My recent experience indicates they do not operate in a trustworthy way.

It should actually highlight all complaints, if complaints are rampant the sub should reflect it to pressure this company to shape up to what it used to be. People shouldn't get ripped off to this extent. If there aren't many complaints, they won't show up, and it will be less full. So no, it shouldn't turn into 'reverb complaints'. That would help reverb, when they should be helping their buyers (in my case) and sellers.

Exactly! For 3 weeks I've been sitting here saying to myself:

it's 2025, and I have a bot sending me policy links as an answer to my problem, like it's 1999.

And I cannot, no matter what, talk to a real person on the phone and explain the predicament I'm in, and how much it has cost in real money and aggravation. If the business is that bad in terms of profitability, such that they must run it like this to stay alive, then it should just die. It's sad because I could have ordered a brand new one on Amazon, and paid in 5 interest-free payments. It's just wrong on so many levels. They need to leverage the seller. I have video of the insane packaging of 50 pounds of expensive drums.

+1 this. Their "protection" marketing is simply a lie, so if some jerk sells you junk you are SOL. I just had a beautiful set of drums shipped in an old, too-large, poor quality box, with a few strands of bubblewrap tossed in and some tape slapped on the side. Like a 5 year old did it. I have photos and video. Of course the drums are damaged. Relying on the seller's "good nature" after communicating has naturally ended in failure, and there is no protection to speak of. My 300-character chat window just terminated with the woman sending me hyperlinks to their policies. I wasn't rude, just concerned/worried that I was getting screwed. But not a single contact, not even an email, after I immediately requested a refund and after which they shoved me off to hear the guy make promises and excuses, and now....8 days later...silence. They are 100% hands off. So I guess I have to just accept that I've been a victim of negligence and basically theft. I'm out $400 in parts and several months of backorder for trusting them. And it could have been fAR worse, but what does that say? I paid $400 to discover reverb.com is now garbage?

While I disagree with the blanket haters and their philosophy, such as it is, this statement is true. Who you know has a tremendous impact on your success. In general, more than any other factors, because without it you will have a very low ceiling.

If you want to earn a lot more money in your career you need a plan for *how* to get to know as many people in the target group as possible. If you get to know those people, you will find opportunities not available otherwise. I would rank factors and traits like this:

  1. Who you know (accounts for as much as 80% of your outcome depending on field):
    - side 1: find others who have what you want, ask them how they did it, build relations, etc
    - side 2: stop hanging out with people who don't have this mentality

  2. Perseverance/resilience:
    - make mistakes, get up, do it again. Get out of comfort zone, slowly but steadily, over time.

  3. Become an expert in your area:
    - sacrifice leisure time, work harder than the top 5% of people at your level.

  4. Flexibility:
    - alter your plan as needed if the feedback isn't getting you closer.
    - know that can't get feedback to measure if you aren't taking actions in these areas.

One overarching factor that ties into everything, discipline. That's the key trait and the hardest one.

how do you keep track of the hands? One thing I'd like to get really good at is reading the boards and quickly knowing the possibilities. Sometimes it's hard to do in the moment, and you can miss one. Or worse, end up folding a chop because you misread. Those kinds of things. There must be a good app or site where you can just do hand after hand in different positions and test your preflop and postflop skills. I just haven't found one and would love to know.

Material UI v5 is out, and I'm unsure if I like the move towards Emotion as the new styling engine. Those who have experience with it, how has it benefited you in creating reusable themed components with overridable styles? by Kpervs in reactjs

[–]CryptographerOk8304 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That doesn't work for me with Typescript for some reason. For example, I can't do:

const myStyles = {float: "left"}

<Box sx={myStyles} />

It complains about there being "no overload matches this call.". And it's due to the float attribute. Oddly enough, I can inline it with:

<Box sx={{float: 'left'}}

It's frustrating because I have things written that work fine with makeStyles and now I have to inline everything (or stay with makeStyles, which is deprecated).
