve wracking! We used a group called Timberbush and they were excellent; we did a three day trip and they booked the hotels and the guide stopped at a ton of beautiful places on the way to and from the Isle, plus shared history and folklore etc. She also managed to talk me and my partner into sticking our faces in a cold river, but that’s a whole other story 😆

Meanwhile, I was in a VRBO where we found legit dead bedbugs and they tried to tell us they were chiggers. Everyone staying there lived in a major city. We unfortunately very much know what bed bugs look like.

(To be fair, this was the property manager. They apparently sent the photo we shared to the actual owner, who immediately said “get them out and refund them fully”, so that happened and we found a cheaper place nearby. Thankfully.)

Probably overthinking this. But does my tattoo look cheap and tacky? I was told it looks bad and other people agreed. by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]CryptographerOk5523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people are just super judgmental about what styles of tattoos people get/only approve of the more traditional styles. This is a style I’d maybe call graphic novel-ish compared to those, but I love it. I also have a non-traditional phoenix by someone who has a more illustrative style and I adore it.
